hi all,
if you are an astrologer, or into astrology, at some point someone will directly confront your belief.
i tend to say: "the astrology i believe in is not the same one that you don't believe in."
i sometimes go on to say that what they think is really none of my business (that usually gets an odd look).
what are some of your best arguments for (or against) astrology?

If the Moon and the Sun have effects on nature such as the tides and the way creatures react in nature then how can the planets not have effects on human behavior.
Hey,if you have not studied it what do you base your beliefs on and if your a religious follower I wonder what type of astrology they used before they came to a conclusion it means nothing.
Is not the Dali Lama choosen based on some sort os Star projection also?I am wondering about that onw though.
Just thinking!

Any one who doubts Astrology should study it themselves. How many times do we hear people state "I dont believe in Astrology" and when you ask what is there not to believe they speak of newspaper horoscopes? Im not sure if those people are worse or the ones who state they believe in Astrology and say that the Newspaper is always correct! and then ask your Sign  Its much easier to convience a non-believer than an ignorant fool.

A true skeptic will study, research, investigate. It's the only way to dispell doubts. It's easy to discredit, belittle and despise something when you haven't taken the trouble to dig deep enough into it in order to reach a conclusion that makes you change your opinion about the subject in question.
My best argument for Astrology? The simplest of all: Astrology encloses such an incredibly large amount of knowledge (as much empirical as scientific), that when you start to seriously study it, you realise that it cannot possibly be for the simple minded.
Astrology makes anyone feel humble.

Honestly, I started my study of Astrology to disprove it! I have a Capricorn ascendant, with Saturn in Virgo in the 9th house, perfect setup for a skeptical philosopher. That I am. I'm very open minded, but don't assume everything I hear or read is truth. I require some logical proof, and not just words on a page!
I had met this eccentric girl who was quite into the fairly shallow side of Astrology, making it seem like some form of a joke (and her like a tard). Having Mercury in Scorpio my nature was to investigate to the maximum depth, figuring I'd prepare a nice unbreakable argument. I figured it'd be a fun-loaded debate and she challenged me to it.
I think it wasn't more than a few months later that I realized I had, possibly for the first time, been defeated in a serious effort to disprove what seemed an obvious fallacy. I ended up teaching her quite a bit and got her using the planets and aspects. It was amusing.
It just goes to show... Don't put down that which you don't fully understand. If you are going to make an argument, investigate the facts first, lest you find your foot in your mouth.
For me, my ambition to disprove the concept started disintegrating when my natal chart starting showing deeper parts of myself that I was aware I needed to resolve but couldn't grasp. I don't think it was a month before I was understanding how some of my difficult aspects were shooting me in the foot. I still grapple with them, but the conscious understanding and transit cycle awareness is one hell of a weapon!
Then came event charts and mundane Astrology. Suddenly it seemed an event chart was more honest than a media news report. I started to observe, with my own eyes, "as above, so below" and any lingering hopes of disproving the cosmic art were disintegrating before my eyes.
... And this is what happens when you have a Uranus/MC progression in tandem with Uranus entering your third house around the time of a Jupiter return with JU/UR=SO both from the return to natal AND the natal to return midpoints! I'm cool with 13 years of JU/UR/SO interaction. I'll write plenty more about it on the next Jupiter go around, which lines up with my MC progressing to Mercury and brings me close to the start of the Uranus/Uranus opposition. Those will be good times too. :)

Carl Jung said that astrology contains all the historical knowledge of psychology. So it's the best way of knowing yourself and also the best way of divination. Astrology is as true as poetry or religion. It works the same way as the I Ching, tarot, palmistry or numerology. The accuracy of astrology depends of the greatness of the astrologer, however astrology by itself is made of what dreams are made of, and this is illusion or maya.

What's maya... I've never heard of that word being used. Where did it come from.

Maya is an hindu term referring to reality as an illusion. I'm using the term in a more strict manner referring to any symbolic activity as maya or illusion. Astrology being a symbolic activity is therefore in the realm of illusion, altough it is a coherent illusion, in the sense that it corresponds with the asociations of the collective unconcious, until the astrologer tries to find connections with the material reality.
