What do they mean?

Hey Guys,

I figured I'd give those Sabian Symbols a try, but I don't understand what they mean. I go to a site and it would tell me the Symbolic meaning. But I can't crack those codes. For example, my Mars is at Cancer 4:11. The Sabian Symbol is "A Cat Arguing With A Mouse". What does this mean?

Yeah, I forgot I had to round up. Thanks for reminding me. Still, I don't understand. I already know about this site, but the interpretation of the symbols there are just as vague as the symbols themselves :(

Sore - I would read your Mars position as one warranting caution. You seem to be one of those people who perhaps leaps before they look. Whenever you have a particularly hard transit to your Mars, I would probably avoid driving or at least be extremely mindful.

To get the most of the Sabian symbols try a quiet meditaition where you allow assoications and pictures to come into your mind. Then allow yourself to take an almost dreamlike interpretation of what you see. This is more like right brain sybol work rather than left brain logic work.

Anyway, the driving thing is a metaphore only. It's all about your Mars - your desires, your ambition, your energy. The Sabian Symbol might try to tell you that you have intense desires, strong ambition, bursts of energy, which if unleashed, uncontrolled, may lead to bad results/disaster.

My driving style is confident, too confident. I hardly speed (unless I'm in a hurry). I don't care much about my car. I'd readily bump it if I'm trying to get out of tight parking spot. I'm just as moody in driving as I am in life. I could be paying real good attention to the road and the other drivers or I could be completely ignoring the streets and actually reading while driving. The only problem with that is the lack of control. For the most part, I hate the drive and I like the destination. I'd rather have someone pick me up than having to drive myself.

Thanks for the link. Do you happen to know of any ebooks about the Sabian Symbols? I have trouble ordering books that have to be shipped overseas into Egypt.

My recommendation is to treat them like dream images and see every part of the symbol as a part of yourself...

They definitely need "symbolic" interpretation.

Furthermore, what symbolic realtionship do these sentences have with the sign of Cancer anyway?

To me it seems the symbols would have been better created while conciously recognising the sign and the degree of the sign to which the symbolic encapsulation was being reffered to. Then the symbols would make so much more sense. Even then, it would still be someone else's creative opinion.

Absolutely. Me too. Your comment was swept under the carpet. :? However, while I find them to be a very fun and sometimes startling oracle I find them useless in evaluating my chart.

I would be more inclined to make up my own which would make sense to me, even if to nobody else. I am suprised that so few others have the urge to do this. I'm not so inclined to the Cult of Wheeler. :|

I'm still not sure where I stand when it comes to the Sabians thing. Fascinating oracle, but unfeasable in relation to charts. What's wrong with interpreting planets in signs in houses, in aspect to other planets?

Dear Sorehearted, :D I just received a book I ordered on ebay, maybe you can get via ebay UK??? Its called 360 degrees of Wisdom Charting your destiny with the Sabian Oracle by Lynda Hill. The author gives quite good descriptions of the Sabian degrees positive and negative, and also asks What does it mean to you??? I really liked the comment she made on the 1st page of the book, As with all Oracles, whichever answer you find is the one you need. In the back of the book you get cards that are kind of tarot like and you draw from both piles, astrological signs and numbers up to 30. You could give readings to your friends and unlike horary you can keep asking and it will further define the situation if needed. Try the book I think you might like it!!!
