Attached are the images obtained in this way by clicking on the red "Sqr 1°26'" (tr.Mercury-na.Mars) and "Sqr 0°1'" (tr.Mercury-na.Pluto) in the tabular display of James Holmes's personal transits. These show:
1. Mercury never became exactly square to Mars. Its closest point was on July 14 when the square was 0°23'. At the time of the shooting Mercury was retrograde and forming a 1°26' square with Mars.
2. Mercury formed two exact squares with Pluto, the first on July 9 at about 14:41 MDT, the second on July 20 at about 01:47 MDT (about an hour after the shooting).
A second program from the same publisher, entitled Your Planetary Transits, gives more exact results. We can set this program up to give us all Mercury transits (with orbs 3°, 5° and 7°) to James Holmes's natal planets in the period June 15, 2012, to July 31, 2012. Omitting planets for which there was no transit in this period, we obtain the transit table given in the attached text file (this should be saved and viewed with fixed-width font such as Courier). From this we obtain the following data for transiting Mercury (which I have re-ordered chronologically):
An exact trine with natal Pluto occurred at 08:20 MDT on June 13.
An exact trine with natal Mars occurred at 04:31 MDT on June 14.
An exact opposition with natal Venus occurred at 06:20 MDT on June 18.
An exact square with natal Jupiter occurred at 09:40 MDT on June 18.
An exact sextile with natal Moon occurred on June 21 or 22 (uncertainty due to lack of birth time).
An exact square with natal Pluto occurred at 14:12 MDT on July 9.
A trine with natal Mercury reached a minimum of 3°28' on July 14.
A square with natal Mars reached a minimum of 0°23' on July 14.
An exact square with natal Pluto occurred at 01:25 MDT on July 20.
Similar results could be obtained by using the YPT program for other transiting planets, such as Saturn (see attached text file).
In case anyone is wondering, all of Holmes's personal transit data, which I have posted previously in this thread, is independent of Holmes's birth time, except in the case of transits to the natal Moon. (Personal transits make no use of houses.)
I used a birth time of 12:00 PST, 9 hours earlier than his actual birth time. But in 9 hours the positions of the planets in the natal chart don't change significantly, except for the Moon, which moves by about half a degree per hour, and so about 4.5 degrees in 9 hours. Thus only the transits to the natal Moon would be affected by a change in birth time (which I noted in the case of the Mercury sextile to his natal Moon), the others are not.

I have seen listed the time as 9:40pm and 9:04pm.
This time figure from astro.com - I did not see where it came from, birth records in san diego or from another source. But taking it to be accurate,
the sol figure of j holmes is 9 scorpio (60th harmonic sun) conjunct his pluto and mars. This is in keeping with my original supposition of the scorpio sol sign (not libra or daytime birth times submitted in many circles (astrodienst) for example. I also see the sol conjunct his mars pluto conjunction with 2/3 degrees and all this squared many outer planets - the sociopathic relation and his horrific take to the dragonic character.
- The progression this time figure keys in (via paneagle progression techniques) is the day for a decade - this would bring the 8 degree sol to 11 degrees in close conjunct his pluto at 11 scorpio 28 during this decade of his life - This would coincide with an arc from the sol degree arc (sol to pluto) of 2.5 degrees to 3 degrees sometime in the as a close progressed to pluto.
- Another relation was the 8 to 13 degrees scorpio on the 8th house cusp at time of the rampage. Include also transit pluto at 8 to 9 degrees in capricorn sextile this sol sun degree. I also notice the 60th harmonic of mercury at 5 capricorn which was conjuncted by transit Pluto this past year, and continuing as it retrogrades backwards to 5 capricorn.
Neptune at 7 capricorn severely conjuncted by pluto is surely a vital aspect here. mars in libra transit was square by 3 degrees - The natal 60th harmonic of Uranus was 5 virgo as well. Neptune is within transit opposition of this by 2 degrees currently.
- The natal MARS is conjunct his natal IC. An acute position. There is surely something important in his childhood/upbringing/parents. Leo rising (aka the joker persona). His Moon in Virgo at 29 degree is VOC and surely a factor, a persecution complex perhaps, and technical planning, intelligence misguided.

To save everyone the trouble, here's the chart, with transits added for July 20, 2012.
Not sure if anyone pointed out, earlier, the conjunction between transiting Pluto and natal Neptune, coming at the end of a series of particularly difficult Pluto contacts, beginning with his Sun in about February 2004, that would reverberate between the tightly conjuncting Sun, Saturn and Uranus.
Pluto began to irritate natal Neptune in February 2011 and was stimulating that planet until March, when it went out of orb, returning by Rx to exact in July.
By transit, Neptune trines natal Pluto and squares natal Mars.
The combination of illusion/delusion and destructive power in this chart and its transits are sobering.

The Mars Pluto conjunction of James Holmes was quite distinctive in his chart, and he has a very, very afflicted Moon (squaring Chiron, Saturn, Sun and Uranus). So I'm not surprised he is struggling to be emotionally balanced.

2. Given the pressures for university (undergrad and grad) to really excel and master material in a short amount of time, maybe Holmes struggled to deal with the pressures of grad school?

Yet we come to some crossroads here, the first of perhaps 5 crossroads
in the coming years before Polaris is the exact north star, and our spiritual navigation becomes somewhat or more firmly united.
I think we are in a cosmic egg, being drawn to a point of birth, which is

The pkg. sitting undelivered in a mail room for 5 days is a perfect example of merc stationing retrograde: a breakdown in communication. Hopefully more will come out about that in the months to come.
NOW that we have Holmes rising sign Leo, the mercury retro begun at 12 leo is direct to the mark - we see the effect, as it redirects today at 1 leo - Aug 11/12, and first steps to mental "uncovery" and legal ramifications begun. his secret agenda or the hidden enemy (12th house) - would win think uranus trine in aries to his 9th coming would reveal in time and provide insight for the public and this persona, but pluto square his rising in a few years is his future with saturn moving to his sol (60h sun)/mars/pluto in scorpio in the coming 12 months or so.
From the psychology (of soul...i.e Soulogy) perspective, I doubt the mind/soul of this individual would want to be consciously present in the body very much to know what he has done, or be aware of its effects, nor know of the past causes of such behavior. But he may at some level know quite well, or at least partly, even as most go into denial and deep state of retreat. - Venus was on cusp of 6th house in San Diego Natal chart - IN aurora 1 virgo rising would lead to relation to cusp of 6th house, high cost to Aurora in legal sense and human lives) - Aurora IC at 26 scorpio is conjunct the 8th house cusp of shooting event. Oddly, it seems likely he could be able to earn money in Colorado working, or in school, or by writing book. Mars Pluto in 3rd house indicate stress caused by holmes' school situation and psychiatric evaluations were made but not properly identified/ discussions on sex or power issues with the consultant seem surely related.
If I was to ask where in his past life did he experience mass murder, as victim or otherwise, one would think mars to 4th means in california, but node in pisces on 8th also suggest western location, possibly colorado or in western state nearby - Perhaps this is only the revelation of his current life and locationality of the event. I continue to ask what happened to him with mars to 4th cusp in his family upbringing, or early school experience.
