combustion
My sun is in the fourth house in Sag where it conjuncts Jupiter. This is combustion isn't it? Jupiter is my only exalted planet! When looking to see how this originated do I need to then look at the house the sun rules which is the 12th and contains the moon, but in Virgo. There is a square with the moon in the 12th and sun in the fourth. Would this suggest parents in childhood? (Always blame it on the parents!!!)

Re: combustion
it would be most helpful for people to ‘post’ their charts (rather than data), for others to comment on as we are all visual. For help on how to do this, go here http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12126

Re: combustion
Combustion to traditional astrologers means that a planet is within 8.5 degrees of the sun. They think it weakens the planet, but many modern astrologers disagree. Since a key word for the sun is your "identity", I wonder whether you identify strongly with the meaning of Jupiter in your chart. This might be a general feeling of expansiveness, or it might relate to one of Jupiter's themes such as philosophy, theology, or travel.
Some modern psychological astrologers view 12th house planets as indicating the mother's difficulties during and right after childbirth. You might ask your mother, if you can. I don't think this thesis always works, though, as my daughter has sun/mercury in the 12th, and her birth and neonatal period went just fine. A sun square to the moon can indicate that you experience difficulties with your mother, or perhaps feel that your parents didn't get along.

I guess that makes me a psychological astrologer, then.....
I find that planets close to the ascendant - in 12th for before birth, and in the 1st for after the birth - often give some insight into the events in the mother's life whilst the child is in utero, and sometimes even the changing condition of the foetus, and then the events soon after birth. Planets like Jupiter or the sun or mercury describe ease, whilst Uranus close to the ascendant generally describe an unusual or sudden event before or after birth. Chiron - and Saturn, of course - close to the ascendant can describe a difficult, and often protracted, and sometimes dangerous birth.

I agree with this. The `sensitivity' to the conflict - usually hidden/suppressed - between the parents can be acted out unconsciously, perhaps even in quite disruptive behaviour.
A decade or so ago psychologists were on to this (not the Sun squ Moon, but the disruptive behaviour thing) and knew to look at the parental r/ship for the source of a child's behaviour `problems'. Trouble is that the parents of a child with sun squ moon would probably be suppressing their own feelings so much they'd not be aware of them

Re: combustion
sun square moon usually suggests divied parents. Moon opp Mars = bossy mother. Saturn opposite Neptune = fear of unknown, possibly father crushed some of your dreams and aspirations in childhood
In Equal house then your Uranus is in late first conj 2nd house cusp. Mars square sun and jupiter= wilfulness and confidence, especially to do with one to one relationships and home/family matters..

Re: combustion
Thanks! This chart based on astrodients allowances. If I go by March and McEvers, allowances for conjunctions, squares, oppositions, trines 7 then inconjuncts and sextiles allow 5 then I'll lose the moon oppose mars?! (Still have a bossy mum though!)

I wouldn't worry too strongly about the combust. I find that, if an exalted planet is combust, the combustion is softened somewhat. You might occasionally have problems with coming off (or being?) a little too sure of yourself -- especially during a fight! Also, you might have a lot of energy to [U]do[U] -- always be active -- which could drive other people insane. Otherwise you get all the benefits of a sun/jupiter connection.

Re: combustion
I like my sun/mercury (under 2 degree) combustion. I am very expressive and have, with maturity learnt not to suffer from foot in mouth disease so much now.
I wouldn't worry about it

I have mercury combust, also. I don't notice it much either, except at the occasional party when I've said too much. But, I've also learned to shut up once in a while.
