I thought I'd share this site for anyone interested in studying their natal parans:

Your Stars... Free Natal Parans (http://www.zyntara.com/free_paran_page.htm)

I'll post the information I received for fear of looking conceited, just to show what your report will look like. Please note that this is not the exact document; I typed and reformatted the information into a Microsoft Word document, and put asterisks around the parans with especially tight orbs.

Mercury:

Rising when Facies is Culminating orb 01 mins 35 secs-
Harshness, or bad news

Setting when Arcturus is Rising orb 01 mins 44 secs
A new invention, a bright idea

Venus:

***Rising when Vega is Culminating orb 00 mins 08 secs
A celebration of the arts, a charismatic person takes centre stage***

Rising when Alhena is On Nadir orb 00 mins 23 secs
Social reform issues

Rising when Facies is Culminating orb 00 mins 57 secs
A ruthless approach to social problems, or savage artistic comment

Rising when Hamal is Rising orb 01 mins 45 secs
The dictator, a person who believe they know what is good for others

Mars:

Setting when Algol is Setting orb 00 mins 40 secs
Tragic events or losses

Jupiter:

On Nadir when Markab is Rising orb 01 mins 11 secs
The wise person, the need for consistency of the law

Saturn:

***Rising when Acumen is Rising orb 00 mins 05 secs
Bitterness and anger at hardships endured by others***

Setting when Alhena is Rising orb 01 mins 22 secs
Putting forward new policies for social reform

I later created another document in which I copied and pasted the descriptions of the particular fixed star from The Fixed Stars (http://users.winshop.com.au/annew/). I'm still absorbing much of this information, but I'm curious to learn if others resonate with the descriptions given for each paran.

I could also use some sympathetic company for my lone Mars-Algol paran, which scares the bejesus out of me!

Thank you for posting this! I too am a little concerned with my Algol, which is seemingly parked right on top of my moon/taurus in the 1st house....and has aspects to almost everything in my chart, or seems to to me anyway.

I went to your great link on the fixed stars too - had no idea there were so many! Interestingly there, I have both my sun & ahhh some planet in Cancer that both are generally associated with drowning - Always have been scared of deep water!

How tight is the orb between Algol and your Moon? Fixed stars generally use a very tight orb--usually under a degree--but I believe Algol may have a slightly wider orb. Again, I'd only consider aspects of other planets to Algol if they are very tight, and even then, I'm not the influence of the fixed star would affect these planets. However, the Moon is an important planet, and if the Moon is tightly conjunct Algol and aspects other planets, I believe it's possible that you'd feel the influence more strongly than if a less personal planet were conjunct Algol.

I remember a member who had a potent experience with Algol conjunct his Nadir and one of the poles of his nodal axis as well; I'll have to search the forums and see if I can find his post.

EDIT: I can't believe I found this on the first try! Gotta love the Advanced Search feature :D

Wow, poor egg indeed. I've had some unfortunate experiences to be sure, and now am wondering what the transits were...April 2004 especially - I had one person very dear to me die, on the way home from the funeral home my cell phone rings to tell me that a lady I worked with whom I was quite good friends with had suddenly dropped dead, cause unknown. Later it was determined that it was an aneurism (sp) in the brain.

I am very much a beginner, so don't know that much yet, especially about the degrees & orbs & whatnot - still sorting all of that out.

Here's my chart if you want to look. The person in that algol thread has sort of a similar pattern in one part of their chart if I remember correctly....interesting at any rate. I will have to see if I can find out what the transits of this were at certain times in my life.

So now on your chart,

Mars:

Setting when Algol is Setting orb 00 mins 40 secs

What does the orb part of this mean? These confuse me so badly...where would algol be then in relation to mars on yours?

An orb refers to how far from exact a given aspect is, in this case conjunction... i think. So Algol is 40 secs from being exacty lined up with mars. An orb can also be referring to the maximum orb, or distance, that a given aspect can be from exact and still considered to have an effect.

Hope this helps

Yes, but remember we are dealing with parans here, not actual conjunctions of planets with particular fixed stars, so I do not believe my Mars-Algol influence is as strong as the Moon-Algol influence you have described.

If I understand the concept correctly, parans simply refer to a particular star being conjunct one of the angles at the same time a planet is conjunct one of the angles, so my natal Mars is not actually physically conjunct the fixed star Algol; indeed, it is located in mid-Gemini--not late Taurus.

However, I admit to being a bit confused myself that Mars would be setting at the same time Algol would be setting, for even when Mars was conjunct the Descendant, its degree wouldn't change to that of Algol. I'll have to think about this more deeply...

I think Pisceanfool described the concept of orbs quite nicely, but I fear I cannot answer your last question, as I am still attempting to determine how parans work.

P.S. The image has expired in your link :(

Well, I requested my report from the Free Paran Report link that you were good enough to provide - but not sure I'll understand them. :(

There are just some things about astrology that doesn't seem to want to sink in for me - though heaven knows I've certainly read some of it enough times. Just goes right on out of my head immediately.

Thank you, pisceanfool, for that explanation. I "think" I get it now!

Now, on the fixed stars, I think I read on a link provided somewhere - maybe on that Algol thread, that you don't look at fixed star transits, only natal?? Does anyone know if that's what's generally accepted as right?

Didn't know the link expired - here it is again, don't know for how long it will work though. I really wonder what to make of that algol there....

OK - Yikes! I just looked at transits for April 1, 2004 and venus was right there on top of my algor & moon. I lost 2 people suddenly that I cared much for - one of cancer and one of an unknown brain aneurysm. One was 43 and one was 56 years old.
