This is why I only watch KRS. He's cool as hell and isn't super serious or doom and gloom.

Most of vedic, or jyotish, is rooted in western traditional astrology - they got it from the Greeks.

But I think the nakshatra system is originally jyotish - the Persians developed a western system of nakshatras from that.

I usually have no problem understanding concepts in jyotish, because they're very very similar to concepts in ancient and medieval western astrology. Close cousins, you might say.

And they all got it from the Babylonians

Located about 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Baghdad in modern-day Iraq,
the ancient city of Babylon
served for nearly two millennia
as a center of Mesopotamian civilization
Today, Babylon is a site in peril
impacted by modern-day wars
and in need of extensive conservation and archaeological work.
Its history continues to thrive in religious stories
ancient artifacts and popular culture.

Mainstream jyotish was moderately influenced by the Greek tradition, especially via the works of the 6th century jyotish master Varahamihira; however, to claim (as some academic authors outside of India have done) that jyotish is merely a creature of Greek astrology, is an extreme and, actually, historically untenable claim.
Furthermore, the most ancient school of Vedic astrology, the (minority) Jaimini school (whose concepts and practices did not derive from Varahamihira at all) cannot be said to have been influenced (significantly influenced) by the Greek tradition.

That claim is based on the modern linear model of human history and development. It doesn't make sense with the ancient cyclical model.

As well as that
the Egyptians educated the Greeks

Persian Conquest effects were that immigration restrictions against Greeks were removed
and Egypt thrown open to Greek research.
Piracy, in which Ionians and Carians were active
had meant Egyptians were forced to make immigration laws

restricting the immigration of the Greeks
and punishing their infringement by capital punishment i.e., the sacrifice of the victim.
Before the time of Psammitichus Greeks were not allowed beyond the coast of Lower Egypt
but during his reign and that of Amasis, those conditions were modified.
For the first time in Egyptian history Ionians and Carians were employed
as Mercenaries
in the Egyptian Army (670 B.C.),

interpretation was organized through a body of interpreters
and the Greeks began to gain useful information concerning the culture of the Egyptians.
King Amasis also removed restrictions against Greeks
permitting them to enter Egypt and settle in Naucratis.
About the reign of Amasis the Persians through Cambyses invaded Egypt,
and the whole country was thrown open to the researches of the Greeks

Genesis of Greek Enlightenment was a consequence of Persian invasion
which not only provided the Greeks with ample research
but also stimulated the creation of prose history in Ionia
previously Greeks had little or no accurate knowledge of Egyptian culture
(Ovid Fasti III 338; Herodotus Bk. II p. 113; Plutarch p. 380;
Eratosthenes ap Strabo 801–802; Diogenes Bk. IX 49)
.

Students from Ionia and Aegean Islands visited Egypt for their Education.

just as in modern times countries such as United States, England, and France
are attracting students worldwide on account of their leadership in culture
similarly in ancient times, Egypt was supreme in the leadership of civilization
and students from all parts, flocked to that land
seeking admission into Egyptian mysteries or wisdom system.
and so the immigration of Greeks to Egypt for education purposes
began as a result of the Persian invasion (525 B.C.)
and continued until Greeks gained possession of that land
and access to the Royal Library, through the conquest of Alexander the Great.
Alexandria was converted into a Greek city, a centre of research
and the capital of the newly created Greek empire under the rule of Ptolemies.
Egyptian culture survived and flourished, under the name and control of the Greeks
until the edicts of Theodosius in the 4th century A.D.,
and Justinian in the 6th century A.D., which closed the Mystery Temples and Schools.
(Ancient Egypt by John Kendrick Bk. II p. 55;
Sandford's Mediterranean World p. 562; 570)

Concerning Egypt was the greatest education centre of the ancient world
which was also visited by the Greeks
reference must be made to Plato who tells us in TIMAEUS
that Greek aspirants to wisdom
visited Egypt for initiation

and that the priests of Sais used to refer to them as children in the Mysteries.
