Empty Houses? (no planets there)

What happens when someone has empty houses (no planets)? I've heard to look for the ruler of the sign at the cusp of that empty house. For instance, in my chart, i have these houses all empty: 2nd (money & possessions), 7th (marriage & partnerships), 9th (philosophy of life), and 10th (career tendencies)

So let's take my 10th house which is 10degrees in taurus. Venus rules taurus and venus is 27degrees in cancer and in my 12th house (the "hidden" house).

What does all this mean? How do you interpret empty houses?

My brother on the other hand has even more empty houses: 1st, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Re: Empty Houses? (no planets there)

I guess I see the focus of your life described by the houses that are tenanted, and those not do not have such a big profile in your life. You bring up a good point in the ruler of an untenanted house can be an important player in the whole chart which brings added prominence even though untenanted.

Your 10th house is not so busy so your work life career may not be a dominant theme in your life. Hwoever venus rules your mc, so whatever you do, career wise or ina socail prominence venus is the calling card if you like. It being in cancer brings themes of home and emotions. Painting and art can be another thing brought up with this, many others too.

Addiction/Spirituality are things that come to mind for the 12th, also a tendencey to solitariness. I can see this in the artistic endeavours, the aloneness to really concentrate be in the moment and not be distracted by anyone elses vision.

Pluto and Saturn are at the bottom of the chart, so picked up on the close to home theme, seems there are some important lessons in this area. And remember lessons can be fun, even with saturn if given due respect.

Re: Empty Houses? (no planets there)

You have to combine the meanings taking into account that position is more prominent than domination.

That Venus in the 12th and ruling 10 and 3, getting trined from a good Jupiter in the 8th, could be saying your social status may get you and your brother involved in secret affairs with very wealthy women, for example :P

Just taking a wild guess there!

An example: My 4th house is empty, but its ruler Venus is in the 9th house, so among other meanings, I'm pretty sure it means I will spend the last period of my life abroad.

When a planet is aspecting other planet it extends its meaning to the house the other planet is in (but not to the house or houses the other planet rules!) For example, Mars in my chart is in my 1st house, ruling the 3rd house (brothers) and trining that Venus in the 9th, and it turns out that my brother and I ended up travelling to the same country and having relationships with foreign women!

Try to combine meanings in this way, taking into account always placement by sign and house, whether the planet is in its own sign, in detriment, fall, etc. It is said that good aspects from good planets can balance a bad cosmic state, but good aspects from bad planets can worsen it! In the same way, an opposition or square from a Jupiter in Saggitarius can be more beneficial than a trine from a retrograde Mars in Libra =) In your case that Venus doesn't seem to be that bad...

Ok too much =P

Xapu

GemascLeo, I moved your thread to this forum (houses & cusps) as it was in the Aspects forum before. Just so you know!

When a house is unattended you always have to look at the ruler of that house in order to get information about this house. When houses are unattended, indeed, there is less focus on them in your life, and the only time there will be, is when a planet transits through these houses, or by progression, some planets DO get from the house before that one, into the empty house. In your case progressed Moon will get into the 2nd and bring focus there for a while and progressed Mars will eventually get into the 7th house. Houses 9 and 10 will only get the progressed Moon in there I because two houses combine 60 degrees together, only the Moon will be able to go through that as she moves fast (about 1-1.5 degrees per month). Jupiter will be very slow in progression but might reach the 9th at some point.

So do keep these planets, especially the progressed Moon in mind. Moon rules the 12th, selfundoing and hidden things, so it will bring these aspects into those empty houses or it will connect your subconscious feelings strongly with the life compartments Progr. Moon is transiting. Maybe some karmic events could stirr up related to these houses. 10th house is the house of one of your parents, modernly the father, traditionally, the mother. So when progr. Moon moves through the 10th, things from a time long forgotten but subconsciously registered, could maybe start playing a role during the progression.

Venus ruling your 10th but situated in the 12th could mean several things. It could maybe show that your career has to do with institutions or hospitals, places of confinement (writers do have this position often as they work in solitary conditions), maybe there will be an element of empathy connected to your career as the 12th house is the house of Pisces. Or drugs (maybe a career in wineproduction, Venus has to do with the good life after all).
Cheers, Starlink
