I am no expert either, but this is still a love horary so I would use the Sun, ruler of the 7th, as his significator. Any planets found in the 7th are his co-significator so that would be Venus.

A friend/distant relative's Mars opposes my Pluto. It also falls on my North Node. Our relationship is emotionally intense to begin with as our moons are conjunct, but I think Mars/Pluto amps it up...
