Help with Career Choice
Hi everyone I haven't posted here in a while but I'm going back to college this fall and would really like some advice on which subject I should focus on for a career. I'm really good at psychology and really do love it but my best subject in school has always been math and I also have a passion for quantum physics which would be my dream job as a scientist somewhere testing different theories. Do I need to post my natal chart for you to help me? I'm posting it anyway.

Re: Help with Career Choice
Hi,
You are on the right track, you can choose either. Maths, the basis for research, and certainly the basis of physics, seems spelt all over your chart for me.
For Maths, you need a strong Saturn, and I have always found aspects between Sat to Moon helpful for Maths (Einstein had it, so do I, by no means in the same league, but I don't mind Maths either, especially if I don't have to write exams in Maths ). You have a strong Sat in Cap, coming from the Aquarius (analytical sign) house. Saturn rests purely on logic and what 'is', facts. Isn't that the definition for Maths or the sciences, in general. You speak about research work, this can be seen in the 9th house of learning pursuit and research. If you want to make research you career, the 9th house belongs to the sign of Sag, which rules your Midheaven (career). You want to do research (involves continous learning) on a daily basis, this is shown by the ruler of Sag (sign of higher learning), Jupiter (expansion of knowledge) in your 6th house (day to day work) and is ruled by Leo, whose ruler, the Sun is also aspected by Sat, thus completing the circle. Interestingly enough Saturn also aspects your 3rd house (mind and the ability to learn, in general) ruler, Venus. Saturn is written all over your chart.
What speaks in favour of psychology is of course your Sco Sun and ruler of your 3rd house, Ven, also in Sco, and both these in the 8th house of Sco, amplified by Pluto's conj to those Sco planets.

Re: Help with Career Choice
Your horoscope shows a native who would be a mathematician or in related fields. Using whole signs houses which can be easily seen behind the Placidus system, you have Mercury and Mars in angular houses-- 10th and 4th respectably. This is an indication of a mathematician and indicates what the native will do in life. These planets also rule very useful and profitable houses. Mercury rules the 7th and 4th house, and Mars rules the 9th and 2nd house. Since these houses have strong rulers the areas of life they cover should go very well for you.
When looking for an occupation or career consider the competition. There are more psychology majors than any other. Thus there is lots of competition for jobs there. However, students avoid maths and so there is less competition for those fields and more demand for them. In addition, the pay is higher for people who can do mathematics.

Re: Help with Career Choice
The best psychologists I know are mathematicians by profession.
They seem to be able to look at facts really and lead a train of thought to logical conclusion about a person. The people in the social sciences are a lot more biased. To me personally there could be found a lot of mathematics in psychology and the perfect combination between them would produce one great science.
There's also a certain element of wanting to shine with MC ruler Jupiter in Leo. Your day-to-day work (6th house) may involve you being on a stage (Leo) somehow.
Also Pisces Rising is very psychologically oriented and Jupiter in Leo in 6th house co-rules your whole chart.
Moon in 7th shows you tend to project your emotions outwards with the aim to have a more objective view of them. That's also good for psychology as you need a mirror, a partner and that's when your own emotions surface. Being on your own may leave you to feel that you're emotionally dry somewhat and not nourished. Also Moon in 7th (the public) is very good for popularity, for example as a PR (the Moon also represents the public). Moon in Virgo is very detail-oriented and matter-of-fact. It is very good for mathematics but also for presenting detailed critical analysis (Virgo) to the public (7th house) somehow. And Jupiter in Leo still wants to shine.
Sun-Venus-Pluto in Scorpio in 8th house is very strong for psychology but also for any kind of analysis indeed. Two of the mathematicians I had in mind in my first sentence have very strong 8th houses. One is heavy in Virgo (maths) and the other has Mars there as well as Pisces Rising and Moon in 7th like you.
Overall, I think the chart also shows good indications for teaching. MC in Sag and ruler Jupiter in Leo (shining, a stage). Once again Jupiter in Leo co-ruling your chart speaks the need to be seen to me.
In the Sun-Venus-Pluto trio Pluto is the strongest (Pluto is in domicile by sign and house, the Sun cannot really 'shine' much neither in Scorpio nor in the 8th house, Venus is in detriment by sign and house). So Pluto pretty much holds the reins there and there should be a very strong Plutonian theme both for the Sun and Venus if they are to express themselves at all. Pluto digs deep, Pluto digs to the core. Pluto is never satisfied with what it gets. There will be a constant urge to go deeper and deeper and the only way to feel at least partly ok with who you are (Sun) and what you possess and value (Venus) is to embark on an ongoing journey with final destination the core of the matter knowing in advance that practically you'll never be able to reach it. Both Maths and Psychology (as well as other spheres such as archaeology and history, for example) allow for that. That's a triple conjunction there which speaks of high levels of energy and it's a bit like Pluto has recruited slaves, or ok allies, in the face of the Sun and Venus that will accompany him on his quest into the underworld.
*One of the best psychologists and astrologers whose works I've read has a degree in applied mathematics and has worked as a computer programmer for 10 years. The practical matter-of-fact way in which he describes both psychology and astrology has certainly taught me a lot. And I personally have a degree in Psychology.

Re: Help with Career Choice
I agree with psychology absolutely. Sun, Venus Pluto if you use that, in the 8th Scorpio. Counselling and working with governmental agencies is also an option. Psychotherapy is the way to go. Uranus Neptune in the 10th of career point to breakthroughs with healing those in crises. Using latest scientific research and working with humanitarian groups such as those that are disadvantaged in society.

Re: Help with Career Choice
scorpio176, really think through what career you want after graduation. If you want to practice psychology, you will probably need a Master's degree. A Ph. D. is probably better if you want to be a clinical psychologist.
With any of these fields, I recommend you have a realistic talk with your academic advisor and career counseling center about job prospects in these fields, and do some Internet sleuthing as well. To be hired as a physicist or mathematician, what specializations are most in demand? Can you practice them with a bachelor's degree, or do you need graduate work?
One field that might combine a few of your interests is statistics applied to human behaviour. Another might be applied mathematics.
Have you got student loans to pay off?
By all means follow your dreams... but dreams are easier to track if you have a road map to where you are heading.
