The entire premise is littered with holes and broad generalisations, which renders the entire argument null and void. Sorry, although I agree about consumerist society. You can't sum up 6 billion of us in four categories of thinking/feeling patterns, however.

1000 years ago they didn't experience boredom? How do you know? Because literature from 1000 years ago doesn't mention it? And which literature do you mean? Vedic? Anglo-Saxon? Arabic? Greek? Because it's not mentioned, does that mean it didn't exist? I really, REALLY have my doubts about this argument.

I'm tempted to mention the old chestnut about a tree in the forest and does it make a sound if no-one's around to hear it...
