I was doing research on the planetary nodes this morning and came across this quote on the following correspondence course site
http://www.webspace4me.net/~blhill/pages.aux/astrology/tobey/tobey.14.html
When he wrote the Ten Commandments General Moses had his intellectual limitations.
What struck me was not the "General" Moses, because that may be an artifact of the metaphysical training Carl Payne Tobey has received. What struck me was that phrase of "had his intellectual limitations."
I don't know just how to read that last phrase. What I think all astrologers need to recognize is that we all have limitations, whether physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, etheric, dimensional, etc. Each one of us has our own baggage to work through and release. Part of a good interpretation, IMHO, is where it leads the astrologer to in doing personal transformation. In Polarity Therapy we call this "Give a session, receive a session." The issue presented by the client may be on that the practitioner is working through consciously, subconsciously, unconsciously or in some combination. The client gives a new perspective on the issue needing to be healed and released and assists the practitioner covertly in the process.
In other words, a practitioner will attract those people where there is mutual benefit to be gained. It may not appear so at first blush, but the more one works with a client, the more one learns about the self of both people. This does not mean that the practitioner does personal work during the client's time, but more of a reflective stance afterward: what did I learn about myself through the healing relationship with this client in this session? What do I need to work on in myself as the healing relationship progresses?
Just as in Polarity Therapy, I feel that astrological consultation is a healing relationship. We (the astrologers) are providing guidance to a client on how to best use the energies of the entire chart to heal and transform in order to best project the soul of the client onto the Earth plane. We can guide and suggest. It is up to the client to choose how to use the information we give.
The thing that is important for any person, IMHO, to remember is this: I am as full of sh*t as the next person. The next person has different sh*t than me, and that does not make that person or me better or lesser than the other, only different. If we decide to spread manure together, we will transform it into fertilizer which can change ourselves in the process, if we allow it.
My 2˘ worth, as always.
