Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

Thanks Waybread, I very much appreciated your work above and I'm sure I'll come back to it again and again as a reference point on this, I enjoyed reading and learning.

07 RE well spotted on the stats, very well spotted! I didn't notice, but of course, it's likely!

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

Apparently my north node is in this new sign, sorry but I'm not buying it. Anyway, if there is no weight and proof in this it won't become worldwide accepted.

Please ignore it. It is not valid.

This theory arises from time to time and is not based in reality.

First of all, it is not new.

13 Constellation Astrology was used thousands of years ago. My understanding is that Ophiuchus was then introduced in Astrology to honor Egypt's Imhoteps healing capabilities.

Wiki has good explanation of Constellations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_astrology). It has nothing to do with Vedic (just to minimize confusion), although, Fagans dates are very close to Vedic Constellations.

Walter Breg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Berg) again brought 13 Constellations in action, specially in Japan.

If 13 Constellations Astrology widely succeeds, we will have another parallel Astrological system, parallel to Western, Vedic (Jyotish). But it is not going to change or affect Western Astrology or Vedic (Jyotish) Astrology.

I agree. I don't mind Ophiuchus or if people would rather use the constellations. It's a romantic idea, but I've found that using the seasons for signs works well. I've even met an astrologer online who uses a, get this: 14-sign zodiac! Including another constellation the Sun will begin moving through soon (don't tell the media! They'll get confused again!)

Ophiuchus is interesting, but I've found Sag works well. Silly astrology newbies, 'sun-sign astrologers' and astronomers.

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

Yeah, I don't think anything about it. And thankfully, neither do the masses! They all seem quite particular in retaining "I AM A LEO!" "I AM A SCORPIO!". I don't think anyone's having it, but maybe it was fun for astrology to be headlined.

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

The most annoying thing about this "new zodiac" is that everyone is talking about it like its some new revelation or something. I mean, MSNBC reported on it, it must be true. Even Yahoo! has a page on it! There's no way all those astrologers are wrong!

One guy even told me I was an idiot when I explained he's still a gullible Libra. He ended his conversation with "I could be wrong..." as I walked away.

It's irritating me.

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

I predict that the astronomer who talked to NBC news and doesn't know what either NASA or astrologers do will end up with a television programme, thus making himself a tidy sum of cash and giving him his fifteen minutes of fame.

I also predict we'll have a flood of Ophiuchian (sp?) astrologers out there also raking in cash to tell the gullible all about their new sun sign, and possibly whole new charts. Maybe a few books to go with it. And astrology's reputation will get even blacker once the sensation dies down and folks realise they've been had.

That's basically how it played out when Ophiuchus was was revealed as a new zodiac sign by an astronomer in 1995 to prove astrology wrong, and things haven't changed all that much.

What I'd love is an explanation of the 'precision of the equinoxes'. That's what the NBC reporter called the phenomenon that led to this discovery, after all.

Never heard of it before. Should be interesting

And watch, everyone who is told all about their "new" sun sign, will think they are soooo special! They will make it like all that "indigo child" stuff that was going around a few years back. They will rake out the cash your speaking of to get told they are part of a highly evolved group that will manifest the gifts of a higher evolution and have some very important role to play in the up-coming ...whatever whatever ...

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

I dont buy it. And unless there will be a huge broadcasted program worldwide that tells about the official changing of the signs and that they will enlist it in every single astrology book there is and I get to see it with my own eyes....Nope.

Cappys the dominant sign in my chart. I stick to the oooold
And Id suggest people stop making topics about their charts using the Opichi what you call it. If it isnt certified, please dont go and make hippes about it in your chart,or ask about it when others interpret your chart. ITS NOT THERE.

Re: What does everyone think of the new zodiac?

Parke Kunkle,[maybe He should be called 'Karbunkle'] the 'Astronomer', whom is the latest 'front man' for this nonsense may be an 'educated man' but He is a simple fool.
The emanations of the principles/powers of that of the Zodiac is not governed by anything physical in this realm.
The constellations are merely 'bookmarks' applied to the understanding by the 'ancients' millenia ago.
We are in an 'imperfect' creation. Imperfect in that it only is a mirror of the 'World of Formation' the realm of the 'Archetypes'[as was identified by those very same 'ancients'.].
This is the same reason the reality of tonality in music is slightly imperfect. That's why 12 intervals of 5ths is slightly more than 7 octaves. This is known as the Pythagorean comma. It's why although we recognize geometric shapes in the objects that nature creates those objects are never perfect in a geometrical sense.
If you read my explanation of the application of the musical scale to the Zodiac you may be able to begin to grasp this concept.
The emanations of the principles of the Zodiac are from the 'World of Formation'...once one begins to realize this and attempts to understand it he is well on his way of the true journey of spiritual evolution.
It is the slight imperfection [that was made perfect...] that allows the evolutionary process...allowing this 'creation' to become something greater than itself [as it originally was].

More of this can be understood by all of you if you read Dane Rudhyar ...I particularly recommend his books, "The Astrology of Personality" and "Astrological Timing".

The author of this article is "Astrology Illiterate". equating Sidereal = Vedic. Vedic system is one of the systems following Sidereal approach and uses exact 30 degree division.

Western Astrology used by Fagan is also Sidereal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_Fagan), uses exact 30 degree division. 13 constellation Astrology with Ophiuchus also uses Sidereal, here the length of Constellation varies in degrees from 8 degrees to 45 degrees.

Interesting, this article generated so much public interest. This is stories like "In Einstein's lifetime, there were only three persons able to understand theory of relativity". Now many people understand theory of relativity. Many people took interest this time in this Astrological Systems. I heard many people asking "whether their Sun Sign has changed", asking "what Ophiuchus has to do in their chart". Many people strongly opposed it, many people became curious to understand it.

Some book publications covering Ophiuchus are:
~ The 13 Signs of the Zodiac by Walter Berg
~ The 13th Sign by Mary Francis Abbamonte
~ THE 13TH ZODIAC (OPHIUCHUS) AND THE GALACTIC SOLAR SYSTEM UNVEILED by Kwame Osei-Ghansah
~ Ophiuchus Or Serpentarius The Serpent Bearer And Serpens The Serpent by William Tyler Olcott

Oh, I know what precession is, ByJove. But that's not what the reporter said. He said it was because of the precision of the equinoxes. That's the one I want to hear about

Tropical is based on maximum distance Earth goes from Sun and Sidereal is based on with reference to sky. The tropical moves back about 0.51 seconds every year. So the point, where Earth reached maximum distance from Sun in 2010 will be again touched by Earth after 25800 years. Due to this factor right now there is a difference of about 24 degrees between Tropical Western Aries and Sidereal Vedic Aries. Every year, this difference increases by about 0.51 seconds.

This URL has very good animation: http://www.lunarplanner.com/siderealastrology.html

The author of the article is not fully educated about measurements of various Astrological systems and made several mistakes. The "because of the precision" is one of those mistakes.
