Is this a conjunction?

Hi everyone,

I would like your opinion because I’m not sure whether or not there is a conjunction between the Sun and the Moon in my natal chart. I’m reading “Understanding The Birth Chart” by Kevin Burk.

He says, “Conjunctions occur between planets in the same sign.”

But later in the book he gives a description of Orbs, where he says,

“By adding up the moieties for the two planets, we can see how close together the planets need to be for their orbs to touch and therefor aspect each other.”

Sun 15 degrees (7.5 degrees moiety)
Moon 12 degrees (6 degrees moiety)

Therefor, for the Sun and Moon to be conjunct they have to be less than 13.5 degrees apart.

Astro.com doesn’t list it as an aspect on the Major Aspects List with my Birth Chart, but there is a little conjunction symbol in the Aspect Table.

So, given that the Sun and the Moon are not in the same sign, but are less than 13.5 degrees apart, would you consider there to be a conjunction?

Sun – 0 Aqu 12’ 58”
Moon – 20 Cap 55’ 21”

Thanks.

I personally think ten degrees is a bit wide for a conjunction, but then again I've easily seen astrologers allow a ten degree orb for oppositions...I suppose that it is all a matter of preference

Hello Holly,

different astrologers use different orbs, but in my opinion there is a Sun-Moon conjunction in your natal chart. Even though it is a wide one, it is still within orb.

When I analyse natal charts, I allow an 8° orbs for conjunctions, if one of the luminars is involved then I allow a 10° orb.

I use the orbs mentioned by Burk only for horary charts.

Orbs on astro.com can sometimes bee to wide, and some other times they can be too narrow. Much depends on the settings that you choose.

Who knew? I guess that means that I have a Sun/Moon conjunction also! 8)

I suppose I've become strict with orbs because of my own Sun/Venus/Mercury conjunction...although these planets are within one degree of each other in my natal chart, I sometimes even disregard Mercury because it does not occupy the exact same degree as the Sun and Venus!
