I was on youtube one day looking at astro vids, when I ran into this really interesting information about symbolism.

+ (cross of matter)
O (circle represents spirit)
) (semi-circle representing soul/reflection)
__ (horizontal indicating asleep/lying down)
| (vertical indicating awake)



examples for above :
soul and matter, but no spirit
matter, alot of soul, no spirit
matter, alot of soul, but little, detached spirit
spirit and matter, but no soul
mercury is the symbol of mankind. Its # is 5 which makes sense 'cause there are 5 senses. matter, spirit, and soul
