Here's my chart. I am going on a job interview for a position at a hospital (not a medical position) in Maryland on Monday, March 19th, at 3:00 p.m. (The position seems at first glance to be a good fit for me, and I was contacted within days of sending in my resume). Location of the interview is latitude 39.208 N longitude -76.066

Any advice on suitability of the job for me? I have the experience, but changing positions could be risky for me, and I would need substantially more money to do so.

P.S. I am posting here because I was told this was more appropriately in this forum than where I had it before. Thanks.

hi portiasmom,

I know its been over half a year since your interview, I just saw this post now. How did it go? My friend and I both started different jobs on that day too. I've been waiting to see how the solar eclipse would effect it. Im looking for a new job, unfortunately it didnt work out very well for me.

All the best to you,
NR

You know, it was funny.... I got a lot of advice from people telling me that the job itself probably wasn't right for me, and I was worried about it, too. I carried those concerns into the interview, which seemed to go well enough until the end -- when the interviewer asked me how much money I was making at my current job. I hesitated, then answered honestly, and she almost laughted in my face. :o She said, in a condescending kind of way, "Oh, I am sure that we could do better than THAT!" :38: This was at the door to the elevator, and I didn't have much recovery in me...I just laughed also, but I felt I had just blown it. Anyway, I didn't get the job. The person they did hire was very well qualified (not more so than me, but different specialty) and I could see why they hired her. She was very event-focused, while I am more strategic (and probably also more senior management) I also learned that they were discussing merging with a bigger health system and that that was/is quite controversial. There may be many reasons why it was not the right job at the right time for me. Of course, the eclipse may very well mean that the hospital itself is devoured/ceases to be through the merger.

I recently applied for another job at the same place, (I know, am I crazy or what?! but it is one of the few employers with good salaries and benefits where I live) but haven't been called for an interview. I am still at the job I had when I interviewed for the first job, and it hasn't gotten any better. Lots of staff morale problems and inequities in compensation as far as I am concerned. Still, it is steady paycheck that I cannot afford to do without.

I'm sorry, NR, that your situation didn't work out too well either. I'll let you know if anything does happen for me in the future. I have a business with my partner that is in its first year, and hope that I can pay off our debts and that it will eventually catch up as a revenue stream...

Thanks for asking!

The very best of luck to you portiasmom, I hope they call you for an interview if its going to be the right thing for you. I hope your business with your partner goes well too. Ah the challenge of working in horrible situations! I've tried everything to make myself feel positive in my job - singing silly songs to myself, chocolate, surfing the web when no one is looking usually helps. :p
