Imum Coeli in traditional astrology

What do you know about IC in trad.astrology?Modern astrology explanation doesn't really suit me and it seems modern ast.doesn't value that much the IC as the traditional does. Just how important Imum Coeli really is looking through the eyes of a traditional astrologer?Pretty please respond.This is my most dominant angle and I d love to hear more about it by someone who practices traditionalistic astrology. I'm no expert, however I can pass on some good advice from a reliable website

The astrological angles are the ascendant, midheaven (MC), descendant and lower midheaven (IC) and are the most potent and influential areas in any chart. Any planet that is in conjunction with an angle will have a marked influence that resonates throughout the chart and greatly colours its overall meaning.

Because of their primary importance the angles are often referred to as the 'cardinal points' and they relate directly to the cardinal directions east, south, west and north. The word 'cardinal' comes from the Latin cardo meaning 'hinge', indicating something of primary importance. Ancient astrologers viewed the cardinal points as the great axis that held the earth in position; thus Manilius, writing in the first century BC, asserts: "These points are charged with exceptional powers, and the influence they exert on fate is the greatest known to our science, because the celestial circle is totally held in position by them as by eternal supports."

Angular houses (sometimes called cardinal houses) are those that begin with the angles. When a planet is placed in an angular house, it is performing more powerfully. Whatever it represents will show its force in a swift and dynamic fashion. The angular houses represent our own 'seats of power', places of familiarity and control. The further the distance between a planet and the angles the less potency it possesses and the more alienation it experiences in its environment

Angular planets are powerful, so the people or matters that they signify are strong and attract a lot of attention. If representing a person, such a planet would indicate someone with the power to 'get things done'.

Hi,

I don't have a lot to add to the IC except that I found a person with Saturn conjunct the IC and believe me, it was very clear in his attitude in life and from his childhood! Wow! So if you do spot a planet near the IC...I don't know about aspects to the IC though.

If I can just insert one question, without moving far away, what about planets conjunct these angles if in their traditional sign of fall/detriment? E.g. Sun on IC in Libra, Venus on DC in Virgo? Is that an asset to the planet or big problem? Or do aspects add to this?

In general Sun in Aries or Sun in Leo on IC are potentially a greater asset than Sun in Libra on IC - however generalization is best avoided

For Sun Libra, the house and Sign position of Venus as well as whether Venus aspects is important
For Venus Virgo on DC, the house and Sign position of Mercury and whether Mercury aspects is important

Mutual Reception, mixed reception, decans, dwads and individual degrees - all are important modifying considerations

In what sign was the particular Saturn in this case that you referred to, on the IC? A Libra Saturn in its sign of Exaltation on IC and aspected by a strongly placed Venus may well be a greater asset than one might suppose
