Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Hi all,
I am having trouble choosing a career between psychology and music. I love working with and helping children but I also love performing. I have neptune and mars in my 10th house, and I've read that neptune can cause confusion is that correct?
Thanks =]

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Not only is Neptune in your 10th - from where it will create confusion, indecision, hesitance and even unrealistic dreams and desires for yourself - but it is conjunct your Capricorn MC, which means that it has a powerful influence over any career decisions you make.
To add to the confusion, your MC ruler - Saturn - is in Sagittarius in the 9th house and opposes your Gemini Sun. Saturn's opposition to your Sun will further add another layer of self-doubt.
I suspect that you are filled with self-doubt about what is the `right thing' for you to be pursuing career-wise.
Your Capricorn MC gives you a drive to be doing something acceptable, `normal', structured, and with a definite career path - thus your interest in psychology.
The Neptune-MC conjunction appeals to the artist/musician/dreamer in you.
Your 5th house of creative expression is ruled by your 3rd house Gemini Sun, so to express yourself creatively - especially through performance - is also a strong drive.
I cannot tell you which to choose, although in reading your post I suspect that you would most like to perform for children, or even help children perform. To do this you first have to do some of this yourself.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
I actually would prefer to work in abuse/neglect with children and I've done many performances on stage for events singing/dancing.
I'm planing to go teach English in Korea this year and hopefully travel a bit, which is why I'm not as keen to keep studying and would rather work on music.
What do you mean when you say Neptune conjunct my Capricorn MC having a powerful influence on my decision, how does it influence? good or bad?
Does Mars have much influence? I've read its good for business but I've never been interested in business.
Thanks for the reply

Intuitive factors will play an important part in your career. Good position for Astrologers, Clairvoyants, and psychiatrists. Spiritual leaders. One of your parents may be unusual. Good for acting. Visible ‑ and helpful! (Angular house). Public image obvious in career. Put on an act or hide behind a uniform to play a part. Actors, amateur dramatics. Good at painting pictures, embellishing things that would enhance people's lives. Artistic.

I don't subscribe to the terms good or bad when I look at astrology. Whether they are `good' or `bad' is determined by how you appraoch them.
Neptune conjunct MC can influence you in the following ways:
- making you overly idealistic, even dreamy, sometimes unrealistic
- making you not be able to see things in your life as they really are
- a powerful drive to help others, and to do `good works' in the world
- making you low in energy at times

Mars does have an influence, especially when in the 10th. It will grant you the necessary energy and ambition to work towards what it is you wish to achieve. Mars is in Capricorn, so this means that once you settle upon a goal which feels right for you, you are prepared to work at it with patience, resilience and responsibility. Your mars placement - in Capricorn in the 10th - is very good for achieving what you want career-wise, and more importantly it may help to balance out some of the dreamy idealism of the Neptune conjunct MC. Your chart shows a nice balance of idealism and practicality.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Most likely your confusion is due to the opposition of Saturn to the Sun and Mercury. Your chart has a strong Mars ruling the first house and the Sun ruling the fifth house. This is not so good for children, but performing with music you should do very well.
A strong Venus rules the second house indicating you will have effective backers (according to Lilly) and financial success. With the Moon in the 11th the public will love you. With Mars as exaltation ruler of your 10 house, success for your career is indicated.
You do have a strong Jupiter ruling your 9th house, and this usually indicates an academic career, but Jupiter is trapped in the 12 house where it cannot do very much. Mercury is also strong but is afflicted, combust, cadent and ruler of the 6th house. This is not so good either. It will be best to take advantage of your well placed and unafflicted Venus and go with a career in music.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Wow thanks Culpeper for the further interpretation, you really hit a spot with not having much luck with children. I've been told by doctors that I won't be able to carry a child myself, but I'm still hopeful and optimistic. There are many options available.

Working with abuse/neglected children is shown by your Jupiter in 12th house sextile Mars in 10th. Neptune is your aspirations in music in 10th house. However, Neptune will also keep you confused abt what will satisfy you and what will actually pay for your debts/expenses hence the confusion. Right now Saturn is transiting your 10th house - so it will be difficult for you unless you really really work hard in whatever you are doing

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
How do you feel about film studies? It is a very difficult field to break into, but it would be a good use of Neptune in the 10th conjunct your MC. Otherwise, think about how to convey a fantasy world to an audience, whether through music or some other type of performance.
The key to your chart appears to be your sun/Mercury/Chiron in the 3rd house of communication. If you wish to work with "damaged" kids, something like speech therapy or special ed might work for you.
With Saturn opposite your sun, it might be easy for authority figures to make you feel you're not "good enough". Just thank them for sharing. But do learn Saturn's lesson's of resourcefulness, self-discipline, and patience.
My daughter has just finished 18 months of teaching English in Korea! She says, "Korea has been very good to me." Self-discipline and respect for authority are strong cultural traits in Korea--this might be a good place to work with your Saturn opposite sun placement. I hope you have a wonderful time there.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Yea, that's my query too actually. I got Neptune in the 10th house. If I was born anywhere except my country I was BORN for Theater but since dramatic arts wasnt possible with mine, I couldn't pursue it. I'm a doctor already but can't decide what to specialize in ahead. (Surgery/Radiology/Child specialist)
I also have an interest in becoming a spiritual leader/scholar but haven't started that role anywhere except in my head. dont see any signs of it either.
Would love to know mine too if possible. All confused here.
Love this post... going thru all the links .. Thanks.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
Thanks Waybread, although I have never considered film studies, I think it would be very interesting. If I can get into music I might be able to branch out into that area. Something to think about and work towards. I have always wanted to become an actress since I was young.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
For your career you also look at the planet ruling the sign on your 10th house cusp, which is Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius. It is in your 8th house as part of a Libra stellium. So think about 8th house careers, as well. Also think about what Neptune rules: negatively it is associated with alcohol and drugs, escapism, and illnesses that are hard to diagnose. Positively, it relates to cinema, the sea, and a healthy spirituality.

Neptune can cause confusion for sure. But it is a healiing and compassionate influence as well and many doctors have it.

Child psychology perhaps. The aspects are just not that strong one way or another. But I lean towards psychology in general for sure.
I think you could have been a film actress perhaps but there again we are what we are meant to be. That you are a doctor, you have chosen the wisest course.

I think that spiritual counselling is a good option and also legal matters. Secret, criminal investigations, forensics. Psychology and
involvement with foreign corporations and travel.

Re: Choosing a career with neptune in 10th house
With Mars and Neptune in 10th - Neptune (creativity) and Mars (assertion) - you could do well with being a 'leader' (Mars) in music (Neptune is creativity).
Child Psychology with Mars and Neptune in 10th does not seem quite right - to me personally but I could be wrong.
Neptune means no boundaries - meaning creativity if you use your talent right and you could have a career out of that. You don't want a routine in your career - you want something where there is no boundaries. Where you can express whatever you want at any given time.

Child psychology does sound interesting. Theatre always had my heart but yes, destiny has chosen us for a reason & we have to see where it is. Thanks.

I think I stay on the positive sides of both-Psychoanalysis & Spirituality are core-definitions for me. I have yet to see the 'bigger' destiny Saggi promises. Thanks!
