Sun square Moon in natal chart

Hi all,

I always found it difficult to deal with my natal Sun-Moon square and even though I tried to work on this aspect, I often struggle to find a balance between these two energies. I have the impression that my Sun fights my Moon, and vice versa, so I often feel blocked in a way...

I blame this natal aspect for most of my problems in my personal life and to some degree in my career

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some ideas of how to best deal with this aspect.
I am also trying to understand which other aspects in my chart could help me in this process and which ones will reinforce this conflict.

Any comments are more than welcome :)

Its not that big a deal. Having the Sun and moon in square may not be as ideal as a trine or a sextile, but its a lot better than having them in say an opposition, or even worse...not aspecting each other at all. Plus they both aspect your ascendant and your mc which is hugely important. The lights aspecting the ascendant and mc is one of the 3 most significant things in a chart and you have that, so consider yourself lucky.

Not to mention that a square between virgo and gemini is the easiest square to deal with since they share the same domicile lord: Mercury.

Your real issue is the other most important thing in a chart: The condition of the ascendant and its rulers and whether the ascendant aspects its rulers.

Your ascendant ruler via domicile and exaltation: mercury is in dignity by triplicity in Libra. The issue is that your mercury does not aspect your ascendant as they are inconjunct. This would mean that you have trouble defining yourself and your overall objective in life and you arent really in touch with your own identity.

The good news is that things will likely get better with time as Mercury does aspect your mc by trine, so you will find your way eventually.

Beyond that I cant really help you, since I dont know you or your life. Im sure you already have ideas of whats good for you and what isnt by now anyway.

Hi. The Sun and Moon are in signs which can get on ok - earth and air mix well, and these elements are emphasised in the chart as a whole. And these signs are both ruled by Mercury, which is happy in an air sign and is ruled by Venus in an earth sign. There's not so much conflict in this chart.

Perhaps more of a problem than the wide Sun Moon square is the Moon Pluto sesquiquadrate, especially if the birth time is accurate because then the Moon and Pluto both make hard aspects to the asc/mc midpoint.

I would try to observe the way your Mercurial mind operates. Look for any signs of compulsion when you are trying to analyse, understand, interpret, communicate, organise, etc. Try to see what fears are driving this compulsion, and reassure yourself that you don't have to jump in every time a compulsion arises. Your chart suggests that you are under the mistaken impression that everything will fall apart, and you will be miserable, unless you understand and organise everything. But actually, while you can make good use of your Mercurial talents in various ways, you will be happier if you relax a bit.

Transiting Uranus and Pluto are still going to spend more time in tense aspect to your natal Mercury - especially Pluto. This could be a time when you become more compulsive, but could also be a time when you can work through a lot of fears, and end up more relaxed (and creative and productive) than ever. Having said that there may be legitimate urges to make changes during these transits too. Its not always easy to see the difference between compulsion and valid passion.

Thank you very much for your answers and helpful remarks.

I really didn’t know there are any positive points of having this aspect. I read a lot about some “fundamental conflict” going on in life with this square, etc.

Miquar, this time of birth is correct so Moon sesquiq. Pluto might indeed negatively affect ASC/MSC midpoint as you mentioned.

Mercury as a common ground between Sun and Moon is indeed a good option and I agree it helps.

I DO feel some conflict emotions-personality though, especially in my personal life, and to a much lesser degree in my career. I always blamed it on this square so I tried to work on it, but now I am thinking it’s maybe because of my afflicted Venus.

In your personal life...is the problem related to getting along with your friends?

Dirius,

I always thought it’s more about the fact that I have conflicting needs...As if myMoon/MC in Gemini was not always compatible with Sun/Venus/ASC in Virgo.

Mercury as a link helps a lot but does not completely solve the problem as Virgo and Gemini basically need different things and have different styles. The need for information and communication is the only common point. It is very difficult for me to keep my Virgo Sun and Gemini Moon happy in the same time, most of the time I have to give up one of them...But as I wrote I really worked on this conflict so it’s much better now. I just respect both energies and give them enough space.

As for friendships, Virgo is stronger in my chart so due to my Virgo Sun, Venus and ASC I attract people who have similar traits but who usually lack Gemini traits (or similar)...The problem is that in the long run I need both energies to thrive.

Fortunately, I do get along with people but it takes me more time to form good friendships. With relationships it’s more complicated but it might be additionally due to afflicted Venus in detriment + 12th house...

You have it expressed "blockade" of their own identity, they are people like you often do not know who they are and what they are ... it is often a consequence of the absence of his father during your upbringing or consequences idealizing character's father.

but that has nothing to do with so mo square

in life there are certain circumstances that prevent us in achieving our goals, and often can not do anything until they circumstances change...

to solve the issue career you have to know what you really want, and there you are blocked ... yet you do not know who you really are, because it resolves around 36-39 years of life

sorry for my english

Hi. Yes, Venus is looking a little uncomfortable there. Its strongest aspect is the square to Uranus, and it makes a t square with the Chiron Uranus opposition. Venus' capacity to find value and beauty in oneself and in the world in general can be hindered by Virgo's self-consciousness and tendency to focus on what needs fixing. And the 12th house has to do with experiences of being someone who has no clear identity of one's own - so although Venus is said to be exalted in Pisces, Venus in the 12th can find it difficult to feel the Venusian self-love.

Its difficult to say anything more relevant to you without knowing more about the work and relationship problems you mentioned in your opening post. But you might want to consider whether you try too hard to make everything how you think it should be, and then find that certain problems arise as a result. One problem might be that others resent this, seeing it as restrictive (they live out your Uranus for you). Another problem might be that there is resentment in your attempts to put things right, which disrupts relations with partners or work colleagues (your Uranus energy expressed from within, but partially unconsciously).

I didn't register Venus as a possible significator of your difficulties when I first looked at your chart, but I think you're right to bring it up.

Hi,
Thanks everybody for your comments. Just to clarify how I feel about this square:

The main problem I see in my career is that the pace of activity for which Moon/MC in Gemini strives becomes tiring and too much to handle for my Sun/ASC in Virgo, in the long run.
Gemini Moon on MC needs a lot of variety, several projects going on in the same time and a lot of mental stimulation. As long as the job is intellectually stimulating my Virgo Sun is happy as well, but with too much going on, after some time the Sun is striving for stability as it needs to be more focused. However, without this variety my Gemini Moon starts again attracting new challenges (=gets bored) and I again tend to spread myself too thin...
Fortunately, Mercury is the reason why both my Sun and Moon can find a common ground in looking for type of career which is ok for both. So although I feel this conflict, it is not so bad after all and simply being aware of it makes things easier.

The problem in personal issues is that people are either attracted to my Virgo or Gemini, but not to both of them. Some time ago I was with a guy with Sun in Taurus and Moon in Virgo. Our personalities were compatible but not our emotional needs. After some time the guy started rejecting my Gemini Moon energy (our Moons square...). After that I realized that it might be very difficult for me to form a happy relationship in which both my Virgo and Gemini energies can find their place.
The square Moon-Venus in Virgo makes things worse as guys I fall in love with (represented by Virgo/Scorpio) are not compatible with me on the emotional level, so I don’t get along with them in the long run. On the other hand, I don’t fall in love with those I get along with (who have dominant Gemini or similar energy in their charts). To resolve this problem, it would be best for me to find someone who also has the same conflict in their natal chart.

Sasa62, I don’t think that I lack direction in life. The Sun being in the 1st house and on ASC does give me a strong sense of identity and direction. I felt that it is only this conflict that makes things a little bit more complicated in some areas. But I agree with you on the importance of the right circumstances. Some personality traits can never thrive if circumstances (=transits) are not favorable.

May I ask what is your occupation?

Hi, I used to work in academic research in social sciences. But due to very limited prospects in my specialisation I decided that it will be better to leave academia. I currently work for NGO/non-profit sector.

If your luminaries were actually square, that tight Moon 135 Pluto would line-up to automatically have your Sun 45 to Pluto (making a troublesome “red” 45-135-90 among these three planets).

So thank you lucky stars that at that wide orb, your luminaries are not square but, rather, 44 min-orbed tri-undecile (98.09-ish degrees).

Making things much more interesting (if your astro program can be tweaked to display undecile aspect lines in the wheel), you’ll notice that luminary undecile is part of an asymmetrical undecile Kite with Moon-Sat as the spine and Sun-Mars as the crossbrace. If you’ve no such access, then just run an 11th harmonic chart and you’ll see these 4 planets within accepted orb for being conjunct - - all 4 of ‘em.

Although net guidance is scant re the undecile, “need for adjustment” and “uranian type energy” are available as keywords for you to explore what the undecile influence is (my wife has a tight undecile triangle among Sun-Mars-Uran and literally never stops focussed activity – though other aspects apply in her case).

So you could start the road in by reviewing whether it makes sense that your Kite’s 4 planets are operating in concert (perhaps as described per your latest longish post). Then adjust to taste based on orb strength as follows (big jump in there you’ll see, with the last 2 aspects especially less potent):

Mars-Sat:1 min;
Moon-Mars: 2 min;
Moon-Sat:4 min;
Sun-Moon:44 min;
Sun-Mars; 48 min;
Sun-Sat: 48 min.

Separately, your Ven suffers the 90 to Uran but is otherwise in very fine shape (in an enviable 40-80-40 NovaTrine with Merc and Mars, the Merc-Mars part of which is tightest-orbed at 18 min; and so surely you are talented and pleasure-motivated with using words).

Thanks a lot Krewster for your interesting insights.

This is a completely new way for me to analyze chart patterns and I’m gonna explore it more thoroughly :)

As the aspect involves the 1st house and the 10th then your early years with authority figures, parent, etc was conflicted. You would also have problems with bosses and others in a position of power with your career or public life

Squares are more internal conflicts and can be overcome to give you strength and character. They will often give the energy to succeed. As Virgo and Gemini are involved, it would involve your nerves and overthinking things. Also I feel allergies may play a part and you would need to be careful with your diet and what you put into your digestive system.

This is interesting. I noticed that I do tend to have extremely difficult bosses and my father has always been a very difficult person to deal with. Everybody confirmed it, it was not only my perception and I never provoked any conflict with authorities, with this natal aspect.
I come across as quite easygoing and adapting easily :innocent:
Also, when I was a child the relations between my parents were very tense and I read somewhere that Sun square Moon aspect in natal chart might actually indicate it.
