What about this Ophiuchus character, this secret sign that has been hiding in Scorpio...?
While I imagine this will be hotly debated, but I just read that our sun moves through 13 constellations, not 12. Aack!!!! What's the deal with this??? Somewhere in history did we lose the 13th sign and it's meaning and now its all WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.... but, of course... actually RIGHT!?
What I read is that the sun only moves through the actual sign of Scorpio for 7 days and the other 18 are spent in Ophiuchus, the Serpent Handler. In mythology, Ophiuchus is connected with the stories of Gaia, Orion, and Scorpius. Seems Orion (I translate: ego-based human) decided he was going to kill all the animals on Gaia (look around you... how many animals do YOU see?) Gaia, clearly unwilling to be destroyed, calls to the gods and they send Scorpius to take that ******* Orion down with a sting on the heel, thinking the great but foolish hunter would fail to notice such a small animal. They were right, and Orion was stung, possibly to the death. But Asclepius/Ophichus, who was a great legendary healer trained under Chiron took mercy. Asclepius, who learned the mystery of life and death by observing one serpent heal another (kundalini), used his knowledge to heal Orion (also presumably of his Earth-menacing ways) and promptly ground the scorpion under his foot. The name Ophiuchus is derived from the Greek word for "serpent handler." There is no healer or god with the name Ophiuchus, but he has always been associated with Asclepius. Eventually they both became known by Ophiuchus.
I have a big emphatic "humpf!!" that points directly to Ophiuchus and 13 signs.... especially given the fact that we have 13 moons in a year, 13 chakra gates, 13 notes in an octave or chromatic scale, and I'm sure an entire universe of other 13 synchronicities. As above, so below... 13 is traditionally known as being the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega, which is what those triskadecaphobics are so upset about. The Mayans who incidentally also like the number 13 and have a pretty reliable 2012 calandar, locate our galactic center and cosmic womb directly at Ophiuchus as well. Which could mean many things for us as humans/orions.
While I'm certainly not assuming that a new sign would knock our 12 house system off it's axis (it doesn't), I think whats going on in the Scorpion/Ophiuchus area is very interesting. Does anyone agree or have more knowledge on the existence of 13 signs? What branch(es?) of astrology would this be considered as? Or theories on how this might change our current interpretations of astrological systems? Or examples of how it has in the past? Or proven reasons of why I should skip it all together?
oh, PS: I am biased on this 13 thing: my birthday is April 13, 1978... 2:34 am, Poughkeepsie, NY ;)
