Business or Law or Science (Vet, Medicine, or Research)? PLEASE HELP.
I can't make a decision whether to continue with my Law degree or switching to a Science Degree.
I've done a Business (Law) mixed degree, and now I have to make a choice whether to go on with Law, or go Science...which could open up related careers like Vet, Medicine, Research...etc.
My initial thread's been moved to Greenhorn's Lounge for the lack of astrological interpretation. So here I'll give some of my thoughts on my own chart...
Attached is my chart from astro.com. I'm born in the Scorpio-Sagi Cusp.
Sun in Sagittarius...a yearning for knowledge and philosophical understanding. It's said that it's good for law, but I feel that it could be good for Science too coz it involves a lot of knowledge seeking and the application of it. But at the same time I'm rather uninhibited, so I really hate having to sit through the day in an office doing paperwork and reading long cases, and I DON'T feel comfortable being in a suit at ALL. However, I do am attracted by the relative mobility and diversity of being in the Business field...I'm really feeling torn apart.
Moon in Leo...yes, I like the arts and the more artistic and dramatic part of life. I wanna feel that I'm REALLY connected to what I work as and for, that I'm not just working for the money. I wanna feel passion for what I do- THAT's what makes me so hard to make a decision coz I'm afraid I'd make a choice I'm gonna regret and end up doing something I don't feel for or identify with.
Mercury in Scorpio...my mind enjoys detective work and finding out what's really making the world go around. At the same time I'm the more discrete type, and I tend to dwell on my thoughts before speaking them out; and if I do speak out, I have to make sure my arguments are well-thought- perhaps influenced by my Leo moon for the urge to be right and recognised. This position in Venus is what makes me feel more in tune with Science related careers, e.g. being a vet/ doctor. I've also considered doing Criminology after Law- but again, perhaps due to my Sun and Moon positions in the Fire, I feel that it might be too dark and too restricting for my taste.
Ascending in Taurus...I'm not sure what to make of this one other than that I do wanna hv material stability from my career.
Venus in Scorpio, Mars in Aquarius...It's said that my Mars position has a very dominant "Reformer streak", and I'm likely to be drawn to Scientific pursuits and humanitarian project. I feel that I'm more on the original side, and there's generally a yearning for being original and able to express my views and thoughts instead of having to follow certain rules. Maybe that's why I don't feel comfortable studying Law.
Please, let me know what you think! I really need some help and I have to decide very, very soon...

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Hello Evinchow, well Science is also 9th house, Sagittarius and Jupiter, like Law. The rulership book of Rex.Bills also gives Uranus and Aquarius and between brackets Mercury, Virgo, Gemini and Saturn).
I see you have Capricorn on the MC, ruler Saturn in Sagittarius in the 8th. This to me looks like Scientific Research (8th house).
Saturn trines your Moon in Leo in the 4th, maybe indicating that you like to work in privacy but it also shows that you want to do something in accordance with your emotional set-up, it must feel good to you and I think research will feel good.
Moon is ruled by the Sun and Sun again is in Sagittarius and Sun is within 5° from the 8th house, so again an indication of research I would say. Research also gives you the opportunity to be on your own more so than to be engaged in a big group, something i think is not really your cup of tea. (Sun square Mars in 11)You feel a bit different from others maybe with Uranus trine Moon and prefer people who are interested in the same things you like.
Indeed, Venus in Scorpio also shows "love for the deeper things in life" and the conjunction with Pluto makes it even stronger.
Yes, I think you should choose the scientific route.
Hope this helps

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Thanks StarLink for your interpretations!
It's really hard for me to decide coz here where I live (Hong Kong), the culture is very commercial, and law is thought to be a prestigious degree, whereas the local government doesn't care about the local science scene. But I know I don't wanna be stuck here for a large portion of my life either. My parents really want me to continue with Law, but I'm just not so sure if I can do well and be fulfilled.
From my chart, how, in your opinion, may I possibly find my niche if I continue studying Law? If I not be a lawyer, what other choices would be suitable for me?
Also, I read a lot about Houses from other people in this section of the forum. Like several planets in 7th house= lots of energy there= suitable for some 7th-House careers...etc. Frankly I don't know anything about Houses. Could you demonstrate how they may be interpreted from my Chart?
Thank you!

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Hi evelyn,
I agree with Starlink that Science seems to be good for you, as in it could be what you really want. But it isnt true that Science can open up fields in Medicine or Vet. Those are Medicine fields. Science allows you to go onto research, which is a very different kind of job and you really have to try out to know if you would enjoy it. It could lead you to fields in Forensics or Pharmacy too, so I think you gotta know what you like exactly. I guess in HK, Law and business are the more important areas.
I'm not sure too about the several planets in houses thing, but I personally have 4 planets in 8th house, and I am majoring in Chemistry. But in fact I'm starting to find research/Science tiring and not what i really want (although my interests are very varied and I duno what i really want :P).
I guess that dint really helped much, hee, just my two cents.

Thanks for your comment, IceStar.
Should I take the Science degree, I can apply, after a couple of semesters, to Vet or Medicine with good enough academic results. So I think these are also careers open to me...
Sigh. Dunno...really confused.
IceStar, what are the other positions and aspects of your chart? Why don't you post ur chart and see what others have to say too

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Evinchow, we have given some thoughts about your chart but in the end it is really up to you. We cannot make a decision for you. I have a feeling you want Science, but your parents and the HongKong lifestyle is prefering Law.
Either you do what they want, or what your heart desires. Personally I would never do something I dont really like doing. You will never be happy.

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Also, I read from somewhere that:
"When Eighth House influences in a horoscope are positive, the possibilities for regenerative and growth producing life situations are very present. In terms of the Tenth House, such positive placements give a person a tremendous boost where worldly standing and career are concerned. Look for such indications as the ruler of the Tenth in trine or sextile to the ruler of the Eighth or to Saturn, Pluto or the Sun to result in success. Such aspects also indicate that help comes in one’s career through established and powerful figures. On the other hand, achievements are blocked and/or the road to worldly status and acclaim is thwarted if Saturn, Pluto or the Sun afflict the Tenth House ruler in this position or one of these planets is itself the ruler and afflicted."
What does the text in bold mean? What is trine or sextile to the ruler of the eighth or to saturn...etc.? What does it mean by "if Saturn, Pluto or the Sun afflict the Tenth House ruler...or when one of these planets is itself the ruler and afflicted"?

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
Your chart does not look promising for medicine. The 6th house rules medicine, and, using the signs as houses system, this is Libra ruled by Venus. Although angular, Venus is in detriment and retrograde. This just is not good for a career ruler.
The significators that you should be looking at are Mercury and Jupiter. Mercury is the triplicity ruler of your career, and it covers business in general. In addition, Mercury has a trine aspect to Jupiter in the same degree. This is a strong and favorable aspect, and Jupiter is very strong being in its own house and sign. Jupiter is the planetary ruler of law and narrows down your career indications.
Examining the second house shows that this career will be financially rewarding even if not entirely enjoyable. Still remember the choice is up to you.

Thanks Culpeper, it's encouraging what you're saying coz as I read this I've made the choice to continue down this business/law path. Just curious though, how does the 2nd House shows this career (meaning business/ law? or both?) will be financially rewarding? And do you mean that it shows that it's not entirely enjoyable?

Evinchow, every house has a houseruler. The cusp of each house falls into a sign. If the cusp falls in the sign Aries, then Mars rules that house. If the cusp falls in the sign Libra, then Venus rules that house.
In your chart the cusp (beginning point) of the 10th house falls in the sign of Capricorn, and because Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, your 10th house ruler is Saturn.
Now if Saturn, who rules over your 10th house of career would have made a trine aspect (120°) or a sextile (60°) to the ruler of the 8th house, which in your case is Jupiter, because the cusp of the 8th house falls in the sign of Sagittarius, then you could expect that

Trines and sextiles are positive aspects.
In your chart however, your 10th house ruler Saturn is afflicted by Jupiter. They are in square aspect (90°) to one another. The 10th house ruler makes a square aspect with the 8th house ruler, so in this case you will have difficulties to overcome before you can boost your career and reach a worldly standard.
Square aspects and oppositions show difficulties and ask for adjustments to be made.

Thanks Starlink. I googled and my questions were kinda answered, but you explained it clearer
But I tried to search online for how this affliction affects me, i.e. what are the difficulties that I need to overcome, the adjustments that I have to make, and can't find anything...

Re: Business or Law or Science? PLEASE HELP.
I thougth I'd apply the midheaven extension technique to your chart.
Saturn is on the midheaven.
Saturn (Business Administration) is in Sagitarius (law) in the 8th house (research).
Jupiter is in pisces in the 11th house(science???).
Neptune is in capricorn (Business Administration) in the 9th house(law).
Which takes us back to saturn in sag in the 8th house.
I know that the 9th house represents law, but I'm not sure if sag does in and of itself. If I'm mistaken in this assumption, someone please let me know. I see both research, science and law in your MH extension, but I see a little bit more of law.

It could be partly relevant. This Saturn square Jupiter aspect is explained in a cookbook form, not taking into account your whole chart. It is a general interpretation of this aspect which will or will not ring true, depending on your chart. AS you can see, the 8th house is not described here. A Jupiter coming from an 8th house works out differently as when he rules the 4th house and so on. Basically Saturn shows restriction and Jupiter expansion, so if you find a square between them, you struggle to overcome the Saturnal limitations put on you, in order to find the expansion in the area indicated by Jupiter. Jupiter rules 8, so Saturn prohibits (or makes it difficult) to go deeper into the 8th house matters. This could mean that you subconsciously feel that deep inner problems (maybe resulting from childhood) need to come to the surface so you can deal with it, but fear (Saturn) is stopping you from doing that (it is very difficult for you to overcome your fear). This can interfere with your career (Saturn) and the expansion you would like to see in that field.
