Great! I like Naomi Klein, I have her 'The Shock Doctrine', verry interesting read though I had to put it down until I finish my course.
This article, hmm, very interersing, I feel OPRESSED!! :p I worry about being too outspoken sometimes about my opinions. People say or have been told that surveillence is for their benefit, to keep them safe, but from what? In this case it looks like it is the government protecting itself from its people, that doesn't seem right. If anyone of the people under Big Brother's gaze was to challenge said gaze, they would soon be brought back under control. This is good for catching would be criminals, but also keeps people generally under control. I wonder about this government's tactics, to keep the people oppressed like that. What could be the result? Like a pressure cooker or anything held in like that eventually has to explode. Like the Tower card in the Tarot, things that are repressed, oppressed eventually explode! Sure there are good points about surveillance, they are able to video any wrong doings, there are also bad points.

Nepture rising,
I thought it intersting you brought up the tower card, all towers do crumble.
I agree with the possitive views on survalence as well...it does protect property, and individual rights as well......
What is going on in china does not seem to much to do with individual rights though...or safety....and as you mentioned....safety from what.....
What the government is getting away with over there is what we combat within our own borders as americans, and that is manipulation of the press, free speach, peacefull assembly....
The part of the article that descibes the survalence of cell phones, voice anylization, all internet viewing...even the publishment of specific news is isolated from the chinese while the goverment is in full controll of what the people know or see.......
It is slavery....containment, and a way to keep government propaganda in the eyes of the people while "protecting" them from other forms of data that is contrary to what they normally should be able to see......even international CNN is edited and censored.....and what was done with the Tibetan riot footage is crazy...I'm not saying that this doesn't happen in other parts of the world, even America...but If I was in China I would have the idea that I could not be critical of this, or even have critical thought.....
I wouldn't be even able to post or coment on it, write upon it, speak on it........thats dangerous.
Thats scarry to me.
Horror.

That bit where the guy says, ""If you are a law-abiding citizen, you shouldn't be afraid," he finally adds. "The criminals are the only ones who should be afraid." makes me laugh. However if you ever express a thought that is not in harmony with the party's views, you will be scanned and logged as a menace. This happens in all countries with surveillance to certain degrees though this country does seem to have the most oppression I have learned of anywhere.
Here in the UK we seem to have more freedom of speech, but I wonder what direction we are going in with our surveillance and these new passports that are coming out. Its not just the criminals they are watching out for, its also for anyone who may threaten the powers that be.

Yes, I hear London has quite the survalence system....I read a small article on it not to far back yet know little.
China deffinatly is taking it to a whole new level.....I am in slight awe, and overwealm at the very thought of it....
It's creepy to me..gives me chills.
This is the part I find Horrifying, I litterally have goosebumps.
If I laugh it is in glee....
But the cameras that Zhang manufactures are only part of the massive experiment in population control that is under way here. "The big picture," Zhang tells me in his office at the factory, "is integration." That means linking cameras with other forms of surveillance: the Internet, phones, facial-recognition software and GPS monitoring.
This is how this Golden Shield will work: Chinese citizens will be watched around the clock through networked CCTV cameras and remote monitoring of computers. They will be listened to on their phone calls, monitored by digital voice-recognition technologies. Their Internet access will be aggressively limited through the country's notorious system of online controls known as the "Great Firewall." Their movements will be tracked through national ID cards with scannable computer chips and photos that are instantly uploaded to police databases and linked to their holder's personal data. This is the most important element of all: linking all these tools together in a massive, searchable database of names, photos, residency information, work history and biometric data. When Golden Shield is finished, there will be a photo in those databases for every person in China: 1.3 billion faces.
Thats crazy!.....
The Great Firewall.
It's like a bad movie.
It limits what gets in, limits what gets out....I suppose that is a government and what it does.....yet to think I would be a file in it's system, like a computer.....and only a file...a number with a mark...
Viewed as a piece and pawn in it's "harmonious" society.(laugh)
My idea is that it starts small, and grows large and out of hand, the peoples hand anyhow.
I still haven't read Ron Pauls -The Revolution, A Manifesto- yet...
He's that American presidential canidate no one has heard of much it seems...I think he has a shot....but it is maily because I am delusional that the Republic could be restored.....
I wouldn't mind someone in the house that would remove the Patriot Act, and he says it would go, as well as many other "security" departments.
I cant but like the guy....

I wonder which has a more stringent surveilance system, London or America, though thinking now, London is a speck of dust compared to the US of A, but looking at them percentage wise.
Will the rest of the world allow this sort of surveilance to be exported to their countries. Do we actually have a say in what happens in our own countries or do things just happen regardless of what us subjects think? On some level, we must have allowed these surveillance to enter our domains as in London or the USA, I don't see many people objecting to this sort of thing. Perhaps that is the effect of "its for your own good"... It makes me shudder to think of every lampost actually being a surveillance camera in disguise. Of all the things this money could be spent on it is spent on keeping the citizens in check.
I am glad we still have the freedom to express an opinion on this sort of thing, and we don't have the same oppression, but is it slowly going in the direction of the Chinese government, our freedom of thought, speech? More and more surveillance pops up everywhere, quite a lot of our moves are being watched, from credit card transactions to international travel to phone calls being logged.

Ron Paul's an interesting figure on the scene in view of the Pluto ingress into Capricorn, to be squared by a Jup/Uranus conjunction in June 2010. A revolution sounds pretty Uranian to me.

It has the 7:45 TOB as well.
But I have the image here.

It has as well a solar chart alongside of it....it is in my opinion an interesting chart.
I have not been able to find a deffinate TOB for Paul....I looked about for a hour and all seem to say nobody knows....at least on astrology forums and sites..
America does seem to have quite the survalence system as well....
I think many in America are deluded to thinking we are free, the forms of controll are very subtle.
There are parts of American major cities that contain survalence equipment as well...
I have heard library books are traced as well, lists of what one has borrowed are made.....I'm not sure who does this though in fact(shrugs)ohter then the library(laugh) but I have heard the FBI, or CIA..some orginization with three letters shoved together...to think they are being payed by the citizens, unknowingly, to watch their selves.....
And then there is the Patriot Act....
There are other things that have happened in America since then as well, new laws sliped in that really are illegal.....
It's not to suprising really..at least not after some time of seing how this stuff comes about...it is mainly power protecting power and the elite taking care of itself.
The "Revolution" as intended, is to return to the original constitution, and to discontinue policing the world.
Paul seems to desire to be the Roto Rooter of the political system...
He's an exciting figure.

That Ron Paul, I do sense a good feeling from him.
He is going through quite a time at the moment, transit wise. Saturn opposition, Saturn conjunct Mercury, possible Ascendant, then Uranus and Venus. Not to mention trine to his Moon. If he doesn't make president, maybe he can come and be prime minister here. His Saturn is conjunct my Moon. I'm definately going to read some of his books at some point.:)

No, you can't have him. :D
That Saturn square to his natal Saturn moves off just after the convention and prior to the election. He's been marginalized by the establishment, and that will probably continue until Saturn reaches about 11 Virgo in Sep 08.
He's a wild card, that's for sure. Makes the election much more interesting, especially in view of the upcoming Pluto/Uranus square.

My friend and I were having a private conversation the other day whilst standing beside my car (we were not planning any world domination plots nor were we wearing Che Guevara shirts or balaclavas). After two hours of talking one of us gazed up and noticed a big CCTV camera on top of a pole looking at us.
We must have looked very suspicious chatting there and laughing. It really freaked us out when we saw this but we decided to play with it. We both moved form our spot and the camera followed us. So we tried to outwit it and moved right underneath it so it couldn't see us. Then my friend noticed another camera some yards up the street had its 'eye' on us. We both felt like our privacy had been invaded, we were talking about some confidential delicate information to do something that will become public knowledge. I was  driving home after that. Of all the things that camera could have watched, it chose us. It felt so freaky, just like being in the 1984 novel!

This is too creepy. I'd probably have taken a shotgun to the **** thing and wound up in jail. Guess it's best to have long conversations "out of range." If "they" keep this up, it's only going to prompt a violent underground, as was the case during Vietnam.

The most angrifying aspect of CCTV is that it's sold to us - the taxpayers, who pay for it - as the modern way to prevent crime and catch criminals. Ha! I was mugged in daylight in the centre of Portsmouth (a medium-sized city in England). The paramedic, who was there when I regained consciousness, told me "Don't worry, they'll catch him. It'll all be on CCTV." It might have been, but the cops didn't come up with anything. If, instead of being mugged, I'd blown up the statue of Queen Victoria which was close by, no doubt my face would have been plastered all over the local newspaper next day - picture courtesy of CCTV, of course.

Hahaha! Yes, there is a scene in the 1984 film with John Hurt, where the only way he and Julia can escape Big Brother and be together is to go out of town into the countryside. It makes me wonder who is actually operating the camera  , could be any old werido we just don't know, though I'm sure they are decent human beings. I was thinking of unscrewing the bottom of the camera, taking out the fuze :D

Lol yes! Priorities, of course! Don't forget to smile! :):):)
Also DNA taking, bionic passports that we have to all pay for. It makes me want to emigrate to a nice peaceful island somewhere away from all this, where life is still natural - instead of living in the paranoid western world, where all the paranoia is filtered down by the 'powers that be'. Maybe someone should take them 'powers that be' to a tranquility retreat where they have daily yoga sessions, meditation hours and massage therapies, and they might cool it a bit ;) , and remember to breeeeaaatheee. Imagine that! Makes one think the world would be a much better place - possibly...

The trouble is these desert islands are getting fewer and farther between. Do you really want your neighbours to be Sir Richard Branson and Mel Gibson? Oh well, there's no accounting for taste. :38:
One puke-worthy aspect of CCTV is that my local council has a specially-designed notice attached to all the lampposts in the borough to tell you you're on CCTV - Community Care Through Vision. What was it George Orwell said? Truth is Lies? Work Makes Free? Oh no, sorry George, that was the Nazis. Isn't it a shame that the Age of Aquarius is more likely to be a global fascist dictatorship than a peace and love fest in a garden of flowers with everyone lying about on welfare all day long listening to the latest sounds?
Just joking, kids. The answer is to charge all your punters a fortune for their astrological advice.
Yours faithfully
