Yeah, pretty much self-explanatory for the most part.

What aspects in one's chart most commonly occur when dealing with this issue, and if so, do I have any?

Sheesh, I sound kind of selfish on that last line...:o

hi scorpchick,

neptun is the best indicator for addictiveness.esp. hard aspects between mars-neptun indicates addictivity

Yes; Neptune definitely but I guess it depends upon your interpretation of 'addictive'.

Any planet to which Uranus, Neptune or Pluto are aspected could tell you in which area you are neurotic, psychotic or compulsively obsessional:D.

Don't worry everyone, I'm emotionally stable! :86:

*hides tight Uranus-Moon square*

Seriously, in addition to the influences mentioned above, I think yod configurations may also point towards compulsive behavior because the irritating energy of the quincunx aspects is channeled into one planet--the apex.

It is important to remember that not all addictions are to substances such as alcohol and drugs; one can be addicted to the rush of adrenaline received from shoplifting or riding roller coasters or addicted to praise that comes from high levels of achievement, or perhaps addicted to attention. Each other these different situations would likely involve different types of energies and therefore planets, so it's difficult to lump them together and state decisively that Neptune is the source of all addiction.

My natal Neptune is weak in that it is dominated by a conjunction with Saturn in its own sign and house--the tenth house in Capricorn. Saturn is also further along in the zodiac than Neptune by about a degree, and as such, it leads the stellium, which also includes Uranus conjunct my Midheaven. I have only mentioned these details from my own chart because I consider myself to be prone to addictive behaviors, yet Neptune does not seem to be a large factor at all.

I believe the source of one's addiction should also be something to contemplate when attempting to locate it in the natal chart--some are manifestations of inner emotional difficulties, which may be related to the Moon, and others may relate more to power, which may involve Saturn (in an authority sense) and Pluto (in the sense of dominance).

These are just my own thoughts; as Elianah once said, take what fits and ditch the rest! ;)

Thanks everybody, now i actually understand!

Oh yes, another quick question!

Can I re-post one of my threads in the right forum? I accidentally put one in the horary section, when it was supposed to be placed in the natal forum.

Thanks again!

That truly depends on the type of addiction you have and to what. Addiction to any pleasurable activities (which is usually the source of any addiction) is usually a result of Venus. People who are addicted to romantic ideals, drugs/alcohol, sex, shopping (clothes jewelry shoes & etc.), food, as well as many other vain persuits. Analyze Venus unless of course your addictions come from something other then pleasurable activities.

Holly,

Check out Venus and your 5th House. Both are indicators of food (and addiction as previously stated). If there are no Planets in the 5th, look to the Lord of the 5th.

Indeed, Neptune would be the first one to grasp my mind in this matter...
And Venus strikes logical to me too, as Neptune is sometimes considered as a higher octave of Venus...

I have a very afflicted Neptune in my chart... But I consider myself not addicted to anything... maybe sweets, like pancakes, whipped cream and cookies... although that is less then in earlier days... And I have Venus in Taurus... so that helps too (they makes a 135°)...

I think every sign has an natural addiction

Aries: Adrealine
Taurus: Good Food, being addicted to being lazy (from time to time)
Gemini: Communication (i have SN in 3, not in Gemini... i hate silence)
Cancer
Leo: Attention
Virgo: Obsessive Cleaning
Libra: a relation (but this seems so evident)
Scorpio: Sex (but this seems so evident too)
Sagittarius: Travelling, the willingness to be always somewhere else then where they are at the moment (NN in 9)
Capricorn
Aquarius: acting rebellious
Pisces: this sign is most of the time associated with addiction itself...

I didn't find any for Cancer and Capricorn, so if someone wants to help or add something

And these are generalizations off course, they won't work for everypne

Take a look at the Ruler of the 5th House first, being Mars, it is conjunct to Venus in a water Sign in the 8th, it is also trined to Saturn in the 5th (also a water sign) which directly draws these Planets together(Mars+Venus+Saturn). Saturn is Peregrine which means that it is not Essential Dignified in that spot making its positive effects (as all Planets have polarity in their effects) weak. This will lead to a lot of Saturns negative influences showing themselves.

What does all this say about eating habits? Well since Saturn is weak, the restriction(positive) comes through as constriction(negative). For example, lets say that Saturn is well dignified in his place, it would show that you would be moderate in your pleasure seeking (food, sex & etc.) and you would have self control over these as well. But Saturn ill dignified brings out the ill significations, lets assume that you were to go on a diet or in some way change your eating plan, this would present itself as nothing more then torture for you. You would also present irregularities in your diets and eating patterns. You find it hard to draw the limit and make healthy decisions. Do you see how it ties in? I hope this helps you.

Belgianmoonguy,

I think Cancer is prone to food addiction while Capricorn has OCD tendencies. Does anyone agree?

My brother, who has a second house Taurus Sun and a first house Jupiter conjunct his Pisces Ascendant, has always enjoyed food to a sometimes unhealthy extent, but it is difficult to say if he ever had an addiction to eating or used to satisfy emotional discomfort. I usually associate overeating with Taurus from the Earth signs and Cancer--possibly Pisces--from the Water signs.

From personal experience, I know that OCD is all about attempting to assert control over one's habits and environment, even to the extent of causing one to lose all semblance of personal dignity while indulging in odd rituals that temporarily satisfy one's need for order, predictability, etc. Although I believe it is possible for a frazzled Capricornian to find release in obsessive compulsions in the privacy of his home or office to enable exude that legendary composure, it does not strike me as the first sign to use OCD to cope. Gemini or Virgo would seem to be obvious answers due to their Mercury rulership, yet I think the source of this disorder runs deeper than mental activity alone.

While writing this post, I was thinking of possible aspects that may incline one to be predisposed towards OCD and although I have attempted not to be biased with my own chart, a phrase has been repeating itself in my mind--OCD is essentially thought turned into action, although it is obviously different from productive thoughts which lead to productive achievement. Following the natural astrological conclusion of this statement, do you suppose that any contact between Mercury and Mars, including mutual reception, may incline one to feel a psychological need to perform some action (Mars) to satisfy an impulse the mind generated (Mercury) to function normally? An unsatisfied compulsion is comparable to an itch that has not been scratched; it consumes all of one's attention until some action is carried out to fulfill the body's or the mind's need for resolution. I assume Tourette's Syndrome is quiet similar...

Don't mind my ramblings! ;)

Since the moon rules habits and patterns, beside Neptune, I think the moon has got to be in the mix in a big way in order for someone to have addictions. The more negativity and the bigger the energy, the more dangerous and debiliting the addictions. The psyche uses Neptune as a "way out" of major psychic discomfort. The way out can be harmless - music, art, movie or tv watching (though anything can be overdone) or.... it can be substance abuse or behavioral addictions as in gambling, sex and spending money to the point of self-destruction. When Neptune is involved, Mercury often loses it's power of discrimination.

Taurus is over food addictions (especially sweet and delectable things), Libra is usually OCD over appearance (mostly superficial things), Virgo is usually OCD over health (Hypochondriac).

I have a tight Moon-Saturn-Neptune T-square. I don't think you can get a worse combination for addiction. And yes, I have an addictive personality. Right now it's food and sleep. I like to gorge on food and then sleep as stress relief. But I have an addictive personality in general. As I've said time and time again, thank god for my strong Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Scorpio. It's the only thing that keeps me sane as it at least makes me *aware* of what's going on and it helps me keep clear of the worse things like drugs and alcohol. My Moon-Pluto trine I think has helped me break through of most of my addictions so far. Hey, looks like Pluto can be useful sometimes. I also tend to be OCD though I'm not sure where that comes from. It might be because the Saturn in the T-square is in Virgo.

I think every sign has an natural addiction

Aries: Adrenaline, being the boss of "them" not of "me".- added by CAP
Taurus: Bad habits such as smoking, being addicted to being lazy (from time to time) or hoarding. - added by CAP
Gemini: Communication, or Tourette's syndrome, as well speech impediments. - added by CAP
Cancer: Food addiction, Weight management issues. - added by CAP
Leo: Attention, self-image, could be selfish/egoist/eccentric. -added by CAP
Virgo: Obsessive Cleaning or organizing, may develop fears of germs. - added by CAP
Libra: a relation (but this seems so evident).
Scorpio: Sex (but this seems so evident too).
Sagittarius: Travelling, the willingness to be always somewhere else then where they are at the moment.
Capricorn: OCD tendencies or ADD symptoms. - added by CAP
Aquarius: acting rebellious, fascinated with social taboos (they don't observe or must break them). - added by CAP
Pisces: this sign is most of the time associated with addiction itself... workaholic traits and illegal drug use/experimentation. -added by CAP

And these are generalizations off course, they won't work for everypne

You're right, kinda and too right on self-analysis of my bad habits acting rebellious or holding politically "radical" views from the majority of others' opinions held as "socially acceptable or morally proper" to rejecting mine.

OCD symptoms and easily fixated or distracted from my own work are somewhat Aquarian, but half-right for sidereal astrologers who placed me in the very end of Capricorn...and weight gain or loss in Cancer rising.

Mercury is the planet associated with randomness, hyperactivity and overdoing just about anything or everything. I sense Gemini and Virgo are high risk to become "hooked onto" something for the kicks and thrills.

Neptune is the ruling planet of Sagittarius and Pisces, the signs at high risk of alcoholism and drug addiction..and Venus in Taurus and Libra are prone to turning away from reality by start smoking to online addiction.

Now I see Scorpios and Aries turn to sex addictions, or a need for speed (to give others subordinate to them a hard time). I guess Libras have a pull not a push to a topic, subject, hobby or interest...to be stuck there. xD
