Tik: *Rana* is the Latin word for the genus *bullfrog* (I wonder if that's the Taurean association?). Rana belongs to the constellation *Eridanus*, to which ptolemy ascribed the above meanings-ie love of knowledge/science etc. Even though it affords great opportunities, it is also associated with a danger of drowning at sea.
This information comes from a book called *the Fixed Stars and Constellations In Astrology* by Vivian E Robson 1923.
It's not hard to see how this association was made...Back then the adventurers went by sea and this was dangerous. Often the acquisition of knowledge involved long journeys.
Interestingly this star is posited exactly on the 7thcusp of an ex of mine..
When he was a small child, his father threw him into an ocean swimming pool.He almost drowned and has retained his fear of the water ever since...Cheers, Lillyjgc

Tik:

The "fortunate" part must have been a mistake for sure.

Well ;ove of Science and positions of Authority cannot be all that bad.

Tik-If it were a Hitler or Saddam that was to drown at sea it would be fortunate.

This is a very old thread, so I hope it's cool I bring it back to life.

I was doing some research on fixed stars & I came across Rana. At 20 deg Taurus, it conjuncts my Saturn. Also, according to..

http://www.astrologycom.com/fixedstars.html

.. it's character is Saturnian.

I totally relate to how this fixed star is described as..

Love of knowledge, science, much travel, many changes, position of authority, accidents at sea, drowning

.. I grew up in the water, my first memories are of it.. I love knowledge, studied science, travel, always moving.. Yet I've never been in "authority." But I'm afraid of drowning.:crying:
