A different approach to the Outer Planets, and other theories
I have heard much about how the outer planets (Uranus to Pluto) are the higher octave of Mercury, Venus & Mars. However I have taken a different approach to understanding the influence of these planets, which I thought I should share for the benefit of the community. The "Higher Octave" approach only paints half of the picture as I see it. Uranus may be the higher octave of Mercury, but that doesn't explain its tendencies to rebel and break with tradition. To explain the second part of each planet I see that instead of it being only a higher octave, each outer planet also has a mirroring or opposing theme to an inner planet as well in the opposite planetary order. To explain, the classical planets in order are the Luminaries, then Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Thus the outer planets mirror starting with Uranus being the anti-Saturn, Neptune being the anti-Jupiter and Pluto being the anti-Mars. Now what does this mean? Let me make a list to help explain:
Uranus
As a higher octave of Mercury it provides a route to Universal Knowledge.
As an Anti Saturn it breaks structures and laws from external sources, thus provoking a need of a new internal structure.
Good: With internal structure it brings Progress and Genius
Bad: Without internal structure it brings Chaos and Insanity
Neptune:
As a higher octave of Venus it provides a route to Universal Harmony.
As an Anti Jupiter it dissolves clarity and wisdom that comes from external sources, provoking a need of wisdom and clarity from within.
Good: With internal clarity it brings Spirituality and Compassion
Bad: Without internal clarity it brings Illusion, Lies and Deceit
Pluto:
As a higher octave of Mars it provides a means to become one with the Universal Will.
As an Anti Mars it prevents the externalization of self preservation and Action. Thus to survive one must act on what is within.
Good: With internal change and action it leads to transformation and Rebirth.
Bad: Without internal change it leads to Death and Destruction (both literal and figurative). In other words, Evolve or Die.
Thus as we can see from above, that Uranus needs the stabilizing effect of Saturn to help bring out its greatest strength. Neptune needs Jupiter's wisdom to prevent disillusionment, and Pluto needs Martian energy to change from within. It is no wonder therefore that these outer planets rule the signs formerly attributed to their mirror partners. Aquarius ruled by Uranus and Saturn allows for both influences. Similarly Pisces and Scorpio too are able to balance the outer planetary influences with the influences of their mirror counterparts.
For further evidence of this connection we can look at astronomy. We can see that Uranus and Neptune are gas giants, similar to Saturn and Jupiter. Uranus has rings and is less dense and less massive than Neptune, just as Saturn is less dense and less massive than Jupiter. Neptune also was found to have a Great Dark Spot when voyager passed by, just as Jupiter has a Great Red Spot. Other similarities exist, but I won't get into them here. Pluto is the a large rocky body (10 times the mass of Ceres) found in the Kuiper Belt (large in relation to other objects in the Kuiper Belt). Which makes it more likely to be a mirror of Mars, than of the Gas Giants.
This has led me to see these outer planets in a different light. Not only as a higher octave of an inner personal planet, but also by seeing it as an inverse of another inner planet it can accurately show how it affects us.

Re: A different approach to the Outer Planets, and other theories
If we are to extrapolate from what was said in my previous post, have tried to apply it to the Sun and Moon. Of course the only obvious higher octave of the Moon is the Sun, while the Anti-Sun can be said to be the Moon. This is a break in the pattern, so I'm not sure if it truly applies. However I think that it can be said of those that have a strong Leo influence is that their need of approval is very strong. However they need to realize for them to truly shine forth, they need internal approval of themselves rather than seeking it from others. While this can be said of anyone, I believe that it applies particularly to those who have strong Leo influence in their chart. This leads me to believe that Leo may perhaps be co-ruled by the Sun and Moon. Leo's are far more emotionally sensitive than they would like to let on. This sensitivity is not due to rulership by the sun, but rather the well hidden lunar influence. I'll have to do more research to confirm whether there is any truth to this hypothesis.
Sun: Higher Octave of the Moon: Higher Emotion
Moon: Inverse of the Sun: Thus Anti External Self (Need internal Self)

Re: A different approach to the Outer Planets, and other theories
If we extrapolate further, looking for the higher octave of Jupiter and Saturn, this means we are also looking for an anti-Venus and anti-Mercury. Perhaps Eris fits this role.
Eris: Co-rules Taurus with Venus?
As a higher octave of Jupiter it provides a route to Universal Wisdom.
As an Anti Venus it prevents the externalization of harmony. Thus one must have internal harmony to be successful?
Astronomically speaking Eris may fit the bill as a anti-Venus. It is larger, more massive, and has a greater albedo than Pluto, just as Venus is compared to mars. On the other hand its orbital characteristics are way off, so I am unsure. Venus has the least eccentric orbit of all the planets, while Eris's orbit isn't even close to being circular being far worse than Pluto. Perhaps this eccentric orbit shows its discordant nature, while Venus' harmonious nature is shown by its near circular orbit. Astrologically I have read various opinions on possible interpretations of Eris, many which mention civil liberties or racial equality. However I don't find these explanations very convincing, since it is far too specific and racial equality is a very modern idea. The idea of Racial equality has not existed over the course of most of human history, meaning that either Eris had little or no influence until its discovery (unlikely) or their interpretation is incorrect. From other outer planets we have discovered we can see that a planet need not be discovered for it to have an influence in charts. Eris's Name itself is a big plus to fitting the above pattern. Its discovery like the discovery of all the other outer planets took place when moon was in Scorpio and the discovered planet made a hard aspect to Saturn. It's discovery polarized the astronomical community and a choice was forced. There was discord and disharmony. This certainly seems to fit the bill as an anti-Venus. I see Eris more of a polarizing agent that forces one to choose sides. Rather than sitting on the sidelines one must choose a side and fight for it. Perhaps the "fight" part may be due to Eris being in Aries, but the effect of the need to choose is the same I think. From what I see of the past Pluto-Eris Conjunctions and Oppositions, there are often political movements that start during them. Empires or countries are founded, Factions declare independence, or Wars break out. It just so happens that one of the more recent polarizing choices is that of racial equality. Hopefully I'll be able to test this hypothesis later on by looking at Eris in the Natal Charts of the famous.

Re: A different approach to the Outer Planets, and other theories
With even further extrapolation we can speculate as to the nature of the final outer "planet".
???: Co-rules Virgo with Mercury??
As a higher octave of Saturn it provides a route to Universal Law
As an Anti Mercury it prevents the externalization of thoughts and communication, provoking the need for introspection and study.
Now I would speculate that since Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun, that this final ruler of Virgo would be the farthest body from the Sun. However I do believe that Virgo does have a second ruler, for the flighty and communicative Mercury cannot describe the traits of Virgo alone. If it were ruled by a second planet which was the higher octave of Saturn, and the Anti-Mercury, it would explain Virgo's reticence and perfectionism. Sedna perhaps? I am unsure about what fits this one.

interesting I think this should be moved to educational board.
I will be back with some thought on what you posted later

Not entirely sure about this as it is more of an experiment or rather his own look at more possible answers to certain planets, then it is confirmed astrological knowledge.
However, I do like this sort of research or thinking outside the box and appreciate your post very much Blennus. Interesting view!

Sorry for the thread necro, but I feel that I have to add to this.
I'm going to swear in church and assign Eris as co-ruling Libra. With Eris, bipartisanship no longer works, we have to get off our fence, pick our side, and start to express the cardinal side of Libra. Venus is balancing the scales, and Eris upsets it.
So, the big question would be, how do we separate Eris and Uranus?
Consider Venus and Saturn - harmony vs order. A jailbreak is an Uranian activity, telling your mother in law what you think of her is an Erisian.
With Eris active we can no longer act against our integrity for the sake of keeping peace. Venusian limitations are imposed by choice, Saturnian by law.
