Need some encouragement

I know next to nothing about medical astrology so I was hoping somebody who does can help me with this problem.

My fiance went to hospital in February of last year and was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. It is basically an inflammation of the spinal fluid, caused by a virus.

The doctors told him the recovery process is slow, and they estimated at the time, that it would take 6 months for a complete recovery. It has now been 1 full year and there has been no improvement. Apparantly this is normal. We went back to the doctor recently and they said it will be yet another 12 months before he recovers.

Understandibly my fiances' emotional strength is diminishing and to be told he will suffer for another 12 months has broken his spirit. He has back pain most of the time, which makes work extremely uncomfortable for him. The doctors did not prescribe him any pain killers. He is gaining weight, as the pain prevents him from doing any exercise at all. He had to give up the sport he loves, and even taking care of the house and garden is a struggle.

Would someone care to take a look at his chart/transits and find out WHY this has happened to him, and what he can do to help his situation?

Not knowing a thing about medical astrology means I can't help him, maybe someone with knowledge of the subject can? We really need some hope and encouragment.

So sorry to hear! My best wishes and prayers for a recovery in the near term.

I don't really know a whole lot about medical astrology, wish I could help more, but I should mention the way the late-Jan 2006 Jupiter/Neptune square midpoints his natal Jupiter is mighty suspicious. At the exact square on Jan 27 2006, the midpoints is _exactly_ on his Jupiter. This infers that both Jupiter and Neptune formed, at the same time with exact orbs, a semisquare to his natal Jupiter. In his natal chart, Jupiter squares his 6th house ruler Pluto, which means both JU/NE=JU and JU/NE=PL (with the later probably being more important) were active.

As Neptune has an affinity for anything infectious like a virus, the lineup makes me mighty suspicious, especially considering the exact orb. Nov2005-Jan2006 also had this Jupiter/Neptune square wrapped up into a grand cross with Mars/Saturn... That was an extremely powerful cross - In fact, on Jan 4 2006, when the cross reached it's peak power, the leaders of Israel and UAE were both striken; the leader of Israel entering a coma he still has not come out of, leader of the UAE being killed by a heart attack; this was certainly a rough time period.

I did a little searching around for some info on Transverse Myelitis and basically read that western medicine doesn't have much of a solution and it's often self-limiting (as in will heal itself in time) -- This sounds like the perfect sort of problem to be handled by energy healing; have you considered seeking out alternative treatments? You might consider seeking out a Reiki master or acupuncture specialist if possible, since energy healing is known to often speed the reversal of self-limiting conditions and reduce the difficulties face in recovery. When western medicine goes "duh i dont know?!" it's often a good time to turn to alternative techniques.

Did they ever really determine the cause (as in which virus caused it) or did they just assume it was a viral cause? From what I read it can occur as a complication from a number of viral infections, so if they have failed to pinpoint any sort of root cause and you are insured, you might try a different health care provider. Often in the case of hard to diagnose troubles, people have to bounce between a number of doctors before one can finally ferret out what's really going on. You might also consider the use of electional astrology to elect the best times to see a care provider, and even try to obtain the natal data of some possible physicians/alternative healers to look for patient/doctor synastry, especially involving Jupiter, Chiron and the Uranian point Kronos.

If you haven't found it already, although I'd guess you have, there is an association dedicated to this ailment with a web site at http://www.myelitis.org/

Again, my best wishes, and my hopes that another more enlightened soul can shed some light on this. Don't either of you loose your hope and faith; they are more powerful than anything else. Jupiter is rolling over his Moon, so hopefully he will be able to find some emotional strength through that energy, as this is a most benefic transit.

Holly,

Sorry to hear about your current dilemma with your fiancé. I have some personal experience in the same area and could maybe help if I get some more details. Along with a natal inspection it would be good to cast a decumbiture chart to link with natal but, it must be very accurate, and most definitely not a guess. Do you know the date and time this first caused your fiancé to lay down? If you do not have this, do you know the time and date of his first hospital visit? Again I must stress that you must ‘not’ guess, if you cannot be sure of the time you will need to give me what you do know and tell me how accurate you think it is.

From what I read in your post I think your fiancé may not have had all the relevant tests. Has he had an MRI scan to the Lumbar and Thoracic regions to check for herniated discs or compressed nerve tissue? What work did he do and had he experienced any pulled muscles prior to the onset of his illness? What is his stature; height & weight? Did he have any illness prior to the onset of this, any other stresses? What medication is he on? It sounds to me that he should be on a muscle relaxant such as Methacarbamol, an anti inflammatory such as Diclofenac, and a pain killer; working up from something like Co-Dydramol or Co-Proxamol up to Tramadol or even Pethidine. The problem with pain killers is not only the dependence one can acquire with them, but the need to balance the pain killer (depression causing) with an antidepressant. GP’s can be quite reluctant to give these out because of their possible side effects or dependance, but if they are needed they should be given.

If you can give me this and any other information you think relevant I will be happy to investigate for you over the next few days. If you are happier to send me the information privately, I will understand and answer you in the same manner.

Good wishes

Bob

Hi Holly,
I don't know if you are looking for astrological indications of your fiancé's physical disorder that could provide an answer for the WHY. I'm not medically trained, so any thoughts are based upon astrological synchronicities.

The spine/back is ruled by the Leo-Aquarius axis, the lumbar region falls under Libra and Viral infections are associated with Neptune. The motory nervous system is ruled by Uranus. Inflammations either fall under Mars or Sun, according to their nature. My Astrology and Health book mentions that neurological complaints can be found under Sagittarius. Fluids in the body are ruled by Moon.

It is therefore interesting to see that your fiancé's chart shows all these configurations. He has a Sun-Uranus conjunction in Libra that is in a semi-square with Neptune in Sagittarius. Semi-squares are like 'warning bells' and often indicative of A PREDISPOSITION towards physical disorders if the energy is not used as it should be. the Moon is also in Sagittarius.

Physical complaints don't occur overnight. They are a build up over years.
Medical astrology teaches that physical complaints can find their origin in emotional/psyche states.

You might like to ask your fiancé if there are (home) circumstances and feelings that he hasn't dealt with within himself, which are of the nature of the SU-UR in Libra in the 4th house semi-square Neptune in the 6th house. Does he possess the backbone to reach his full potential, or does he feel that opportunities have always been just outside his grasp? Does he possess sufficient belief in himself that he can be successful or is he easily led by other people's opinions of him? I believe you once mentioned that he is very much into spiritual guidance. Has he found that God provides for those who provide for themselves, or does not necessarily give of all that is requested of Him? Is he disappointed with what he feels llife has dealt him?

Sun and Mars inflammations both refer to 'being inflamed about something', as well as referring to strength of will and using it in the manner intended.
What is he inflamed about that he is not expressing?
Maybe some answers can be found that will enable him to use his energies in an alternative fashion BEFORE a chronic physical situation arises (Saturn inconjunct Sun-Uranus).

Unukalhai, Bob and Frisiangal,

I am really humbled by the effort and thought you all have put into this problem. Words can’t describe how appreciative I am that you have offered your help.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unukalhai,

Firstly, thanks for reading up about Transverse Myelitis in order to give me suggestions on how to handle this. I have never had any experience with chronic illness of any kind before, neither has my fiancé, so we are very much in the dark about how to handle this situation, and who to turn to. I am used to doctors knowing everything, so I am a little stunned that there is no immediate cure for my fiancé’s problem.

Now that you have me thinking about alternative medicines, there is a lady I used to work with who was employed as a Reflexologist. She was always talking about chakras and healing energy – things that just sounded like a bunch of “out there” words to me. I may see if I can track her down, as a place to start.

The doctors didn’t find a cause – they assumed it was viral. We went through the public system, so we didn’t choose our doctors. It hadn’t occurred to me to get a second opinion, as in the hospital we saw many doctors of differing skill levels and at first none of them knew what the problem was. I will talk to my fiancé and see how he feels about getting a second opinion, and research what our options are. Certainly if we go ahead with that course of action, I will be relying on forum members to help with doctor/patient synastry, and electional astrology dates.

My fiancé has found a forum dedicated to Transverse Myelitis, but I do not know which one. I will pass on the link you provided to him.

He is certainly in need of a good transit now to lift his spirits. He is normally so optimistic (that Sagittarian Moon of his) but that attitude seems to be falling away the longer this illness goes on. Thank you for your wishes and encouragement. We are certainly doing our best.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bob,

Do you know the date and time this first caused your fiancé to lay down? If you do not have this, do you know the time and date of his first hospital visit?

On the 16th February 2006 at 9:40 am, he experienced the first symptoms and this is the very first moment he knew something was wrong. He had a “pins and needles” sensation in his back and as the day progressed, it spread further down his legs. By the end of the day he could no longer walk properly as his legs were shaking. I am confident that this time is accurate, as my fiancé has a sharp memory when it comes to time, and he specifically remembers glancing at the clock.

At 6:45 pm he saw his GP, who immediately referred him to casualty at the hospital down the street. The appointment was for 6:30, so counting the 15 min wait for the doc, I’m sure this time is accurate. He called me from outside the hospital at 7pm, when I was just starting my shift at work.

Has he had an MRI scan to the Lumbar and Thoracic regions to check for herniated discs or compressed nerve tissue?

He spent six days in hospital and during that time he had one Lumbar Puncture and three MRI scans. We saw three or four different doctors of differing skill levels and they were all baffled. They initially suspected Multiple Schlorosis (which was scary for us!) before settling upon Transverse Myelities of the 6th Thoracic Vertebrae, which they suspect was caused by a virus. He was then administered glucose steroid by IV drip.

During his time in hospital, a physio worked with him, and after being discharged he saw the physio one of two more times. He also visited his GP three times to be given B12 injections. Also, he had a follow-up MRI.

What work did he do and had he experienced any pulled muscles prior to the onset of his illness?

He is a cabinetmaker but works in a furniture factory making bedroom furniture. There is heavy lifting involved, but he assures me that he always lifts correctly and takes care of his spine.

The odd thing about this situation, (which I feel compelled to mention) is that another employee at the factory also experienced Myelitis. His was in the top two vertebrae (the Atlas and Axis), and he experienced symptoms around one eye. He was in hospital for three months, with a total of six months off work. This was 2 or 3 years ago. The doctors found no cause.

What is his stature; height & weight?

He has a fairly solid build, and at a good weight for his height prior to his illness. I’m sorry I don’t know his exact height/weight in numbers.

Did he have any illness prior to the onset of this, any other stresses?

He is otherwise very healthy, rarely even coming down with a cold. As for stress, well yes he was under a lot of stress prior. I would prefer not to publicly talk about the psychological/emotional stressors, just to protect his privacy. (If it helps you, I am quite willing to discuss it in PM)

His body was under considerable physical stress leading up to the onset of this illness. He was working two jobs (7 am till midnight, 5 days a week) which did not allow adequate time for rest. He often skipped meals and survived on very little sleep for far too long. He eventually succumbed to exhaustion and quit his second job in December 2005.

What medication is he on?

None. The doctors told him to take regular over the counter pain medication, a good multi-vitamin, and regular exercise. They seem to have the attitude of, “Wait it out, it will heal on it’s own,” which is quite upsetting.

Thanks Bob, I eagerly await any further comment you may make.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Frisiangal,

I tend to always look for reasons why people get sick, beyond the physical and medical reasons. When my body is sick, it’s a symptom of some psychological or spiritual distress, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to see what astrology can offer in the way of an explanation to my fiancés illness.

It is indeed interesting to see that his chart has all the elements of a predisposition to this illness.

What is also very interesting to me, is the type of questions you believe he should ask himself. Reading through them, I can definitely see how certain kinds of issues have played a major role in his life – some in the past 7 or 8 years, and some he has struggled with his entire life. I would prefer not to go into specific details, to protect his privacy on these very personal matters. I will mention that his faith in God is something that used to play a central, important role in his life, but now I don’t believe his relationship with God is as powerful as it used to be.

I plan to talk to him about this and raise the possibility that these issues are hindering recovery. I also think it may be wise to suggest he gets some kind of counselling or therapy. He has had very bad experiences with counsellors in the past, but I do not feel I have the expertise to walk him through such delicate psychological/emotional issues. Perhaps even a church counsellor would be beneficial for him.

What is he inflamed about that he is not expressing?

By nature he is a very gentle, placid man. I would not be surprised if his inability to assert himself and express any anger has turned against him in the form of illness. He has suffered injustice by certain people in his life, and I sincerely doubt he has truly dealt with it both emotionally and psychologically.

...BEFORE a chronic physical situation arises (Saturn inconjunct Sun-Uranus).

Is that in addition to what he is going through now? Oh my.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you all very much for the help you have offered my fiancé and me. I posted this request at a loss for what to do, thinking I was pretty much powerless to help him. I now feel empowered and hopeful, with a list of suggestions to take back to him and work through together. I can’t thank you all enough for that.

Holly,

Here is a short investigation into the major areas concerning your fiancés predicament. Sadly, I only had time to do a rough sketch of his illness significations, though I am pretty sure from the supporting significators that your fiancés problem originates in either the lumbar or thoracic regions of the spine.

From a health perspective one needs to specifically consider the ascendant, 6th, 7th, 8th & 12th houses, the Lot of Fortune, the general significations of the planets and their conditions, and the rulers and dispositors of these places. During the investigation of these planets and places, usually a quite substantial imbalance reveals itself, and this is where the cause and effect can often be seen. Unfortunately, I do not have time to investigate all these areas as thoroughly as I would have liked within the confines of the forum. What I have done is to visually scan these areas systematically and only highlight the areas where the main health significators are playing a strong part within the nativity of your fiancé.

The ascendant contains an out of sect Saturn in Gemini, and Mercury (ascendant ruler and Saturn’s dispositor) in Scorpio in 6th. With Saturn out of sect in the 1st house it is likely there would have been some difficulties and/or delay surrounding the birth, probably this would have been some problem with the umbilical chord, breathing and/or weight. Gemini rules the brain and central nervous system, the left side in particular, and the ability to transfer the nerve impulses around the body. This coupled with Saturn’s (out of sect) influence in Gemini in the 1st suggest some form of slowing down, cooling or restriction is or was present within the central nervous system, or at least some difficulty with his (Saturn) control over the nervous system in general. Being as this influence is from birth it is a dormant seed within the nativity. It would then give a strong likelihood that after a period of restriction there must come the inevitable release, or expansion. This can be seen rather like a ticking health time bomb just waiting for the right conditions to be able to act. Keeping active with work and taking part in high energy sports would have given this possible condition a positive outlet, thereby allowing it to remain in check for so long. Saturn opposing the Moon would suggest some form of interruption to the normal flow of bodily fluids which are like roads acting as the carriers for the nerve impulses. This too is indicating some form of blockage or restriction which would likely materialise as muscle cramps and a general hardening within the body cavities. This influence of Saturn upon the moon could also suggest that there could be some hormonal deficiency or growth regulation; this too would create a build up of pressure in the neurological system. Finally, looking at the last observations of Saturn effect, which in your fiancés case are on the respiratory system; some early weakness may have left the immune system open to a specific airborne virus, though there does not seem to be any direct connections that would suggest a virus as a/the cause for your fiancés condition. A major family crises, an accident at work, through travel, through electricity or through an abject reaction to foods (such as nuts) could have been a possible trigger?

I must say, this is beginning to look like something other than a virus. All the pointers so far are beginning to suggest a problem within the regulatory fluids of the brain and central nervous system. While you might gasp here and think that the news maybe going from bad to worse, I would say this is more positive than the diagnosis your fiancé has been given. Right after I noticed your post, something in it did not ring true to me. When I glanced at your fiancés chart for the first time it did not suggest a virus; which is why I contacted you to get some details to cast a decumbiture, to confirm or deny what I thought was apparent from his nativity. Also, (one important note) I am extremely aware that Neptune in his 7th house does suggest an unintentional deception or mistake from the medical profession (Neptune square Venus in Virgo).

To continue with the health investigation we now move to the ascendant ruler which is also the dispositor of Saturn, this is Mercury in Scorpio in the 6th house. While the first house describes our bodily condition, the 6th house (and any planet therein) describes the nature of any illness of which we might be prone to suffer from. Once again, we get the significator of the brain and central nervous system through Mercury’s placement here; being in aversion to the ascendant there is likely to be some form of breakdown or pressure between the central nervous system and the head. This seems to be very suggestive of a compressed nerve from a spinal disc. Of course Mercury has other significations but I am refraining from using any that have no relevance to your fiancés condition.

Mercury, being in a water sign (Scorpio) is the first instance we see of any connection from the brain and the cerebral cortex to the bodily fluids, though there is still no direct suggestion of any debilitating virus here yet either. One notable good point is, Mercury not being directly connected to Saturn in 1st and being the significator of the illness, by his very nature your fiancés illness is changeable. This is a very positive sign in relation to your fiancés recovery. His connection with a fixed sign could suggest that the affliction is a stubborn son of a gun, just as it has proven to be so far; but not necessarily permanent. The next consideration is to investigate what condition Mercury is in, and how effective his presence can be in relation to the illness.

In exploring the strength and ability of Mercury we first need to start with his position. Though there is the aversion to the ascendant which would normally mean he cannot get any ‘direct’ help from Saturn, he is a sect mate of Saturn and therefore he is able to receive indirect help from old father time, he can help via a third party. And being Saturn’s dispositor he is able to exert some positive control over the illnesses connected to Mercury. This is very good because Saturn exerts a force that can stop the medical affliction getting out of control, and by gradually reinforcing Mercury’s strength towards any illness brought about through Mercury’s significance. Although Mercury is common to both sects his overall efficiency to affect the nativity for good or ill is determined by his happiness within each individual nativity.

Occidental to the Sun = Feminine
Sector of the zodiac = Masculine
Below the horizon = Feminine
Oriental quadrant = Masculine
Feminine by sign = Feminine

There are one or two other sect considerations listed by the medieval astrologers which so far have not shown themselves to be accurate through my years of study, so until they are tested and accepted by myself and other serious astrologers I will refrain from using them here. What I am really looking for is a major imbalance in the way Mercury is acting, this will define from whom and how the help or hindrance is coming from. True to form Mercury comes out roughly even in relation to both sects in your fiancés nativity, his only stress in relation to the Sun is that he is slightly scorched by being under the Sun’s beams. Here is a sign of burn-out such as overwork or burning the candle at both ends. Another factor here is Mercury’s placement in Via Combusta which suggests a scorching of the nerves. However, the combustion effects are somewhat weakened by 1) Mercury and the Sun are in adjacent signs with virtually nothing in common 2) The degree separation between Mercury and the Sun is almost at its maximum longitude in relation to being under the Sun’s beams. Unfortunately, Mercury is not in his own chariot and so has no protection from the beams of the Sun. Being then, slightly overheated by the Sun, it could suggest things like heartburn, Asthma or a periodical inflammation of the lungs but nothing related to a viral condition, not even by just acting as a trigger for another (possible viral) illness to come forth.

We know that Saturn has a slightly helpful effect on Mercury, and being in the first house it is probable that your fiancé has the power to improve this condition in his own hands, or of those close to him. Now it is time to see whether the planets help or hinder Mercury by their condition, positions and strength. Mercury has a hexagonal relationship to both the benefic planets which is another indicator that points towards a beneficial outcome for your fiancés condition. Through his hexagonal relationship to Venus, and Venus being in Mercury’s sign and boundary this illness can also be made better through the medical profession, but only when they are sure of the prognosis. As it stands at this present time, I believe at the moment the diagnosis is faulty and more tests should be carried out. Venus is telling us that Mercury will provide the answers. Mercury’s hexagonal relationship with Jupiter shows that your fiancés condition may need some corrective surgery or some chiropractic manipulation (Jupiter in Capricorn). However, Jupiter’s condition in his fall is showing that the judgement of your fiancés condition by the medical profession is probably flawed; something is being overlooked because Jupiter is hidden in the 8th house.

Now we need to explore who is pushing mercury’s buttons, and who has overall control of his actions. Mercury is in Mars’s domicile, Mars’s trigon, Mars’s confine, Mars’ decan and the dodecatamoiria is in Mars’s sign of exaltation at 00.52 degrees of Capricorn. It now looks like we have found the culprit… Mars’s influence upon Mercury is extremely one-sided, this, I believe states the origin of the illness to be Martian (no, not the little green men) but of the head, central nervous system and through the muscles! As we now have the promissor connected with health Mars, and the significator for health Mercury, we need to see if they are in any way connected in the nativity. There is no aspectual help as the two planets Mercury and Mars are in aversion to one another by sign placement. In astrology there are conditions that exist between the signs, known as signs that see and signs that perceive; planets in Libra (in your fiancés case Mars) see planets in Aries (no link here) and planets in Scorpio (as in your fiancés Mercury) are able to see any planets in Pisces (no link here), they have no direct positive link here at all. The next set of criteria are for links between zodiac sign’s are sign’s that command and signs that obey. These describe a natural relationship between the qualities of one sign being able to affect the signs which obey. In keeping with the two lords we are investigating, we are looking for links between the zodiac signs of Libra and Scorpio. Virgo commands and Scorpio obeys, Libra and Aries are equal, again, no connection here. Another method of how the signs interact with one another are the signs that share the same ruler such as Aries/Mars being ruled by Mars, Taurus/Libra by Venus, Gemini/Virgo by Mercury, Sagittarius/Pisces by Jupiter and Capricorn/Aquarius by Saturn; the lights (sun & moon) get one sign each because they are of equal importance – Astrological equality between Sun/Moon, Man/Woman…whatever next?

There are no supporting connections between Libra and Scorpio existent so far. Next we come to signs that have an Antiscia relationship between each other. The (relevant) signs linked by Antiscia are Libra/Pisces & Scorpio/Aquarius so no help is offered here. The signs that have an Antiscia with one another are so to speak on the same train and sharing equal power. A counterpart to the Antiscia is the Contra-Antiscia which have a similar-ish meaning to the Antiscia. Antiscia are equal measurements from the solstice points where Contra-Antiscia are equal measurements from the equinox points. In respect to the Contra-Antiscia of Libra, that would be Virgo; and the Contra-Antiscia of Scorpio is Leo. Again we get no relevant connections in your fiancés chart to be able to offer help or hindrance. The fact that there are no connections between the relevant signs in your fiancés chart is not particularly important because these can be equally helpful or equally disastrous; none just means neutral – No help or hindrance from these quarters.

Under normal circumstances I just see and read these things in a chart on first inspection (kind of like the way we see the letters in a word – connections that are obvious), I have only laid out my thoughts as I examined the chart this one time only so others can learn some of the methodology involved, if they want to. I will not explain these methods again in any future post because it takes up too much unnecessary time, I will just mention any contact through Antiscia & Contra-Antiscia, seeing-hearing, commanding-obeying etc… Because I only get short windows of time in which to post I have to keep strictly to the main points concerned.

My final exploration here in relation to health is the Lot of Fortune, sometimes called the Part of Fortune or Pars Fortuna. Your fiancés Lot of Fortune ascendant is at 12.51 degrees in the Mars ruled sign of Aries. If any of the lords of the sign are afflicted (domicile ruler, triplicity ruler, sect light ruler or bound ruler) or poorly positioned they will indicate health issues with respect to their significations.

First off, the sign of the Lot of Fortune indicates the parts of the body where we can be affected by poor health, in the right/wrong circumstances. You are probably aware of the bodily significations of Aries so I won’t bore you with repeating them here. However, the ruling planet of Aries (mars) and the exaltation planet of Aries (the sun) are both in a debilitated condition in Libra. The relevant signification here is Libras connection with the Lumbar section of the spine, and through the Venus rulership we get the signification of the neck (thoracic discs in the neck). With the Lot of Fortune being in Aries it does offer a strong constitution and excellent recuperative powers which is a good sign of strength in your fiancés normal ability to recover from illness quite quickly. The Lot of Fortune being placed in a tropical sign and in a succeedent house means it carries a lot of weight within your fiancés nativity. In fact, by it being placed in the 11th house (the house of good spirit) it will receive some very good help, a little like a guardian angel, or help from unknown quarters. I will have to begin to wrap up now because I am pressed for time, but I will offer you a short passage after inspecting which time-lords are operative now, what planets were operative where/when the condition started; and what planets are operative in the coming months/years in relation to health.

The origins of this illness go all the way back to June 1995, and without intervention could drag on for a while unless you take some course of action yourself. Although you would probably love to hear that it will go away overnight, and indeed I would love to be able to tell you this, unfortunately, there are no magic wands and I can only read as I find. What I can tell you is that there should be some major improvement by September this year, or sooner if you insist on some more ‘thorough’ investigations. My summary would be that either bang to the head or some lifting accident was probably the trigger of a major nerve reaction, which in turn caused some swelling to the muscles/tissue surrounding the nerve strands in the cerebrospinal fluid. This ended up causing a/some compressed nerves in the thoracic and/or lumbar areas of the spinal chord.

Transverse Myelitis is basically a loss of the fatty tissue from around the spine through which the nerves travel; this tissue acts as a cushion for the nerve fibres as we go about our daily duties. The symptoms you described did not seem to tally with the illness Myelitis, though there are some similarities. Although you did say there are some more details you could send by PM (please do so if you wish, I will try to have another look as soon as I can make the time). I have seen hundreds of people with the symptoms you described and not one single case of Myelitis was diagnosed. I would most definitely seek a second opinion because more often than not in these cases Transverse Myelitis is only diagnosed when the radiographer or consultant cannot find an obvious condition. Sometimes MRI scan radiographers do not photograph the right angle to see where the nerve endings are being compressed, everything can look normal from the right/wrong angle, depending upon your perspective.

There is no treatment for Transverse Myelitis in the present day, and it is a good way to fob patients off if the surgery has a limited budget. To continually supply some anti-inflammatory and/or pain killing drugs can get expensive. The Hippocratic Oath states that the GP/consultant is obliged to ease the patient’s condition and improve their quality of life wherever possible. Sadly, in today’s society the dollar is more important than the health. Please feel free to ask about anything you do not understand and I will do my best to answer as soon as I can. My sincerest best wishes to your fiancé from someone of a similar condition, and I hope you can get some clarification on his condition soon. I may be able to plot a course of his condition with more details but I have several long reports due in the next six weeks which I really need to get cracking with.

A quick glance at the 1st decumbiture chart (onset of the affliction) shows very similar patterns to the nativity. The ascendant is 00:46 Aries and the north node ay 04:41 is very close to a conjunction with it. The north node in a nativity is where the cosmic energy enters our soul/being/body before it gets distributed out through the planets. The 1st house, the 1st house ruler and aspects will show the condition of your fiancé and his strength and ability to fend off illness. Aries being a tropical sign of the fire element gives very good ability to overcome illness in general. However, his ruler Mars is in the Pleiades (Taurus) very close to Algol, this is highly suggestive of a muscle injury in the neck that is hard to locate (the Pleiades looks very much like a nebula to the naked eye). He makes a very close square to the Sun showing that there is a lot of muscular strain to the spine and the back, again this is pointing to muscular tension, not viral.

The 6th decumbiture house is the significator of the illness and here we have the Moon in the Mercury ruled sign of Virgo. While the Moon in the 6th house in Virgo could suggest an upset to the digestive tract or possible virus, I do not see any confirmation that this is so. The Moon at 26:48 in Virgo is very close to the descendant and I would take this as the significator of the doctor; and the Moon is always the significator of showing the course of the illness. With the Moon being disposited by Mercury in the 12th house there is another suggestion that the illness is baffling the medical profession, causing rash prognosis. There is an almost partile square from the Moon to Pluto in conjunction the Mc, this shows that there will need to be a battle of wills before a correct diagnosis can be made. This too is another pointer that the medical profession have made poor judgement in the diagnosis of your fiancés ailment. The good news is that the Moon also makes a very strong trine aspect to Mars in the 2nd house. Mars is significator of your fiancé and the Moon applying to him by trine indicates that with a lot of effort this ailment can and will be improved (probably through medication) if you pester your GP to investigate your fiancés condition further. The transit of Saturn into Virgo in September will definitely reinforce your fiancés improving condition.

Good wishes to you and your fiancé for some improvement soon.

You've received some very good information here. I wanted to pass on what I have in a chart concerning effects of spinal misalignments. For the 6th thoriac, it says it is connected to the stomach. The emotional imbalance concerns acceptance of what has been said. Problems there can be connected to stomach or digestive problems problems. I, of course, would ask myself if I have any unresolved issues with mom or family that need to be healed.

Another thing you can do to help him is to work with his feet and find the tender spots. The spine is located all the way down the inside of the feet, left side of spine on left foot, right on right. The thoraic area is the fat part where it starts narrowing down to the arch. The waist is the narrowest part of the foot.

The head is the big toes, neck is where the toe meets the foot. Work this area well too, using firm downward pressure with you finger. Must have clipped nails for this. The area where blockages are will feel painful and you may even feel crystaline deposits under the skin as you slide your thumb acoss them. Use oil to make the movement smother. Certain essential oils can also help to break up and release toxins. When you find the tender spots, hold pressure, but not too much that it is unbearable. You don't want to put him into a healing crisis. Reflexology is usally carried out for 10 minutes per day on any blockage. As you are applying pressure, the pain may decrease. Have him communicate to you so that you can increase pressure to maintain a moderate amount of pain. Eventually, there will be no more pain in that area. There will be corresponding tender spots on the hands as well, and even in the ears.

The stomach is straight over from the bottom of the widest part of the ball of the foot, maybe 1/3 of the way over. Don't forget to check the top part of the foot in this area too. Take note of any area in his feet that is tender. I'm sure you can find a reflexology chart of the feet on line somewhere.

All the best

Bob,

There's a couple of things I want to respond to before I give you an update on where we are now.

...it is likely there would have been some difficulties and/or delay surrounding the birth...
Unfortunately, I don’t think I can get the information to confirm that.

the respiratory system; some early weakness may have left the immune system open to a specific airborne virus
He did have Pleurisy as a child.

Here is a sign of burn-out such as overwork or burning the candle at both ends.
It wasn't long after he quit his second job that he came down with this condition so it may be a possible trigger.

The origins of this illness go all the way back to June 1995
At that time he was working in a factory making big pieces of furniture. It was common practice to stand on the work bench (about waist height) to reach the tops of whatever he was making, and jump down onto the concrete floor. This may be a possible cause.

As it stands at this present time, I believe at the moment the diagnosis is faulty and more tests should be carried out.
On that advice we raised our concerns with a GP, last week. He stated without a doubt that this condition is Transverse Myelitis, but agreed to take an x-ray anyway.

The follow-up consultation was with the same GP my fiance saw on that very first day. He said it is in fact Transverse Myelitis with 100% certainty. He said the reason for the diagnosis was because my fiance couldn’t walk due to his shaking legs and dull sense of feeling.

But then he said something I found quite strange…that he had always known it was TM, from the initial consultation.

Now, I am confused by this statement. It took a team of doctors in hospital a few days and lots of tests to come up with a diagnosis, and now this GP is claiming to have known all along? Perhaps it's just his ego talking, but it did strike me as being not quite right.

This seems to be very suggestive of a compressed nerve from a spinal disc.
I forgot to bring the letter from the Radiologist (who studied the x-ray) with me, so unfortunately I can’t type it up for you to read. But it basically said the spine was ok apart from normal aging. There appears to be no compressed vertebrae or irregularities.

I was personally quite heart broken by this finding, as I was very hopeful the x-ray would show a slipped disc, which is much easier to deal with than this Transverse Myelitis business.

Also Bob, the GP prescribed some anti-inflammatory medications. Apparently, the B12 injections and vitamins were to kill the virus, and the GP stated he was quite surprised that nothing has been done to treat the inflammation.

This has made me very angry, because for the 12 months that we have been seeing the Neurosurgeon, not once did he ever offer any treatment. I have half a mind to report him to somebody for incompetence.

...may need some corrective surgery or some chiropractic manipulation...
Seeing a Chiropractor was to be our next step after getting the x-ray. But the x-ray shows there is nothing wrong with his spine, so I’m not sure what a Chiropractor would do at this point....??

...there should be some major improvement by September this year.
Funnily enough, the GP said that by taking the anti-inflammatory medication, my fiance should be completely cured of this condition by October of this year.

This too is another pointer that the medical profession have made poor judgement in the diagnosis of your fiancés ailment.
Going back to the GP has inevitably helped our situation, because now we have these anti-inflammatory drugs, and word that my fiance will be all good by October.

However, I’m very disappointed that the medical findings aren’t matching up with the astrological findings. They keep saying Transverse Myelitis yet you’ve assured me astrology doesn’t back this up. This could be due to the deception you mentioned a few times, but does it really seem likely that all the doctors, neurosurgeons, radiologists etc have all been making errors?

...this is highly suggestive of a muscle injury in the neck that is hard to locate...
This may be the only possible option we have left. All I can think of, is that maybe it is a problem showing similar symptoms to Transverse Myelitis but caused by a muscle injury, and not a virus.

I'm not sure, but I don't think they can detect muscle injuries with MRIs or X-rays. So how would I go about getting a muscle injury diagnosed?

Do you think this sounds plausable?

...this shows that there will need to be a battle of wills before a correct diagnosis can be made...
I had prepared myself (and my fiance, of course) for this possibility. The GPs won't entertain the possibility that the diagnosis is wrong. I'm a little bit disappointed with the findings from the x-ray (and very upset about the neurosurgeons lack of empathy and professionalism) and that's why I may sound a little scattered or short today. But I want to assure you that I have not taken your help for granted and I am highly appreciative of the time and effort it took to investigate the charts and form the reply.

AquarianEssence,

I, of course, would ask myself if I have any unresolved issues with mom or family that need to be healed.
There certainly are issues there, especially with his mother. I've often thought that my fiance is trapped in the past when it comes to his mother. Events from childhood seem to weigh heavily on him, even though he is now in his 30s, which is far too long to hold on to family issues, if you ask me. Maybe this illness is a sign he needs to let go.

Thank you for your suggestions. :)

Hi Holly,

Thankyou for your well considered reply; it was good to hear that some progress has been made.

I agree, that does sound a little strange, if your GP had suspected this (especially 100%) he should have mentioned it in your fiancés notes or a separate letter to the hospital doing the x-ray/scan. I had very similar symptoms when I visited my GP and I was sent home with a ‘pulled muscle’ until the following morning when I was rushed into hospital by ambulance for an emergency operation. My surgeon slated my GP for not sending me to an orthopaedic consultant for investigation, given the loss of feeling I had in my leg my surgeon said it was obviously more than a pulled muscle. However, before I went into med school I was a plasterer for around twenty years, and given my 6’7” height mine was an accident waiting to happen. Either your GP did not want to appear foolish if the diagnosis came back at something other than TM, or as you say, he may just be stroking his ego. He still should have mentioned it as a suspected case of TM because there is no loss of face in that. It is better to try and be wrong than to not try at all. I suspect you are right in you opinion.

I forgot to bring the letter from the Radiologist (who studied the x-ray) with me, so unfortunately I can’t type it up for you to read. But it basically said the spine was ok apart from normal aging. There appears to be no compressed vertebrae or irregularities.

Because the human body is not designed to walk on two legs (curved spine), by the time we reach around 40 years of age around one in twenty males have enough ‘aging’ (wear) to their spine to cause a problem, usually ‘severe’ muscle cramps are the first sign. However, this does not usually become a problem unless 1) the physique is tall and slender; 2) many years have been spent doing regular heavy lifting. The term aging is used to define normal spinal wear in orthopaedic circles. You are quite right about x-rays (bones) and MRI for hard tissue, nerve fibres cannot be detected at all. What the radiologist looks for is vertebrae that are severely out of position, enough to be the cause of compressed nerve tissue, and this is purely observational. However, all vertebrae become slightly out of position as we get older, I mean from around twenty years of age onwards, that coupled with normal wear is another medical use of the word aging. This can be a cause of pressure to the nerve fibres that would go unseen, even by the best radiographers. This is because the mathematical measurement of the movement of the vertebrae is usually not sufficient enough to warrant such a diagnosis. The good news is that chiropractic manipulation of the discs back into place can and will cause some instant relief. Whether it cures the whole condition (unlikely but possible) or not your fiancé will feel much better for it, sometimes right away and sometimes a day or two later after the spine has resettled.

Also Bob, the GP prescribed some anti-inflammatory medications. Apparently, the B12 injections and vitamins were to kill the virus, and the GP stated he was quite surprised that nothing has been done to treat the inflammation.

That is good news, anti-inflammatory medication should have been given for his condition, even before the diagnosis. Vitamin B12 is used to boost the nervous system and to treat muscle inflammation and painful joints as is Bursitis. Your GP is spot on, anti-inflammatory and pain killers should have been given at the onset of your fiancés condition.

This has made me very angry, because for the 12 months that we have been seeing the Neurosurgeon, not once did he ever offer any treatment. I have half a mind to report him to somebody for incompetence.

This is a common cost cutting measure; it all depends on the allowances given to the hospital treating him. If they were at the end of their budget year he may have been told to cut back unless absolutely necessary – in his opinion. If you complained he would probably say he did not think any drug treatment was necessary.

Seeing a Chiropractor was to be our next step after getting the x-ray. But the x-ray shows there is nothing wrong with his spine, so I’m not sure what a Chiropractor would do at this point....??

That is good news from a spinal injury perspective; they have double checked that at least. I would have thought a second MRI would have been more appropriate, but they are expensive, and radiologists do not take kindly to having their judgement questioned. The chiropractic help will definitely help (see above), I would ask for an early appointment because the sooner the better.

Funnily enough, the GP said that by taking the anti-inflammatory medication, my fiance should be completely cured of this condition by October of this year.

I only make predictions when I am pretty sure of the outcome. In your fiancés case I will come on here by webcam and eat my hat if his condition is not greatly improved by then.

Astrological investigations are still very much in their infancy regarding these types of afflictions, and I would put more weight behind the professional’s opinion than the astrological pointers. There is probably more chance of me making an error than the consultants because the human body is amazingly intricate, and they have the x-rays and MRI radiographer’s reports to go on. Trying to find the exact cause and/or diagnosis of your fiancés condition just based upon the planets is exceptionally difficult. A great deal more research needs to be done in this area. With regard to the professionals making errors in conditions such as your fiancés, where nothing obvious stands out they have to make an educated guess based upon the evidence they have at hand. At the end of the day this is all astrology can do in this area too, because it is not a cut and dried case like for instance diagnosing depression.

In my personal opinion, I still believe your fiancés condition has its roots in some kind of muscle related injury. Anything from sleeping funny, a jolting of the spine, twisting awkwardly or trying every position in the Karma Sutra could be the cause. You are quite right that muscle injuries are again not really detectable unless an obvious inflammation is visible, soft tissue cannot be seen by x-ray or scan. If I had been treating your fiancé (keeping in mind I have not seen the x-ray or scan results) I would have given an oral anti-inflammatory and some mild pain killers while waiting for an x-ray. After the x-ray showed nothing significant I would have kept to the medication while awaiting an MRI scan. If nothing significant was revealed by the MRI scan I would have arranged an appointment with a chiropractor.

The one thing we can all agree on is that (no matter what the cause is/was) there is an internal inflammation affecting the nerve tissue and muscle. These kinds of internal tears do take quite a while to heal, this is because they are constantly in use and do not get a chance to rest. As for muscle injuries being diagnosed, apart from the obvious hamstring type injuries that footballers are prone to it can only be an educated guess. It is a little like trying to diagnose why your car won’t start; a certain procedure of elimination is followed. If it is a wet (internal) injury it will heal, but it will take time and anti-inflammatory drugs, by your fiancé not having them at the start the healing process was probably delayed. Through your fiancés nativity it showed much improvement by September which also suggested to me that something needed to calm down (muscular tension etc).

Dealing with General Practitioners (no specialising) can be a bit of a slog sometimes but it seems you have made all the right moves, and at least made them check their diagnosis. It is a shame they did not medicate at the beginning, and this perhaps made the condition take longer to heal. However, things are looking a little rosy now with the astrology prognosis and the GP’s prognosis both showing major improvement at, by or during September/October this year. It may not take that long because to be much better by September there must be a consistent improvement throughout the year.

Holly,

You are more than welcome in respect to me checking the astrological significators for you, to my mind this is one of the greatest uses astrology can have.

It will be nice if you worry a little less and please convey my best wishes to your fiance for a speedy recovery. Please feel free to contact me again.

Good wishes

Thanks for everything, Bob. Things are going really well. With the anti-inflammatory medications, my fiance has noticed a dramatic improvement. He’s not nearly as tired as he used to be when he comes home from work, and he can walk around the block without spending the rest of the day exhausted.

Well, I’m sorry we won’t get to see that! ;) I’ll update you in September/October, when he is cured of this condition! :)

Dear Holy,

This is the same diagnosis they slapped on me, and I feel like contacting Center for Disease Control because this "virus" is really getting around. Please look at Dr. Horlick's page at Boston University on Vitamin D. I really think it is starting to help me. His research made New England Journal of Medicine, but this is a terrible bug; I am close to despair, but am wondering if it is something our troops are bring back from Iraq just as our soldiers brought back polio from Korea. Make sure your fiance gets a good quality pain patch and have antibiotics helped at all? M
