choosing a career
Could anyone point me in the right direction? At the moment I am studying, thinking about psychology or maybe languages! (Gemini midheaven anyone?) I got hooked on astrology a few years back but tried to dive in at the deep end (horary) without going through the basics properly. I am a parent so have caring duties at present. I did best at languages at school but like helping people and making them laugh. Have had some hard times and have come through the other end in one piece. Pof is on Mercury which is good for astrology? (Robert Hand - I think) No planets in house 6 or 10 and Uranus in the 2nd. Travel out of the question due to caring duties.

Re: choosing a career
A good way to get started in career-finding astrology is:
1.) Get a basic feel for the chart as a whole, notably the person's sun, moon, and rising sign. You have a big stellium in the 4th house of "home" which can be anything from someone's apartment to real estate or even "homeland."
2.) Look for the planetary ruler of the sign on the MC (career house cusp), followed by the rulers of the signs on the 2nd (money house) and 6th (work and service) house cusps. We see both Mercury and Venus in your 4th house, with Uranus in the 2nd.
So having a home-based business would seem viable for you, especially in light of your current parenting responsibilities. With a sextile to Uranus in the 2nd, possibly one that is based on the Internet.
I don't know what is your prior level of education and job experience, but Jupiter and Sagittarius love to teach. If you have sufficient education, perhaps you could offer distance education instruction through one of the many colleges and universities that offer programs. If not, perhaps some kind of tutoring in your home, or home-based schooling.
I think you might also be good at real estate sales or brokering, but probably not in today's market.

Re: choosing a career
Thank you Waybread. Thanks for taking the time to have a look. I am currently studying at the OU. I had thought I could maybe train to be a tutor, as that is based from the home but it would take a long time to qualify. I am just in year 1, it could take another five years. Then again being an eternal student looks good to me (whenever I get round to organising myself properly). I would like to learn as much as I can, I especially loved languages at school and art and thought about children's books but not sure I'd get anywhere. I also thought about astrology. The thing is I don't focus on one thing, I jump from one thing to the next and there aren't enough hours in the day to do all I have to do or want to do. Need a good schedule to stick to!

Re: choosing a career
An useful information: as I read at another post, if you have an ``empty`` hose, just look for the ruler, in which house is it and for the aspects of the planet that rules the house you want to find out more about.
Your chart is somehow ``opposite`` of mine. I have Mercury, Sun, Jupiter in conj. with MC but in 10th. My Mercury is also retro, but it was not an boundary at all for me. I got myself well educated, have talent for foreign languages, never had any learning disabilities, work as a translator.
Good luck with your studies.

Re: choosing a career
Thank you Natasa812. I read somewhere on a website, and now I can't find it....that mercury retrograde was supposed to signify our refusal to be sent back here and that we are forced to deal with issues until it moves forward by progression and then we accept we are here and carry on. What can I say? I fumble about in the dark still!

I have mercury retrograde and it can lead to introspection and thinking things through very deeply and being rather analytical.Look to when it goes direct, mine was age 19 and definately came out of my shell at that time. Will PM you other bits

Re: choosing a career
Dear astrologer 50, if you have any link about this or a suggestion on how to look at progressions or whatever is necessary, please post it, since I don`t know whan my Mercury turned direct. I also had dificult year (last year) and than I saw my natal Pluto was in exact conj. with progressed Pluto and progressed was retro. Where can I find more information about this.
P.S.
to your previous post, I have my Pluto in 7th in trine with Saturn, so I do agree about following the rules.

Go to the year you were born, month and day. Then look and count day for year of your life and SEE when mercury goes direct.
When looking at progressions, the outer planets are not that important unless in conjunction with personal planets ie; sun-mars. these are the most important to look at
www.astro.com can do multiple charts, with progressed Solar arc and transits for study and research...

Re: choosing a career
sagvirgo, some people believe in "deep" karmic astrology, and some don't. I am of the latter persuasion.
I also have Mercury retrograde. It tends to confer a quality of one's mind turning inward, reviewing disparate bits of evidence until you find the key that fits. Your mind may also go off in tangents (as you've described, above) such that it can be hard to pursue a single "tunnel-vision" line of thought.
No problem.
Mercury retrograde will always be your natal imprint, but progressions show how you are evolving and adding to your repertory. As others have noted, many people do feel different when a natal retrograde planet goes direct by progression.
