Foreign Land

Hello

I have learnt that the 9th house signifies long distance travel. Does it also signify settlement in the foreign land ? If so, then is there a way to determine if and when the person will eventually return to his/her native land ?

Take care.

Re: Foreign Land

Having yo-yo'ed between two countries six times in the last 13 years, I have some experience in this matter.

This is not a simple question. Relocation from one place to another, anywhere in the world, is a 1st/4th/7th house question: the 7th house being the relocated place. You look to the 9th house ruler as well, and see what it's 'doing' in the chart. In several of my personal charts about these moves, for example, the 9th ruler would be shown in the 4th, indicating (for me) that the 'foreign place' is actually my home. POF will show what, or where, the person values.

As to being able to tell whether a person will come back or not, I don't think this is possible, unless the 'coming back' takes place in a relatively short time.

Free Will plays a huge role in life, so the choice of whether to come back or not, is the person's choice (so to speak). If the querent's significator, or one of the major relocation significators is retrograde, of course, you might have your answer already.

Re: Foreign Land

Thank you, AG

This is a subject that has been creating great confusion in the last few days. I am studying a chart where a person supposed to be abroad is repeatedly showing up in the 7th house i.e. his 1st house !!! I thought he was supposed to show up in the 9th. But then ... whose 9th ? The querent's or the questied's ?? I feel a horary chart is to be judged from the querent's point-of-view. So if it is a question whether the questied is abroad shouldn't I turn the chart and read it from the other side ? Or am I making a mistake here.

I really, really appreciate your help. Already I have asked so many questions and you have always been there, patiently explaining. Thank you, once again
Take care.

Re: Foreign Land

You're welcome.

As to your question, it might be a good idea to clarify what is being asked. If someone has mysteriously disappeared and the querent is wondering whether they have gone to the Bahamas, then you would expect to see the quesited 'somewhere else', as you've said. But if the quesited is regularly showing up in the (his) 1st, then it seems likely that s/he isn't in a foreign country at all, but is hiding out at home. Sometimes the placement of the significator tells us everything we need to know. Did you want to post the chart?

Cheers,
AG

Re: Foreign Land

From what I understand, your question is similar to a 'missing person' query: "Where is X?". In which case, much like missing object horaries, the house placement will tell you. You can look at the radical 9th house significator to see if s/he has been someplace foreign (we would expect to see a separating aspect between the quesited's significator and the 9th significator) or is heading to someplace foreign (with an applying aspect)...but where the person is now will probably be shown by whatever house they're in. You don't have to turn the chart: the 9th is the 9th is the 9th and represents 'foreign countries' in general; not 'his' foreign country.

Does that help?

AG

Definitely, it helps, AG. And you are right ... I was trying to do a missing person's chart. I knew the person was supposed to be abroad but I was getting a different answer ! Now armed with the new knowledge I'll cast one more chart and try to decipher the matter. May be I'll post the chart in the relevant section. This thread has been such a great help.

Take care,
