What is Horary astrology?

I have never heard of this before, what is it?

*Horary* means *of the hour*...so a horary chart is a transit chart (where the planets are NOW, at the very moment you are asking a question.)

Horary is predictive astrology and has special rules...If you go up to the top of the page, you will see the words *Forum Jump*. If you click on that, a list will unroll and a whole section of horary astrology will be there....go for a browse....

Horary is a very ancient way of giving answers to any sort of questions.
Horary was mainly brought to our attention through the famous Astrologer William Lilly who lived in England in the 16th Century.
His most famous book explaining everything about horary astrology is called
"Christian Astrology" and contains of 2 books, one only dealing with natal, traditional,astrology and the other only dealing with horary astrology. It is written in old English which is often difficult to comprehend, but there are "translations" in modern English as well.

Horary astrology is very different from natal astrology, but because it looks similar (calculations are similar) members often treat it as natal astrology, especially when talking about aspects. Modern planets do not count, so Pluto, Uranus and Neptune are out of the equation. Some modern astrologers however do use them. Others, like me, use them when they appear at an angle and are very prominent. I never use them as significators of the querent or the quisited. So Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, Scorpio by Mars and Pisces by Jupiter in horary.

In horary astrology, aspects can only be ingoing or outgoing, meaning things that are going to happen and things that have already happened. Therefore you can never say: ah, there is a trine between the ruler of the querent (he who asks the question) and the quisited (the thing the querent is after, wants to know about). You always have to look if the faster one of the two planets is moving into an aspect with the slower one, or, if he already has conjuncted the slower one and is now in an outgoing aspect. The exact aspect (up to the minute) is when things come together.

Example: You want to know if you are going to meet your friend.
You are the Ascendant (always) and your friend is signified by the ruler of the 11th house (here it is like natal astrology, 11th house, friends, 5th house, children, 6th house illness and work etc.).

So if you are Mars (Scorpio or Aries Ascendant) and the 11th therefore is Virgo or Aquarius, rulers Mercury and Saturn, then you have to see if Mercury will get to an exact ingoing aspect with Mars. Mercury is the fastest of the two so he has to move direction Mars, not the other way around.

If Mercury has passed the exact aspect (sextile, square, trine, whatever) then you two have seen one another already and wont see each other again.

There are many many rules in horary which you can learn about in the horary technique section, and in tutoring classes in the Internet.

Very good horary books are : "The Horary Textbook" written by John Frawley,
"Horary Astrology plain and simple" written by Anthony Louis. Both are really nice books.
Of course the "bible" of all horary books is the Christian Astrology written by William Lilly.
