curious, why the red faced symbol?
You can determine the specific aspect of God that you should worship through astrology.
You can also determine if you will meet your guru in this life. In India it is commonly believed that success in spiritual quest is possible only if you have the right guru to guide you.
You can also determine if you are destined to succeed in this venture by examining the planets that govern this aspect in your chart.
Impediments on the way can also be identified through the chart and remedies to obviate them.
Great Lesley. It's wonderful that you are putting urselves in this path. I wish you good luck.
Mathur Ji,
Can you please put forth some placements that will guide us thru this? What general placements can lead one towards spirituality? Yogananda Paramhamsa has his chart analysed when he was a kid and an astrologer perfectly predicted what he will become in the future. The realized being he went on to become. If you can post some placements, I will be very grateful. Thanks

ketu is the planet/separative node leading to detachment, realising the true self and the father in heaven passing through pain, giving up worldly connections including the close ones and the world around, material priorities, including the body. ketu the significator for moksha.
rahu too leads to knowledge and light passing through the dark tunnel, whlle seeking material benefits and aspirations, experiencing the same only to realise and give up later. rahu gives experiential training generating realisation from within, not restricting what one seeks, creating temptation and testing the grounds.
saturn is philosophical, is hard upon itself, sets boundries not allowing one to slip, calls for hard work and struggle, gives results according to karma, allowing oneself to deal with according to one's karma/deeds, taking ownership for rewards and punishment; overcoming past karma too through penance. The current birth and behavioral patterns too are evolved as learned behaviour and habits from the past towards self-realisation, past life regression therapy, corrective action and evolving positive-spiritual behaviours, morals and ethics, differentiating what is right and wrong for the soul and it's true purpose.
mars encourages spirituality through service of mankind and the nation.

Jesus-ketu experienced the pain for mankind, and displayed self-resurrection, said to reappear through the rock etc.
Need to integrate dharma, artha, kama, moksha for a wholesome balanced personality moving towards Godliness and bliss/moksha in a sustained, calibrated manner, under the guidance of a Guru, and God as the role model, Rama, Krishna, etc to anchor oneself upon apart from being merely theocratical, grammar must lead to prose and poetry and it's experienced beauty in the worldly practical context with soul and body living in co-existence without conflict of values and morals.
moon is Godliness through universal Motherhood - say Mother Teresa,
Venus is unconditional love, needs no logic or coded knowledge, Bhaktiyoga.
Elevated venus pisces selfless attitude and service alike Florence Nightingale.
Venus virgo debilated, self-centred in relationships, selfish.

pisces and 12trh house is the final equilibrium in self-fulfillment, sensitive, wise, liberated, merging with the divine, ketu helps total detachment, heightening the spiritual experience, the seat of spiritual upward journey; the ascetic giving up desire, relationships, etc.
hope this attempt offers some framework to contemplate how astrology and the charts have the spiritual connect, towards self-realisation, integrating the past-present and the future on the continuum, easy to state but difficult to integrate needing a realised spiritual counselor/the Guru able to analyse-integrate and calibrate the onward path, the Guru seeks the deserved Disciple at the right time assigning universal roles, dealt through esoteric astrology for the soul, it's stage, the blocks, and the future spiritual journey and the soul purpose.
hope this helps, other learned members may enlighten enabling better simpler understanding and help forge further clarity on the theme of astrology and spirituality, the zodiac as the evolving spiritual path, and the planets experiencing and learning on this track and evolving ahead, the birth chart representing the unique DNA of each individual based on his karma and life purpose and stage of evolution, setting the soul agenda ahead.
Astrology could be one of the tools helpful in the process, triggering self-reflections and contemplations. While one could do without it, through Psychic and guided experiences and self-meditation alike Buddha, Mahavira, etc.

Start by reading the sabians symbols for each degree of your chart axis, (ac = who, dc = whom-to, ic = why, mc = how) planets positions and the part of fortune (part of fortune represents our Christ/Krishna consciousness, fulfillment of our dharma or essential essence, future-oriented global man.)
You can read the symbols here. Due to the enumeration of the degrees read the next symbol up for instance anything from 00.01-00.59 Aries is the first degree of aries.
http://www.mindfire.ca/An Astrological Mandala/An Astrological Mandala - Contents.htm
The sabian symbols, especially when mixed with the parts, are truly the "next level" of astrology for spiritually minded folks, with an emphasis on evolution and very much so inspired and influenced by the divine.
Go to the "degree" subforum and the "astrological parts" subforum on the "other astrology" forum and read some of the threads initiated by me and/or forum member piercethevale.
Ps these aren't Vedic techniques. The sabians symbols were designed and work in tandem with the tropical zodiac exclusively.
I figure I'd share anyways in the name of spiritual enlightenment.
Very clear and full exposition.
