Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
Hi everyone...sorry for another wedding date question...but if anyone has any thoughts, I would really appreciate it. Good news is that we are ok with eloping and not concerned with the traditional familial obligations of timing when everyone can attend, but had hoped to be married by the end of this year, which doesn't leave much time left. We have been engaged for 1 year on August 6th and can't seem to move forward. He is having a Pluto opp. Venus, sq. Pluto, & Pluto conjunct Jupiter....probably not a good time to go forward with a marriage for him, true? Any insights? The two dates I had in mind seem to have some problems, but they are better than most. What do you think about marrying with a lot of Sag. energy? We both have a good amount of fire energy if that helps any. I like the Libra energy, but it opposes my NVenus.
My main question is regarding the new moon. How important is it if the moon is a few degrees away from being new? Also, if you are natally born at this phase, do you generally operate better during that same natal lunar phase? (Similar to one w/NMercury Rx, working better than most during a Mercury Rx cycle?) I wanted a new moon in Libra, but it seems that it would have to be nearly midnight to happen? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

You do NOT want to be married in the 'dark of the moon', right before the new moon. It is not a beneficial placement, and it is in fact when there is waning emotional energy, and anything born then is weakend emotionally.

Re: Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
The most thorough and ideal way to do an election chart is to get a year calendar and cross out eliminated days. I don't worry too much about aspect, instead I put emphasis on sign strength.
So, I then start eliminating days when:
*The personal planets are in detriment or fall.
*Mercury, Venus, or Mars are retrograde
*The Moon is void of course
When those days are crossed out, I start highlighting acceptable days.
Days when the Moon is either dignified in Cancer, or exalted in Taurus, and for the dates when Venus is dignified in either Taurus or Libra, or exalted in Pisces. Mutual reception with Venus in Cancer and Moon in Taurus is also good. Also, it is good to have the Moon waxing in light (going from new to full).
If you are left with any bad aspects, they can be dealt with to a certain extend by making sure that the Ascendant isn't ruled by one of the planets in bad aspect.
If you have lots of time to plan, this method can actually find you a good wedding date.

Re: Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
There's actually an entire section on wedding charts here and it's much more involved than just looking for sign strength since what you're drawing up is an entire chart, which means attention must be paid to the timing (as in hourly) of the chart and not simply the day.
The article is a bit involved, so if you get confused about anything, then please feel free to ask it here or PM me and I'll help you figure it all out. I've done a few marriage charts (the couples are all still married as far as I know, if that makes you feel more comfortable, hehe) in the past, and they are crazy time-consuming.

Re: Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
Hi can you post your natal chart and let us know what date you two met?
I just a look at his progressions and there dont seem to be any marriage progressions going on for him??? Im just learning though.
I have something around the age of 26-28 for him? Did you meet then or was he married before?
Are you 100% you are getting married, your post doesnt sound 100% about it?

To do a thorough job, one would need to first take a broad scope approach and eliminate inappropriate days. Then, focus down to the hourly on an appropriate day.
As I said, I'm of the school of thought that sign strength trumps aspects. So in other words, I would much rather have, for example, Venus in Taurus semi-square a waxing Moon in Cancer than Venus in Aries trine waning Moon in Sag.
Realistically, the couple are probably going to have a range of hours in mind, like late morning or early afternoon. They may want a 1:00 wedding, but the "best time" for that day may be at 8pm. To minimize that issue, having sign strength to fall back on is critical.
The best wedding electional info I've ever read was from Robert Blaschke's Relationship Analysis book. He uses the elimination method that starts broad and then focuses down.

Aspectual relationship wasn't something I was particularly considering when I responded to your post.

Hehe, well, that is debatable considering the semi-square is debatable, but I understand what you say. Even, then, though there's still way too much to be considered. I'd be willing to take that detrimented Venus's trine to the Moon depending on the shape of Mars and what other aspects Venus makes.
It also doesn't take into effect houses and who signifies who or what, which makes the whole thing infinitely more enjoyable. Not...-.-'

I've never heard of that author, but the notes I have come from that site and Vivian Robson's Electional Astrology.

Here is my natal chart. We met approx. August 2003...but don't know the exact date, as we crossed paths many times that year before dating. He was married once before, and probably around that time, so you are correct. Sorry, a little short on time, but will be back later tonight.

Re: Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
Thanks everyone for your responses. I've been reading up on the subject and found myself going in circles, but at least they are not the tangled spirals I was going in before! My biggest confusion was regarding the importance of moon cycles. I think I now have a better grip on it, and a better understanding of Venus as well. If anyone has a good recommendation on books related to understanding the moon cycles better, I would appreciate it. Thanks again!

Re: Choosing a Wedding Date...is it impossible?
Hello all
this is by far the best book I have come across on electional astrology - it has an entire chapter on wedding charts: Electional Astrology the Art of Timing - author J. Hampar - publisher Llewellyn Worldwide
good luck
