Planets & age

I recently discovered that aspects consider 'age' with certain planets for e.g: Mars-Jupiter aspect would become more prominent as an individual grows up (What I understand is Jupiter is the 'old' planet'). What planets go with youth & which ones present later in life? I would like any other details if someone can explain.

I was reading this earlier... relevant? http://www.sevenstarsastrology.com/a...ision-of-days/

In Vedic astrology, certain planets become more active in a persons life during certain time periods. They call it dasas.

Your chart might indicate you will be rich and famous, but the configuration needs to be activated under a dasa.

Re: Planets & age

Theoretically you are aware of your personal planets very early in life. You may not be able to articulate what you feel or need but you 'act it out.' The moon rules the mother and your instinct to go to the mother, and you use it right away. Mercury, of course, rules the mouth and you need to eat immediately after you are born. Venus is the desire planet and the minute you look at or reach for something NOT the mother, you are using your Venus. Mars rules activity and the way you "do" anything. These planets, and the Sun, rules physical parts of the body too, such as all brain activity and digestion and of course, the heart (The Sun.) All glandular function is ruled by the personal planets....so they rule both physical and behavioral energy.

I think you are talking about the outer planets, and when we "internalize" or "understand" what they are, as far as being "conscious" of when we are using that particular energy.
Jupiter usually kicks in at 12 or 13 and this is why in many religions there is a ceremony, such as "confirmation" at this time of a child's life. Jupiter rules religion (organized religion) and one's belief system.

Saturn is a planet that we can use long before we understand what it is and why we are acting in a certain way....such as controlling, building, putting up a defense or wall, being a "protector", etc. But at our Saturn return we are expected to be conscious of our mortality and realize that "today is the first day of the rest of my life" sort of thing. We are also expected to take full responsibility for our lives.

It gets trickier with Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
Some people get USED by these planets but never internalize consciously the meaning of the energy of them.
Uranus will act even without your conscious cooperation. Uranus is that which makes one individual from someone else.
Neptune is the planet of deception of all types, from the best to the worst.
Novacain is Neptunian and so is heroin.
Movies are Neptunian , as is most entertainment that is fictional (and it's good to have some fiction in your life,
but living your life in pretense like it was a movie is not really living it at all.

Using Neptune for spiritual purposes is good.... but Neptune also rules CULTS which are not good. You get the picture.

Pluto rules "the big bang of creation" - nuclear energy, and therefore can be positive or totally destructive.
I think you either "get" the meaning of Pluto naturally, by having it active in your chart in a conscious way, or you LEARN about Pluto through consciously wanting to learn about it. SEEKING Pluto and learning to utilize it positively.

Pluto rules SEX and MONEY. So, you see, that there is a great temptation to misuse the power of Pluto and most people go through life not really thinking about this.... just acting it out.
Each person gets to "know" the planetary energy in a unique way....or not.

But unconscious people are pretty easy to spot. They are the ones who won't fight fair....when you ask them about something they are doing that hurts you or others, they will either deny it or say, "well, that's just the way I am."
They don't care about a conscious examination of their character.

I will say it again: the unconscious do not examine their character. And they find no reason to evolve into someone "better."

I dont go along with that certain age aspects etc.

Saturn is the planet that matures us and causes us to grow, be responsible and get real.

Jupiter is the planet of higher learning and the getting of wisdom, yes but also how we use it, such as our ethics, philosophies and sense of faith. The prominence and influence comes from the progressions and transits hitting our natal planets which could be any. We are all different. The major outer planet transits that we all experience such as Pluto square Pluto is often called the midlife crisis but as we are living longer, we are no longer middle aged at 35 or so.

LIN
Informative. I was more thinking on lines of interpretations on Astro.com where for eg I have MercuryMars & it says "You have a sharp tongue especially when Younger(Mercury)."
It's 100% true. As I've grown older I can't seem to respond to ppl the way I did as a child- snap on sarcasm that people feared literally!
Similarly I read it for someone else having Mars Jupiter & it said "Hidden professional talents that will reveal as one grows older(Jupiter)."
I saw that coming through when the person passed 27yrs.

I think the outer planets make their presence known as we grow older but ofcourse the potential is there & is working throughout our lives.

Thanks!

I think that's the point I was missing out on! That could be an important reason for bringing it to front!
Thanks!

I just read that there is not such significance of the dasas but I will explore this region. Thanks!

I would say 'au contraire' but it's for everyone to explore astrology thoroughly and make up their own minds.

Re: Planets & age

This is very interesting, thank you for raising the topic! I have little knowledge on this.

I also have some Mercury aspects which brought this to my attention, Mercury conjunct MC and Mercury trine AC. The MC conjunction said that I would show certain abilities quite young and I did, I wonder where some of that has gone...I used to absorb certain info. especially facts so much easier and repeat them fluently at any time. I look back and think that was a little showy though, information and knowledge are different things. It said that natives of this aspects may or may not become intellectuals when older and it would prove very useful to practice debating in school. So there were several references to time there.

I started a Sun trine Saturn thread and someone mentioned that past our first Saturn return, we often become quite jolly people, it's a secret of the aspect.

I have read several references to Jupiter being prominent that one becomes more philosophical and wise with age.

I have Moon square Saturn and I read that we ease up with age. I can't tell you how much that's true. I was very defensive and sarcastic when younger, but now I aim for compassion, humanity and equality. I am aware of times when I become defensive and this awareness provides the chance to change which wasn't available when I was younger.

I agree that transits and progressions are the triggers. But I think there must be something to the aspects meaning something different as we age.

So nice to have someone agree!
My experience is the same, I JUST went over my Saturn return & realised how 'easy' it is to be myself instead of always controlling. So yes, there is truth in all the planets that you mentioned. Mercury for youth, Jupiter, Saturn & Pluto for age! Thanks.

If you are to be rich and famous then transits to the 10th house and hitting your planets there will trigger that. Along with perhaps influence to the 2nd house for personal income and assets and typically Jupiter is involved. If you are a famous performer than the 5th house is typically involved for artistic and creative expression. If you become rich and famous as a result of lottery win then the 5th and the 8th houses are involved.

I do agree that your first Saturn return will express differently to your second Saturn return for instance. If you are talking about outer planet transits as we get older then yes, they naturally affect us all along the way of life's path. The outer planets, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and Saturn trigger all our life's major changes and events. It is how we can predict future trends. Jupiter also to an extent. Mercury is a personal planet and typically a very fast planet and has little influence except perhaps fleetingly, when in transit. Same with Venus and the Moon, they are not long enough anywhere to have a profound influence.

LIN
Sooner or later the unconscious or the unaware will be awakened when they find that they are suffering and need to examine why. We have myriad lives to do just that and we are all at different levels of evolvement as seen by the contacts to the outer planets in our natal charts. Either challenging or easy.

Jupiter is not the old planet but is the getting of wisdom that comes with learning. Prominence with any of our planets when transits to the personal planets from the outer ones hit them and that happens all throughout life.

Because Mercury represents adolescence and basic learning does not mean it is more effective in those days. Where Mercury is in your chart will show what influence it has for you, throughout life. Your 3rd house will show what happens more in adolescence
for you and how it affects you but that is delineated from birth.

Mercury does not rule the mouth as such but the power of speech and communication so it is the larynx, the voice. The mouth/lips is ruled by Taurus Venus as it is the instrument of taste.
Venus is the planet of relationship and what we love and enjoy and who and what we attract, including money.
Mars is desire, libido and impulse.
All glandular function is not ruled by all the personal planets.
Pluto rules the sexual orgasm and shared assets including money.
Uranus is the upsetter of the status quo and the breaker of the rules that Saturn has set. It is the unconventional and not the norm.
Individual expression and Identity really belongs with our Sun.
Organised religion such as attending church really belongs to Neptune and the 12th house. Jupiter and 9th house show how we learn about faith and God and our own sense of faith and morality coming from that. Gurus who are the fount of all knowledge they say,
are typically Jupiterian and 9th house. It is the cult leader and the 12th house is where that cult is situated. Usually secret and
in a place of retreat.

You've definitely hit the nail on the head for me, I've Cancer rising with Moon in the 3rd of Virgo. The Moon only has two major aspects - opposition Venus (2 degrees sep) and square Saturn (2 deg app) and those two definitely dominated my early schooling, right up until about 16 when my life turned hugely for the better. Yes, yes, yes, you're right!

p.s. you know you're about to hit 5,000 posts?! (prepares party in the back)

Re: Planets & age

Wasn't there something (I think I read it somewhere a long time ago), where the houses rule a certain part of your life, before the next house is triggered.

E.g. The 1st rules your baby years, whereupon the 2nd takes the next role, and in which where we learn our sense of values. Then comes the 3rd, our schooling and education...etc. Which then restarts after we are 65, back to the 1st.

I'm guessing a 1st house Moon would play a prominent role in our first years, since both the first house and the moon rule the first years. Should a person have that aspect. Not saying that once that house has passed so has its meanings, but rather the prominence it plays. Then again we factor all of our charts meanings into a bundle in the end.

Then comes the Triplicity role, and the element ruling the first, second and third part of our lives (each spaced into 30 years or so). So much Trad. Astrology sometimes gives me a headache (not literally).

Yes, the transits are of course important in brining out the dormant planetary effects.

The outer planets, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and Saturn trigger all our life's major changes and events. It is how we can predict future trends. Jupiter also to an extent.
I think the outer planets become more PROMINENT as the changes get more apparent because as children we don't do much except eat, sleep, play & study but later become part of the planet itself.

Because Mercury represents adolescence and basic learning does not mean it is more effective in those days. Where Mercury is in your chart will show what influence it has for you, throughout life. Your 3rd house will show what happens more in adolescence
for you and how it affects you but that is delineated from birth.
That's what I meant regarding Jupiter.

I haven't come across this notion so far, but if you have more information , please inform me as well.

Claire said,
"Sooner or later the unconscious or the unaware will be awakened when they find that they are suffering and need to examine why."

OH....if only that were universally true!

BlackEmpress,

In youth, we use our personal planets by instinct....therefore the "sharp-tongue" comment .....
In youth there is instinct.
As we age we (hopefully) utilize and are 'thoughtful' about our actions. This is the ideal, tho not the average.

I'd rather keep my instincts forever! They work 10 times better than logic!

Re: Planets & age

Shakespeare has the last word on this idea of planets being associated with ages. Here is Jaques speech from As You Like It. Planetary associations in parenthesis

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. (Moon)
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel (Mercury)
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, (Venus)
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, (Mars)
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice, (Jupiter)
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon, (Saturn)
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

However, while planets may well be associated with these different ages of man, I don't think it means they are activated by you becoming a certain age. All the planets are all there in your chart right from the moment you're born.

In Vedic astrology, certain planets become more active in a persons life during certain time periods. They call it dasas.

Your chart might indicate you will be rich and famous, but the configuration needs to be activated under a dasa.

I think so! It does take time to active certain things. Degrees between two planets can determine time of activation? When the two planets conjunct at certain year the meaning of the planet reached it full energy?
