Leon A Member Here Needs Help

Leon is one of the members here, are any of you familiar with him? He is what I call young in Astrology, but very eager to learn. He is going through some issues concerning his rising sign. The time of birth is not on his BC so he can no cast a Natal chart, because he has no time. I am posting this thread for him because he is not aware of Horary Astrology. Even after I tried to explain to him what Horary Astrology is and how it can perhaps help his situation, he was just no getting it. So, I felt kind of bad for him, not knowing what your rising sign can make one who is curious about Astrology feel like an Orphan. I offered to do the chart for him as long as he wrote down the time he asked the question, so here is the chart and the question from the querent is "What is my rising sign?"

I am no where near knowing how to interpret this chart but the querent is usually on the first house, so is it possible that his rising sign is Virgo?

Well I'm not sure how to judge a chart like this. If we judge it in the same manner as, "what is the sex of my child", or "what profession is best for me?" .. It could go by what signs the significators are in, or it could possibly be the ascending sign itself. When I asked this once, Scorpio rose, which is before I knew I was actually a Scorpio.

The ascendant and midheaven (important 'appearance' signs) are in an earth sign. The ascendant ruler itself is in an earth sign as well. The moon is in a masculine sign, but none of the earth signs are masculine. It's in a mutable sign though, and Virgo is mutable. So Virgo might be it, you kinda look like one to me, too! You also definitely look like a mercury ruled ascendant!

Try reading a virgo rising description and see if it fits, at elbertwade.com

I'm under the impression that horary has difficulties answering anything that would fall within the "spirituality and mystery" category. :S

From what I hear, Horary is older than any Astrology including natal Astrology. I am thinking that if horary could answer the question as to what somones rising sign is, there would be no need to Natal charts of a persons birth.

You have been thinking all this time that your rising sign is Leo, Virgo is right next to Leo. You don't look like a Leo rising at all. You could pass for a Virgo rising.

so I'll be an "honorary" Virgo rising to entertain you AZZes. I was considered a "Cancer rising" on my last asstrology forum. I would think that all these asstrology fans would atleast not be so faulty when it comes to determining rising signs through physical appearance. One party thinks I'm a Cancer rising while another Virgo rising. Seriously WTF?

Leo, what is so bad about your being a Virgo rising? I won't say what your sun sign is but if people get out of your way when you come down the street it is because of your sun sign. For that sun sign people do move out of the way as well.

By the way, post that other picture of yours...

I know virgo risings and they don't have the posture of that virgo in the nutty picture you showed us all. Another thing you have to keep in mind is this, most books written in America and Europe on Astrology are written by Europeans/Caucasions. They don't take other cultures into consideration when they describe the looks, stature, and physical characteristics of all 12 signs. To a large degree, a lot of those books are bias. You have to take a lot of what you read in thsoe astrology books with a grain of salt when it comes to general physical characterisitics of a sign.

My two cents: I think you have an earth rising sign. Capricorn would be my choice, because I am cappie rising and our facial features are similar, clothing style the same, etc. Virgo is a strong possibility too. I have mercury on the ascendant, ruler of virgo, so I guess my appearance is a blend of Virgo and Capricorn.

Try reading some Capricorn rising descriptions and see if it fits. Cappie rising makes one very slim, skinny, sharp bone structure, sometimes a bad skin also, sensitive skin.....

All of those are true for me.

The reason it is hard to tell someone's rising sign is that when planets aspect the asc it modifies the look of the native. Have you ever picked a piece of lint off someone else's shirt? Sure sign that you're a Virgo or Virgo rising.

I'm a night baby. My sources in my family for my birth time either make me a Cancer rising or a Leo rising.

I have Four planets in Capricorn, One of them being a personal planet, Venus, so maybe this is why you think I look like a Capricorn?

I can fit into slim clothing, and I even look slim from a distance, but I'm definitely not skinny. When my body fat is low people think I lift weights, although I haven't touched weights in a year, and even when I did only casually.

My skin on my limbs still have some weird small tiny bumps.

Yes Leon! I have mars square my ascendant and I have a little scar just below my right eye as well. I think that this is a common characteristic of mars and ascendant affliction.

Ok, you have a load in capricorn, so I guess I saw that in you. I have three planets and rising sign in cappie, so I think I clicked immediately with your appearance.

A cancer rising would make it kinda easy to gain weight (and loose too, changing as the Moon, Cancer ruler), and to retain liquids in the body.

But from Lolaslayer said, it is very possible that you are a Leo rising.

I have a Leo asc.
15 degrees.
Sag. decante.

Cancer sun 29 degrees.
on the cusp of Leo.
Pisces decante.
Gemini dwad...I believe, almost think.

Leo moon, 23th degree.

This is in tropical.

In vedic I have cancer asc, 22nd degree, cancer sun, 4th degree.
Leo moon, degree 0.

Asc aspects in tropical, to leo asc are, mars, and Pluto sextile, 8 degree, 9 degree orb.
Saturn sextile, 1 degree orb.
Those planets are conj.

Moon is conj asc.
kind of wide, but whatever.....

Neptune trines moon, exact. So neptune trine asc but your looking at 9 degree orb for that trine.

With a leo asc that puts the ruler, the sun, in the 12th house on the cusp of leo in cancer.

I notice enough how cancer I am, somewhat, I can tell I shcare qualities of both, but, and this is in tropical as well, I also have venus in the first degree of cancer.

My chart is on another thread, I think you've seen it.

I was mimicking an old David Letterman picture I seen of him holding a basketball sticking out his toung at the camera during a high school picture. I thought it was funny.
I think I look like more like gravel face Micky Rourke instead. ha.

My height 6' 4" could be caused by a few different things, maybe Sag decante. BUt I've also seen short sag decantes. It's not from genetics entierly, I am the tallest in the family, the family that i know of.

I've read decante descriptions of signs that are not alwayas accurate as well, but they are sometimes accurate. It would be nice to fine tune things more, but it seems not everything fits in a nice virgo like box. The attempt is admirable though and usefull at times.

Reason I posted the pics is because, progressed, in tropical, I have an early Virgo asc. Mercury has progressed from the 12th to the first and into virgo.
I have a Jupiter mars conj. in Scorpio sextile asc from the third house.
Sun is in Leo, 12th house....
Venus in Leo, 11th H.

I havn't seen you chart.

Natally, the only thing I have in scorpio is Jupiter on the IC line, 3rd house, 1 degree off the angle.

I look at leo asc. every now and then, but I'm not an expert at spoting everyone by asc. Most often I notice the sun, sometimes the moon, especially in personality. I confuse that but minly in woman I notice the moon first. If I see red hair in the case of a Caucasian of any kind, I go to aries in mind first, because I've noticed it allot. It isn't so helpful when it comes to anyone not Caucasian and it isn't always accurate.

I have read that if you see more angular features, look to for cardinal sines.
Not all aries have red hair, sometimes it can just be a mars placement, maybe in the first house, but even taht is not always accurate, so I really don't know. It is strange sometimes to spot the red head kid in the family when there are no other red head kids, parents, or grandparents in the family, and notice a stellium in Aries, or a mars on the asc. I've done that before. Or even just an Aries sun.

For aries sun I always see the face as angular, many times a strait nose, and there is at times a forward head, or a direct look, what I mean by forward head is that they tend to look out and direct at whatever is across from then......I have seen similar looks in cancers, even if the flow is reversed.....signs 4 to the right of another seem to be more of a complete opposite in action then those that oppose one another.
The zodiac is strange to me in that way.
I even see Virgo as more of a complete opposite of action then Gemini, even if they traditionally share the same rulers.
Gemini stands outside a mutable explosion, a thought sign, deals with similarities in thought. Virgo looks in on an object from the outside rather then having that exploding action....they sort of focus all their attention in and on matter instead....then they differentiate, seeing all the small details, differences....I suppose if I drew a diagram for the two signs, and I have seen these elsewhere, it would look like this.

Smaller then how I thought the image would turn out....my bad.

Anyway, that is ow I see virgo, and the dispersal (mutable) signs.
The 4th over is more of an opposite action then the opposing sign.

Virgo tends to introvert into matter so is more realistic.
Gemini is more outside the action, and separated from the action, deals more with abstract thought...even though Virgo is abstract as well.
Pisces inflows from it's environment upon itself, the sensitivity, etc.
Sag. outflows into it's environment....from a central viewpoint...hence, the outflowing ego, or viewpoint. Fire moves forward at times without allot of data....not very practical, can be unaware of what is to come...adventure, etc. but they see what is right in front of them.

Sag has a tendency to see things how they are directly.
Pisceshas a tendency to see things all as one, or the same.
Gemini has a tendency to see the similarities between things.
Virgo sees differences, detail, the differences between things.

I'd like to work more with the flows of signs, and how they handle energy, then try placing planets in, in houses as well, and somehow get a better picture of what a persons natural tendencies seem to be.
I think allot of what ew observe about people is far more basic then what we like to think. Gemini with communication, well, if a persons natural tendency it to use a dispersal like that, then naturally, they are going to have to communicate well to be that way. I suppose I'm looking for more fundamental basics. It all seems very psychological.....almost more then physical...the physical manifestations may just come about by how a person lives their life.
Put mars in the asc, and I suppose the chances of them getting a cut on the face is more likely by how they go about their life. I don't think everyone is going to get a scar on their face. Events turn out as they will, and fire seems to go into the unknown with less fear....because it doesn't know...so there can be accidents and carelessness, but also what appears to be luck may not be and may have more to do with being in the right place at the right time...something Sagittarius is quite capable of at times.
not allot is planned, thought out, based upon "reality" etc. There can be luck. Not know.

I thought maybe a Leo asc....tropical.

i've never read anything covering astrology and appearance that has pleased me entirely. I always spot flaws, but sometimes I can surprise myself by getting at least the sun, the moon or the asc. Then after looking at a chart, a few things start to make sense.

I know that if you do not have the exact birth time you can use a sunrise chart and that give you really a lot and makes perfect sense. The other is through solar arcs and timing of events through planets arcs to the angles. There is a long article on that and a connection to a web cast on erecting a chart. Sunrise has worked for me working on someone elses chart and I think Theo works with them a lot.
