Don't forget about the Sun's placement. It is currently in Scorpio. Scorpio's ruling planets are Mars and Pluto. Also Merc was at the cazimi or near degree if the Sun and both tragic events happened around the early afternoon hour of 1:30.
This has my interest, I will go back and look again at the placements.
