5th house Mars in Libra conjunct Neptune (8 degree orb)
Hi all!
Sorry, don't know how to post my chart.
Hoping for some observations.
Being an avid poker player, I am wondering if this is considered to be a generally bad placement for Mars (being in its detriment).
Both Mars and Neptune are trine the Sun, Jupiter and Venus from the 9th house.
Thanks
Mars @ 9 Libra in H5
Neptune @ 17 Libra in H5
Sun @ 7 Aquar. in H9
Jupiter @ 12 in Aq in H9
Venus @ 12 in Aq in H9
(also going through my 2nd Saturn return @18 virgo in 4th house.....really harsh......lol)

Well, I am not really sure if my Mars being in its detriment in the 5th house is generally bad or not, considering that there are some good trines to it, but that is why I am asking the question. All I could seem to find in my research showed that Mars in the 5th house inclines one to speculative ventures, but did not really go into detail on whether it would be fortunate.
Long range poker is a game of skill, short range there is a lot of luck involved. It does seem like I have been pretty unlucky the past few years, but I am also going through my 2nd Saturn return, and from what I have read, Saturn in the 4th house makes for an unlucky home situation.
Anyway, I enjoy the game, and feel that I could possibly go pro, but do not want to fool myself into thinking there is a chance if is not to be. Neptune conjunct Mars.
I had read some astrology books when I went through my 1st Saturn return, but in no way consider myself to be well versed in the study.
Thanks

Thank you for going back and giving your astro-thoughts. I think since you have been having challenges in using your Mars energy in speculative games, there is an indication that this would be an issue going forward. Libra (relationships) modifying Mars (being, also action) indicates you have a need to see how everything "relates" to everything else before taking any action. There is a need to "balance things out" before doing anything. Poker is a game that requires quick, decisive decision making and so it does not work well for people who need a lot of time to think about all the possibilities.
Guessing,
Tim

Re: 5th house Mars in Libra conjunct Neptune (8 degree orb)
Thanks for your reply.
Well, Poker is pretty much a percentages game, consistently making the correct decisions when the odds favor a particular situation, should make one a winner in the long run.
For example in Hold Em; KK will beat a random hand 82% of the time, and if one makes the correct decisions for each hand he is dealt, over the long run one should inevitably come out ahead.
Luck being the short term spoiler that it is, will often take those two Kings and have them lose to any one of thousands of possible hands, played by others that are making the wrong decisions.
So my problem does not seem to be decision related, but luck related, with incredible amounts of bad beats, or what we call variance.
I just wondered if it was Mars being in detriment, in Libra that might be the culprit, or perhaps the 2nd Saturn return that I am currently struggling with.
Overall, it is not really important. I am too conservative to put a lot of money into testing, but on the other hand I do find it interesting how the configurations of the planets affect our daily endeavors.

Re: 5th house Mars in Libra conjunct Neptune (8 degree orb)
My chart is very similar to yours with the planets in the same signs and houses. I have found these 5th house planetary placements to be lucky most of the time. The 5th, besides being the house of children and entertainments, is also the house of good fortune in general, and is useful in matters of games of chance and investments. This is the classical interpretation.
In your chart, Libra and Venus rule the 5th. Venus is with the lucky planet Jupiter in the same degree. This is very fortunate. Mars is helpful in the 5th and is with the descending node which in medieval astrology was considered fortunate. The modern planet Neptune is also fortunate in the 5th. Therefore, this is a fairly good gambler's chart. It is better than mine as I do not have that Jupiter/Venus conjunction in the same degree. In classical interpretation triplicity rulers were important. Each house has three of them each ruling different things. In your chart the third T. ruler is Jupiter and usually this will be very fortunate as it rules fortune itself.
However, in matters of chance, current transits must be taken into account. Since 19 Dec. 2007 Jupiter has been in its fall and is really useless. I have had no luck at all during this time. That Saturn return, also effecting me, may also extend its baleful influence in this. Saturn will soon go retrograde and come back and hit us both again twice, and we will not be rid of it until after August 2009. But the good news is that Jupiter is about to leave its fall, and a Jupiter return it approaching, and Jupiter is that ruler of good luck. It may be safe to play poker again when your transits show this return.

Thanks for your reply Culpeper, and I hope your Saturn return is not too awful.

This is very interesting, I was mostly blaming the difficult times on Saturn, but it seems I should study up on Jupiter some more.
Oh, and I am lucky that I have a really great kid!

Re: 5th house Mars in Libra conjunct Neptune (8 degree orb)
I would not count 8 degrees as a conjunction especially when the Sun and Moon are not involved. Neptune is out of orb for the trines also but perhaps you can count the Sun as it has more influence and leeway. You would need to look at what other in orb aspects are being made. Neptune in the 5th can mean losses as you are talking about gambling. I would suggest that addiction may be a problem. The 9th relates more to luck and opportunity whilst the 5th is the leisure time activities that can include speculation and gambling.

Jupiter exaggerates all it touches but mainly difficult times do belong to Saturn as the maturing process and Lord of Karma such as what we sow, we reap.
