View Full Version : Where can I find them?

I'd like a source where I can learn about different transits before they occur... put simply, that is. Most of the websites I know give you a bunch of numbers and figures that I don't understand. I just want something could tell me what planet will go Rx or direct where at what time. Things like that.

Also.. what is parallel and contra parallel? Coz I see these terms a lot.

Anyone?

Top of the day to you, Sore! (I'd say good morning, but that seems a trifle bit silly for your location. :D )

Can't really help with parallel and contra-parallel, but here is what I can tell you about transits:

1) get yourself a good emphemeris. If there is an astrological publishing house in Egypt that has an emphemeris base on local time, that is even better. You will want ones that cover at least the last 150 years (I know that here in the US the ACS US Ephemerides cover 1900-2000 and 2000-2050 both at Midnight and Noon). If you can get an emphemeris that goes bak farther than that and you if you are interested in mundane astrology, you will be able to track transists and see how they played into recent historical events. Do remember, however, that you will need to see how the transits affected all the players in the event.

For example, take the 2000 US presidential elections. Not only do you need the US, Bush's and Gore's, and the day of the election charts, you would also need the US Supreme Court's charts (as an institution, the individual members and the creation of that version of the Rhenquist Court), Florida's statehood chart, Jeb Bush's (both natal and the most recent election as Governor prior to the 2000 national election) and the Florida Attorney General's charts (natal and appointment), the day the Supreme Court made its ruling in favor of Bush, and the chart for Broward County (its creation and election day) to see why it was the focal point. Granted, the US, Bush and Gore's and the election day chart will give you the overall trends on why the country stupidly let Bush get the reigns, but it will be only be skin deep. The more in-depth one goes with the transits, the more the underlying structures are exposed.

Now 99.99% of us do not have the time to go that far in-depth with our astrological research so we have to pick and choose the charts we use in mundane astrology. This why very rarely dabble in it. I can't get the depth of answers I want (my 9th house Virgo Mercury/Pluto conjunction) without seeing the interrelationships between all the factors.

2) When looking at transits, it also helps to know the length of stationing and retrograde periods. The retrograde cycle does not end at the time the planet stations and goes direct but at the time when the planet returns to the degree and minute it stationed to turn retrograde.

Mercury stations for one day before and at the end of the of the retrograde period and retrogrades for 20-24 days.

Venus stations 2 days at both ends and Rxes for 40-43 days.

Mars stations 3 days at both ends and Rxes for 58-81 days.

Jupiter stations 5 days at both ends and Rxes for 120 days.

Saturn stations 5 days at both ends and Rxes for 140 days.

Uranus stations 6 days at both ends and Rxes for 155 days.

Neptune stations 7 days at both ends and Rxes for 157 days.

Pluto stations 7 days at both ends and Rxes for 160 days.

Hope this helps. :D

Wow, Elianah. Thanks.

I don't think Egypt has a publishing house of the sort. Astrology here is accepted as entertainment, but when you get in the depth of it, it's generally not ok. It's suddenly against religion and stuff! :?

I think I can manage with a GMT emphemeris and add Egypt's two or three hours. I don't know where to find that though.

I am interested in mundane astrology, but it's still a tad (just a tad!) advanced for me right now. Comparing all these charts, I'd either lose my mind or my sight :D. I plan on getting there someday though (I'm a Leo, I will). But for now, I need to find a novice-friendly emphemeris :D .

www.astro.com has an online GMT ephemeris in pdf format. It isn't quite as accessible as an actual book because you need to download each year and you have to have multiple screens open at the same time, especially if you are looking at the progress of a transit, say like Saturn in Leo.

Flipping through a book just seems a little easier to me in for that purpose. :D That may make me a Luddite in this case, but so be it.

What you can do is go to www.Amazon.com and type in ephemeris into its search engine in its books section and see what it provides you. I would look in the US and UK versions of Amazon, there might be a few books that are on one and not the other.

Well, then I'm always a Luddite. I prefer to read a physical book rather than an ebook or a website. When I can only use web based resources I usually print out the material and bind them together in the form of a book. Could this be my Moon in Taurus :D?

Anyhow, thanks for your help on this matter. I'll check out astro.com, but if I find something "physical" on MAazon, I'll definitely buy it.
