Hi all,
I notice that when making a chart on AstroDienst, that there is a list of 'additional objects' that can be selected for display in the chart such as the Part of Fortune or Vertex for example. It irritates me that Chiron is listed beneath 'additional objects', yet it appears whether you have selected it or not. What is the point of having it listed as an optional addition if it appears automatically anyway?
Does anyone know how to make it so that pesky Chiron does not appear in the charts?
Actually, does anyone know how to send an e-mail to the people at AstroDienst? I think that for a free service AstroDienst is totally wonderful, but the I find the Chiron thing a real nuisance :?

Only a Virgo would ask such a question
But I understand, this has also been bothering me for some time now...I blame my south node 8)

Hey Draco
It seems all charts contain Chi by default, whether you chose it in the options field or not. Perhaps it appears to help heal the pain of not having the choice in the first place :P
You can send a message to the Astrodienst 'big brother' by going to the 'feedback' link (at the top near the 'my astro' icon), then select the 'write feedback' option in the panel to the left of your screen.
Cheers

Hi you two,

Ha ha! I'm sure! :?

I know, which is why it causes me to wonder why it is displayed as an additional option in the first place. :? ???

I know I have discovered this and sent them an e-mail. Apparently the Swiss are a Virgoan people, so perhaps they'll be sympathetic towards my nit-picking.

Hi you two,
Just to let you both know, as I suspect you aren't Chiron enthusiasts either, that I received a response from AD admin, and they told me that it depends on what style of chart you select.
For some styles of Chart, Chiron is selectable, for others it is automatic.
I like the Liz Greene style charts, because they are nice, clean and simple black and white (yes, I'm such a Virgo :? ). Chiron however is compulsory apparently, which is a shame.
Other charts such as the Classic, for example, do not display Chiron unless you select it. So if you don't want Chiron imposing on your charts, you'll have to have a search through all the chart options until you find one that doesn't display it that you like.
I must admit though that most of the charts that do not display Chiron automatically are quite yukky and not to my taste. Some will only display in the equal house system. :(
I decided upon the Kundig chart, nice, simple, black and white with the aspects illustrated around the edges, using only major aspects, soft in green, hard in red, making the tangle of criss-cross lines across the centre unecessary, again keeping everything nice and clean. What's better - no Chiron!!!
Astro D is such a wonderful service, and I know it's free which I am very grateful for, but surely it would be fairer to allow Chiron (or any planet) to be deletable in any chart? It's automatic inclusion must be a source of confusion for beginner's, many of whom probably rely on AD. Oh well!
I notice also that only the NN is illustrated. I know that its very obvious that the SN is directly opposite, but I would still like to see it there just to make everything more organised and harmonious in appearance. The SN should be there even if only to make the charts more aesthetically correct.
(my Sun's ruler Mercury in Libra perhaps? :? )
Anyway, I've had my whinge. If you don't like Chiron, you'll have to switch chart styles (probably to a less satisfactory one).

Draco
That is a Virgoan post if ever I saw one! :P
Thanks for the info. Can I have some of your attention to detail? (Us sag's are sadly lacking in that department).
Agree about SN, too. Can you get onto that?
Cheers!

Hi Draco! I really had to laugh when I read your post, because, although I am not a Virgo, I do have my Sun in the 6th Virgo house and I could totally sympathise with you. I also use the Liz Green as my favorite and I also would really like to see that south Node. What is it exactly that you dont like about Chiron? I actually never used him (her?). Then I got into this forum and saw (almost) everyone using it. I tried integrating it but just don't get the feel of it (yet) for some reaon, maybe because I like things to be clear and simple as well and are very satisfied with the basics so to say. So I am also not fond of Chiron, nor of all other stars and what not, making things only confusing. We get enough information really doing without all the extra's. Ciao, Starlink

Hi Starlink,

I repeat:

Absolutely. Even the outer planets cause unnecessary clutter and confusion in a chart, and when you use a program in which you can delete them, it's wonderful how clean and clear everything becomes. Just my personal opinion of course, but the transpersonals aren't useful in horary, sometimes useful in natal depending on the context of what is being asked, and really come into their own in mundane astrology.
The thing with that pesky little bugger Chiron is, that if we include him, what about all the other bits of rock floating about out there. It's okay for the ones that have pretty names which we can attach symbolic associations to such as 'Eros' or 'Daphne', but what about V492380 and JohnSmith? I just don't buy The Doctrine of Names, and we cannot selectively choose which bits of gravel mean something because they have pretty names, and which do not because they have been given non mythological names by the more unimaginative of physicists. What do we need an Eros for when we have Venus and Mars, and a scheme of dignities and debilities to find out so much more about them! What is Juno all about when we can have a femininely positioned Jupiter?
The truth is, we don't really know enough about the outer planets yet, and probably won't for another few hundred years, if then, so factoring insignificant conglomerates of gravel into horoscopes is just a source of amusement for me and mere titillation - but, as I said, just my opinion - which I must use as a disclaimer before I get hung, drawn and quartered by the ***-teroid crew! :p
There is nothing what-so-ever in this world that cannot be described by the seven light bearing planets. The outer planets are most interesting of course, but operate on a completely different level.

Hi Draco, thanks for your very clearly constructed answer! Wauw, I wished I could write like you. Cannot do it like that, probably because of my nationality I guess. I like people who have their own opinion and I dont think anyone of us really would like to hang, drawn and quarter you for it! They will have to do the same to me as I am in complete agreement with you. I am really very Virgoean (my invention) when it comes to these sort of things (as well as keeping everything in order, probably because of my Saturn squaring exactly my Mercury in the sixth house. I sometimes wonder what is stronger, having your Sun in the sixth or having the Sun in Virgo. When it comes to punctuality, being precise etc. I think I am almost "worse" than a Virgo Sun. I tell you, I have a partner who is a Virgo, but I have NEVER EVER seen anyone more chaotic than he is. The workplace looks like a timebomb just went of , absolutely dreadful! Maybe his Moon in Pisces in the 6th or Jupiter conjunct Neptune in his 1st house ??!! I really think that that is the reason. Funny isn't it. Sorry I answered so late, I was a week out of the country.
