www.astro.com free horoscopes, Extended chart selection, go down to bottome left and select...

If you are just learning basic astrology I would suggest you leave these til last.

Have you read the 'welcome sticky' at the top of this forum? It has some great explanations, links etc and also has links to forum rules & regs...

Real fast, you'll want to study Hellenistic Astrology for a discourse on this.

One of the first things you'll learn is that "Parts" is an incorrect term, they are actually "Lots," and in fact their origin is not Arabic, but Hellenistic. So, essentially you'll want to research Hellenistic Lots in order to discover how they were invented and used.

Certainly, you'll first learn about the most important one, the Lot of Fortune, which is truly the most important thing in any horoscope; as well as the Lot of Spirit.

Without using these two major Lots, you would not know the fortune of the native or event. The other Lots are used for clarification in particular areas.

The Lots are used as secondary Ascendants. The Lots become the 1st house they are read in that way, generally.

A major consideration is the 11th sign from your Lot of Fortune. There is the bestower of your riches and fortune.

All the Lots/Parts are used in similar ways.

I don't recommend www.Astro.com unless you have a table of essential dignities at your disposal, because there is no sign of them on that site and its rather misleading. Grab hold of the classical and medieval texts.

Lots are fun and very informative. They are necessary for example, because the 3rd house can validate more than one thing. It can show your brothers, your dreams, or it can even show your father in jail (12 houses from the 4th!). The Arabics created so many different Parts because they wanted to be able to tell the difference between the topic, and that seems to be their main use for the Medieval astrologers.

There are even Parts for silly things. Like, the lot of Melons. Melons!

The study of the lots is extremely fruitful (no pun intended), because it teaches the student to know what the planets signify in their most crude, or pure, form. This cannot be stressed enough.

Most fascinating, and advanced, is that in Hellenistic astrology, there is a particular Time-Lord procedure which has been rediscovered, which is accurate to the day, called Zodiacal Releasing from the Lot of Spirit. And you can read about this at www.projecthindsight.com

Lots and Lots and Lots of Love,

Joseph

I used the Arabic Parts Calculator, which says that my Lot Of Fortune is located in Pisces, 3°41. I searched online for a description of this location, and was unable to find one. How do I find out which house this is located in, when I'm reading that Pisces' starting longitude overlaps with that of Aquarius?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out whether this is a good Lot.

According to Astro.com, my Lot Of Fortune is in Scorpio in the 10th house? Not sure if this is good or bad though, as my Lot Of Fortune seems to have positive and negative aspects to it.

Yes the Part of Fortune is @ 2 Scorpio, disposited (signified by) Mars; in whole sign house format that would put the Part in your 11th whole sign house, the house of friends, gains and the Good Spirit, a fortunate house location for anything!

Your Part of Spirit is in Pisces in the 3rd whole sign house, and is disposited (signified by) Jupiter

The Part of Fortune shows health, body, and particularly how the person interacts with the outside world, the effect of that person upon the world, upon others.
The Part of Spirit shows the inside of the person, how the world, and others, affects the person (opposite to what the Part of Fortune signifies); it also shows the spiritual development and evolution direction of the person.

Older names for these Lots show their essential connections:
-the other name for the Part of Fortune is the Lot of the Moon
-the other name for the Part of Spirit is the Lot of the Sun

You may be interested in reading the Sabian symbol for the 1st degree of Scorpio. The symbolism is actually representative of 'How' you can apply yourself in action, thought, attitude etc. in order to be most 'fortunate' in achieving your destiny or accomplishing your 'Dharma'...

The complete set as given and defined by 20th century master astrologer Dane Rudhyar can be read at this link [although half of Cancer is missing presently...and I'm presently trying to notify the site administrator about this oversight.]
