Re: About Decanates
Vedic astrology is very big on the elemental decans (called drekkanas), which are the same as used in Western Modernist astrology (eg, 1st decan of Aries = Aries, 2nd = Leo, 3rd = Sagittarius)
Hellenists (Greco-Romans) introduced the planets as rulers of decans, and renamed the decans "faces"; they used the Chaldean Order (of the planets) in their model (so Mars rules the first 10 degrees-face-of Aries, the Sun the 2nd 10 degrees-face-Venus the 3rd 10 degrees-face, etc) Western Traditionalist astrologers continue to follow this method.
The earliest decanate system (which we still have records about) was used both in the West (prior to the 1st century AD) and in India (among the Jaimini astrologers, who use it still), and this is known as the Manilius Decans: I have a thread about this ancient decanate method which you will find in the Natal Forum subsection, Houses & Cusps, as a "sticky"...
