Are aspects discounted in a vocational reading?

Several years ago I had a reading in a New Age shop. I asked the astrologer what fields I should get into. She stated that my Mercury, Venus and Mars were in my 8th house and that becoming a hooker, madam, or a **** star would interest me. Fortunately, I never took her advice and wished I asked for my money back.

Now that Pluto is on my Ascendant I am in need for a change. I recently had a lengthy reading from a professional astrologer who has been in the business for over 30 years.

She primarily used the Sun and Moon as indicators to ones vocation, but after the reading it dawned on me that she never took into consideration of the Grand Trine (ketu, jupiter, neppie) or the Uranus conjunct Plute near my midheaven or any aspects for that matter in my reading.

Does that mean that aspects are not important indicators?

If anyone has some insights on my chart please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello SumSingWong, firstly, welcome to this Forum and I hope you will enjoy being with us! I think that any aspect connected to the MC or any planet in the 10th house, gives an indication about the type of career you will have. It can show the way you act, how you take action, if you are a teamplayer or not, if it is difficult for you to make a career for yourself, you name it.
So, taking primarily Sun and Moon as indicators is for me a bit skimpy. Sun shows in which lifecompartment we want to shine, express ourselves. Moon shows where we feel most at ease and safe. This does not necessarily show anything about what sort of career would be right for you, only how you would basically like to express yourself (so also at work I presume) and what sort environment you would feel good in.

The 8th house is worldly seen the house which has to do with life and death, (so funeral home owner LOL) research (association with deep Scorpio), surgery (cutting out the deadly part to keep the person living), detective work and indeed also pornography and the likes. Also deep sea diving instructor would fall under the 8th house.

Pluto being on your Ascendant now means that your Asc. falls in late Sagittarius or early Capricorn. Pluto there always will guide you into a new world by transforming things in your life, relationships being one of them and also of course, yourself as he goes through the 1st house. One thing affects the other usually.
I dont know if you are in need of change at work or in your life of course. For work, you are more likely to look at Uranus aspects to your MC. Pluto will probably have more influence on your own person and relationships with others. Does this transiting Pluto also aspect other planets?

I think the first astrologer didn't understand the 8th house and made a general comment that doesn't fit your chart. The second astrologer has her own method that, while simple, has an astrological basis (some astrologers consider the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant the most important things in any chart). My thoughts on your career possibilties are below.

I think the trine between Neptune and Saturn is a little too wide so you do NOT have a Grand Trine. Since you DO have a Talent Triangle focused on planets in the 9th house (expansion, also teaching), you have teaching abilities. Since Jupiter (expansion, also teaching) is involved in the Talent Triangle, this is another strong indication of teaching. Sagittarius (expansion, also teaching) modifying your Ascendant (self) is another indicator of teaching.

In addition to sex, the 8th house and Pluto are also about "research", so the strong teaching abilities are backed up with strong research abilities. Since you have 3 planets in 9th house in the sign of Virgo (daily work, also analysis), you also have analysis abilities to go with your researching abilties.

The challenge is you have your North node (future goals) focused in the 5th house (self-expression), so you need some way to express yourself in life. An additional challenge is you have a planet conjunct (energy is combined with) the South node (the past) focused in the 11th house (friends). So, while you WANT to focus on your friends and developing social structures, your goal is to work on things that help you express yourself and help to get you personally recognized for what you do.

Interpreting,

Tim
