North Node - Iconoclast?

"Iconoclasts" - a term applied figuratively to any individual who challenges established dogma or conventions.

The NN has been seen by vedic astrologers as an alien/foreign/unconventional/wierd/iconoclastic influence when it is prominent in the horoscope.

The NN is where the moon passes from the south latitude to the north latitude of its ecliptic. So this could call for a new way of looking at things, a new way of thinking about things, of becoming more progressive in your views, and thus paving the way for society (who might be shocked initially) to progress. This is necessary for mankind to evolve, grow, progress and move ahead towards a better way of life. It brings about a rennaissance - else we would still be stuck in the dark ages.

The South Node is where the moon passes from the north to south latitude in its ecliptic. So this would mean taking the new knowledge shown by the NN and integrating it with our current/existing/old knowledge (which can also be full of wisdom). Thus the NN and SN cycle would keep us fresh by constantly churning our thinking between old and new. Our moon functions, i.e. feelings, emotions, our basic habits, unconscious, instinctive reactions, etc would not be allowed to stagnate.

What is your PERSONAL experience of the NN-SN axis? Is it prominent in your chart? Have you found new (maybe unconventional or wierd) ways of thinking and feeling where your NN is posited? Or does this influence come from outside, externally, in the form of wierd things happening - that force you to look at matters in a new way.

My NN is conjunct my jupiter in the 7th - and my thinking about religion, faith, philosophy, spirituality, rituals, etc is very different from that of my family and community. As a child I did unconsciously absorb my family's jupiterian values - but then things happened in my life to radically change my views. I see this as the NN influence.

Re: North Node - Iconoclast?

Yes, I would say so.

Rahu is very interesting to me, and plays a huge part in my chart. I'm not so bothered about Ketu, naturally

I have Rahu Vargotamma associating with Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon in Leo (10th).

I've always been... an individualist, very weird. Always doing my own thing, and **** what the crowd cares about. Lots of mental/emotional difficulties, sensory issues, and concentration problems. I thought I had Asperger's syndrome and ADHD, but who knows. I doubt the former now... I'm just strange. ;-)

Rahu period was very difficult. But also very liberating. I had a 'mental' breakdown basically.

I quit my job and spent all my time looking for ways to be self sufficient and free from the burdens of society. I fell for Buddhism and meditation hard, and that gave me some necessary grounding in the madness. Did a bunch of self healing/demon expulsion. I also became very absorbed in conspiracy theories during that period, and also got magic, herbalism dreamwork, lucid dreaming and out of body experiences.

Eventually I started reading Tarot, and that led to astrology. Astrology has been my major interest during the Rahu/Jupiter period I find myself in now.

Thanks Moog

Yes I have read that rahu is considered to have such influences in vedic astrology - especially when conjunct the moon. I guess that is how rahu makes you think about life in a new way - which is not really a bad thing. Only very traditional conservative societies would view any type of new thinking in a negative way. It made you change your view of your philosophies (jupiter), limitations (saturn) and your career/aspirations/ambitions (10th). I guess that can be said for any planet - they all bring about some kind of growth and change - though not quite in the way that rahu does. I think its awesome that you got to experience all those things - I would love an out of body experience. Such rahu people have been paving the way for society to become more accepting of a spiritual way of living.

Maybe the rahu ketu axis is just the area of life where we will be directed to change in this particular lifetime. I believe in this quote:

Earth is a school for learning duality and understanding “opposites,” which helps you fast track your spiritual growth. Reincarnation and freewill are the tools for this spiritual growth. For every fantastic lifetime of love, joy, and happiness, there has been an equally strong and negative emotional experience of devastation, hardship, pain, and suffering. "

In the previous lifetime we probably focussed on the house where ketu is placed. So this time maybe we are going to experience the "opposite" of the duality - where rahu is placed.

Re: North Node - Iconoclast?

NN in 7th in taurus 10 degrees. sextile moon/merc and venus. not exact sextile though.

Im definitely a misfit within my family. but isnt everyone who posts on this board.

I have been secretly cultivating a group of taureans born around 10 degrees(sun). 4 so far. Well they are risk adverse and very security financially conscious. They are loyal but not sure that I would like to be any of them. These are city dwelling taureans.

I think possibly it is living a more earthy existance - environmentally friendly, sustainable and peaceful lifestyle.
