When to play the lottery?

If an election chart can be done for the best time to play the lottery, is the important time 1) when you buy the ticket or 2) when the winners are picked?
Does anyone have any experience with trying this out?

I have been playing around with this kind of thinking also. But what I do is when I see the time when the numbers are drawn. Then I see how this is reflected on the 2nd house on the chart. If I see that nothing is applying to the 2nd house planet at the time of the numbers to be drawn, I usually wouldn't buy a ticket. Of course I also find it benefitial when you see planets in your natal 5th house at the time of drawings. I've eperienced lotto wins and slot machine wins when this happens.
Maybe others have a diffenrent trick at doing this.

Yes... this is why, because at that time it will show who is going to make the money. So you want yourself to be receiving the money. That is why I say use the 2nd H.
In games (such as football or basketball) you would see who is going to win this game? Sort of who is going to win the money? And this would be at the end of the game. There are several different ways to interpret a chart in showing this. Planets placements, Moon and who it last applied or conjunct with. It takes some practice until it jells together.
Good luck

So, at the draw time check the 2nd house aspects in the general chart, and secondarily see if something is effecting your 5th house?
Thinking about it, in effect not every drawing has a winner, which would happen only when the 2nd is favorable. Makes sense.
Then, would there be a "lucky" day for you (or for me) when your 5th house is well aspected? If so, you would only win at a time when the 2nd is also triggered?

Elena, I think one has to realize that if enough people used astrology or some other reliable divination method to buy lottery tickets, they couldn't all possibly win. The people who disproportionately win lottery tickets in Canada, where I live, turn out to be the employees or shop owners who sell lottery tickets. This isn't astrology, so much as a crime of opportunity.

You probably should consider your natal horoscope to see how lucky you are likely to be. Gambling is a 5th house matter. Look at the condition of any planets in your 5th house, and then also the placement of the planet that rules the sign on your house cusp, by its house position and aspects. For example, if the sign on the cusp of your 5th house is Capricorn and you have Saturn in the 12th "house of self undoing" being squared by Mars, chances are you will not make a good gambler.

You can also use a "turned chart" or "derived house" method. Earnings from gambling would be a 6th house matter, as the 6th is the 2nd (money) house from the 5th. If your 6th house ruler or any planets in the 6th are not in such great shape, you are better off saving the money you might otherwise spend on the lottery. Losses from gambling, then, are a 4th house matter as the 4th house is the 12th house ("self--undoing") from the 5th.

Unfortunately, many people who get sudden financial windfalls like winning the lottery have not developed good personal money-management skills, and the money quickly gets away from them. So also, take a look at your 2nd and 8th houses, to see whether winning the lottery is likely to benefit you in the long term.

As a matter of fact, strangely enough a disproportionate amount of lottery winners here in Italy happen to be in Naples. If you know anything about Italy that may ring a bell. It may be because they wear the "horn" which brings luck, or because they use the dreams/numbers systems. Do you think? Also, winners there have been known to receive visitors at the house to persuade them to give up the ticket in exchange for some safe cash.
So, I can understand what you are saying about the situation in your country.
I should also explain that I am not at all a gambler. Mine is more curiosity.
For some reason though I had an intuition that I could possibly win one of the new lotteries that has started here. I've played a few times, won twice, an amount which paid the cost of the ticket.
Anyway, my 5th cusp in Sag is ruled by jupiter in my 3rd, currently progressed to the cusp of my progressed 2nd. Mercury in my 5th is retrograde and also in my 3rd. (yes, I am a publisher/editor/writer).
Leo rules my natal Asc and 2nd, my natal sun separates from a saturn trine and is void. (In fact, money matters are always the last thing on my mind).
The current jupiter/uranus positions have been making a grand trine to my sun/saturn trine.
Your analysis is very thought provoking.
I'm posting my natal and progressed charts, which I think will make you chuckle considering your comment about saturn ruler 6th in the 12th.
Thanks for the help. Any further insights?

I agree with Waybread on the gambling issues. Your chart and mine are simular. I'm a Leo riser so yes my my 5th H is also Sag. My natal Jupiter is in the 3rd not far from Spica and my NN is actually on Spica. (Yea I like to write.) Saturn is retro in my 5th H. But I still like to buy a ticket and see what happens.

Now in mentioning all of what we have said, you don't have to just play lotteries. You can dive in the markets. But again it will more than likely be the 'triggers' that are 2nd and 5th H signs and planets. Yes... see how they reflect to your natal chart. You might do well.

We can obviously relate, coming from a similar natal positioning. What a coincidence!
Isn't the market considered differently from the lottery? Or is it the same if you are trying to make a winning on one stock?
Gambling as opposed to investing.
Your saturn is retro in the 5th, while mine is retro also, but in the 12th. And is ruler of the 6th of gambling earnings, (2nd of the 5th).
On another thread about investments, there was a helpful reply that said to check the ruler of the 2nd, if it is in mutual reception with a fortune (sun, moon, venus, jupiter) the result could be very good.

Gambling as opposed to investing.

Investment is speculation, which is what gambling is.

You can cast Horary Charts if your Natal Chart says that you can earn income using divination techniques. If your Natal Chart doesn't say that, you can't.

As far as lottery and investments, your Natal Chart has to say that you can earn an income or benefit/profit from gambling or from investments. If your Natal Chart doesn't say you can, then you cannot.

That doesn't mean that you will never win the lottery or never profit from investments, it just means you will never win anything more than insignificant amounts. You might actually gain back all that you lost playing, or maybe not, or maybe you come out slightly ahead but nothing that would significantly impact your life.

You can use Electional Charts to increase your chances or odds of winning, but the Electional Chart itself won't actually guarantee a win.

If you're looking for a big win, the best thing to do is use Primary Directions and direct your Lot of Fortune to Jupiter, the MC or 2nd House Ruler or Direct them to the Lot of Fortune. You're essentially looking for trines, and you'd want to see the directed point (Lot, Jupiter, 2nd House Ruler) in the Term of a Benefic or in the Term of the 2nd House Ruler. The you could direct the Ascendant as well, and maybe the New Moon before birth if it is a Day Chart or the Full Moon before birth if it is a Night Chart.

In an Electional Chart you'd want to see the 2nd House Ruler Angular, Direct, in the proper Sect (by House/Quarter/Sign) hopefully in trine or sextile with a Benefic, the 2nd House Ruler in the Terms of a Benefic or the Ascendant Ruler, and I'd use the Lot of Fortune and Lot of Jupiter and the condition of their dispositors. The stronger they are the more likely you'll be successful. You might actually win a couple thousand Euros.

Elena, your 5th house looks like a mixed bag to me. Since the traditional vs. modern astrology debate has become such a hot topic on some other threads, I will say that I am a modern astrologer, but I give due credit to traditional astrologers who do excellent work.

The ruler of your 5th house is Jupiter, so that looks good. But it squares Pluto and conjuncts Chiron, which looks bad. Also, your Mercury in the 5th is part of a Thor's Hammer, which is a very volatile and stressful formation, occuring when two planets square each other and form a sesqui-square to a third planet. Mercury is also opposed by Uranus. I would read this combo as indicating some good fortune, but subject to sudden and possibly serious reverses.

The thing about investments is that it depends upon what type they are. Some are conservative and about as safe as you can get. These days, they generally have a miniscule rate of interest, but they might just still be there for you when you need to draw on them. These belong in the 8th house, along with inheritances and money that would be considered a joint asset of a marriage.

Other investments are highly speculative and risky--with higher potential earnings but also a higher risk of loss. These might be 5th house territory, especially if the investor perceives them more in a recreational sense. So far as I can make out, gambling belongs in the 5th as a house relating to enjoyable leisure pursuits, so Las Vegas slot machines, yes; your retirement portfolio, no.

And then, your own money is a 2nd house matter, but these days not too many people put substantial sums under the mattress. If you put it in your checking account, the bank can still loan it out to someone else.

Frankly, I think the best thing people can do is to learn basic skills of how to manage the money they have. Too many people either earn good money, get an inheritance, or win the lottery, but the money gets away from them because they are clueless about personal finance basics.

Your chart shows someone who could make some money gambling. Jupiter rules the 5th house and has some essential dignity. The Lot of Fortune is an important consideration for this. It is the lot of the Moon which is in exaltation and it is in Pisces.

I do not participate in gaming as my chart does not support that kind of activity; however, I have done very well with investiments which are similar. A gambler I know explained how to come out ahead. Start with a specific amount of money or chips. Keep any winings separate from this. Make minimum bets. If you start to win, gradually increase your bets. When luck turns against you, go back to the minimum again. When your starting capital runs out, stop, count your winnings which will give your profit or lose, record this and go home. Occasionally you may do exceptionally well, but you have to know how to hold onto this. I will add that this gambler is a member of the R.C. church and will have nothing to do with astrology.

Electional charts are most useful for investing in things like stocks. The chart is cast for the time when the purchase is to made. If a favorable chart cannot be found, do not buy the shares. Then the chart must be saved since you can use it to know when to sell.
The usual rules apply. Have a strong ascendant. The Moon must be strong and active, and especially the Lot of Fortune should be in a favorable sign and house. The 5th house is also important. I know more about astrology than stocks, but I have made money with this system.

Well, these three replies certainly give a lot to chew on. Thank you all.
Bob, when you say "lot" is that the same as "part"? Also, primary direction? I've never heard of this. Also, directing the new or full moon before birth. These are all new to me. What is this all about?
It's an important point you make that, if something isn't in your natal chart, it won't happen.
waybread, when you say jupiter is square pluto are you referring to transits? My natal jupiter is sextile natal pluto, not squared. Also, could you go into the idea of the Thor's hammer a bit more? Which are the planets involved in this formation?
Culpeper, in line with what your friend says, a friend recently opened a small slot-machine game room (not sure the name of this), and he tells stories of his customers who come in and stay a day playing and putting back their earnings, and when it's all summed up at the end, they've lost. We talked about it in a pizzeria, where before the meal he plunked down don't know how much playing at the machines in the bar area. Lost all of course. (He is not legally permitted to play on his own machines). He explained that there is a given percentage of plays any machine will have, and that once a win has been made that same machine will not give a winner for x-time. This seems to take all the speculation and risk out of it.
Anyway, you also refer to "lot", as does Bob. What is the "lot of the moon"?
So much to learn from all of you. Thanks

Eek, sorry about Jupiter square Pluto--my mistake. But--you have Jupiter square Saturn. Saturn is in the 12th house and he doesn't look like a happy camper.

A Thor's Hammer occurs when two planets square one another (your moon and Mars), and they both have sesqui-square aspects to a third planet (your Mercury), creating a triangle shape. It is a very stressful, dynamic aspect, and then you also have Uranus opposite Mercury in the mix.

Anyway, you might just want to put small sums of money on the lottery or the slots at your nearest casino, and then report back to us!

Carol Rushman did a study on lottery winners and found that most of them had a Venus/Jupiter aspect natally. She went on to say that since she didn't have that aspect, she stopped playing the lottery as it wasn't "promised in her chart".

Yes, venus of money aspecting jupiter should do well in the lottery and otherwise I would imagine.
Don't think I would be interested in breaking the bank. Programming the right moment to play is one thing, going into the program to play with loaded dice is quite another.
Going back to my natal chart, the jupiter/saturn square is in a formative tension, with mutual reception. Also, saturn rules the 6th, which is proceeds from the 5th.
I always considered the moon/mars square as a wide t-square with venus.
Interesting that you pulled in mercury, which for me has always been very active.

You guys can put your progressions onto the natal chart which is really where they belong....

You have Jupiter ruling your 5th house and trining Uranus which can suggest group involvements. But it is not strong. Mercury in the 5th is also not strong although it trines Pluto in Leo in the 1st.Again not strong.....

Although I agree that the promise is in the natal chart always and most of us will never win no matter what and can save money for other things. I dont agree with the Venus Jupiter aspect necessarily. I have won monies in the lottery and Venus and Jupiter are in the 8th of shared assets but not in aspect...... I have Saturn in Leo as well which means only limited wins. I have also lost on speculative matters as well as winning. My fortunes are mixed and depend on the transits.

Without 5th house planets as well as connections to the 8th house, there will not be major wins with gambling and speculation...
The 2nd house for personal income and assets is often the back up.

When I started playing lottery..
I check my 2nd 6th 5th 8th 11th...8th for hidden money, 11th for gains.
5th & 6th is important...
Mine 5th lord is Jupiter in 8th house...Jupiter mean Thursday.
I choose results day should be on Thursday...
It take 7 weeks to check which is best day to buy a ticket..
I start with sunday monday ...so on
I got 3 best days to buy a ticket & result on Thursday...
After that I check when my moon & sun is good...buy ticket in day or night time.
Like this I never paid nothing from my pocket nor I won big amount.
