Hi hi ptolemy
Thank you for the friend's invitation.I couldn't clear my mail box so can't receive your PM at the moment. Have been access forum by iPhone ;(
I only got one quote to share at the moment:
"Man is not what he is because he was born when he was, but he was born when he was because he was, potentially, what he is."
Front the book of "How to learn Astrology" by Marc Edmund Jones
So philological hey? :p
By the way, medical astrology was the foundation of herbalism and herbalism is the foundation of modern pharmaceutical science. Modern medicines and science are both less than 100 years, I think but astrology had been around for few thousand years. Lol
Hi, yer thanks I was happy to see you in my friends box as I really like
your posts. I agree with you about plants, I mean morphine is based on opium from
the poppy.
I like your quote too, x
If you like to know more about morphine. Search "Life After Death" on YouTube, and the official website, they have free short videos; is an Australian made documentary about how morphine changes end of life patients. It is really inspirational!!!! I Highly recommend it! And you get to see how morphine is being produced from poppy seeds; a humble plant relieves so much pain!
To be honest, the other reason I like it because I was born on Poppy's day lol.

A Doctor too emerged as we proceeded;
No one alive could talk aswell as he did
On points of medicine and of surgery,
For,being grounded in astronomy,
He watched his patient closely for the hours
When,by his horoscope,he knew the powers
Of favourable planets,then ascendent,
Worked on the images for his dependent.
The cause of every malady you'd got
He knew,and wether dry,cold,moist or hot;
He knew their seat, their humour and condition.
He was a perfect practising physician.
The Canterbury Tales-Geoffrey Chaucer.

In the middle 1970s an astronomer I admire put together a modest manifesto called "Objections to Astrology" and asked me to endorse it.I struggled with his wording, and in the end found myself unable to sign, not because I thought astrology has any validity whatever, but I felt(and still feel) that the tone of the statement was authoritarian. It criticized astrology for having origins shrouded in superstition. But this is true as well for religion, chemiistry, medicine and astronomy,to mention only four. The issue is not what faltering and rudimentary knowledge astrology came from, but what is its present validity.

Some time ago there was a rich old codger
Who lived in Oxford and who took a lodger.
The fellow was a carpenter by trade,
His lodger a poor student who made
Some studies in the arts, but all his fancy
Turned to astrology and geomancy,
And he could deal with certain propositions
And make a forcast under some conditions
About the likelihood of drought and showers
For those who asked at favourable hours,
Or put a question how their luck would fall
In this or that,I can't describe them all.
This lad was known as Nicholas the Gallant,
And making love in secret was his talent,
For he was very close and sly,and took
Advantage of his meek and girlish look,
He rented a small chamber in the kip
All by himself without companionship.
He decked it charmingly with herbs and fruit
And he himself was sweeter than the root
Of liquorice,or any fragrant herb.
His astronomic text -books were superb,
He had an astrolabe to match his art
And calculating counters laid apart
On handy shelves that stood above his head

In ancient China and Rome astrology was the exclusive property of the emperor;any private use of this potent art was considered a capital offence.Emerging from a particularly credulous Southern California culture.Nancy and Ronald Reagan relied on an astrologer in private and public matters-unknown to the votiing public. Some portion of the decision making that influences the future of our civilization is plainly in the hands of charlatans. If anything, the practice is comparatively muted in America;its venue is worldwide.

Men should take their knowledge from the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Courteous Reader, Astrology is one of the most ancient Sciences, held in high esteem of old, by the Wise and the Great. THE FOLLOWING 96 WORD QUOTE IS SAID BY EDMUND Act I Scene II King Lear by William Shakespeare
...."we make guilty of our
disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars…...fools by
heavenly compulsion; knaves, thieves, and
treachers, by spherical predominance; drunkards,
liars, and adulterers, by an enforced obedience of
planetary influence; ........an admirable evasion
of whoremaster man, to lay his goatish
disposition to the charge of a star! My
father compounded with my mother under the
dragon's tail; and my nativity was under Ursa
major; so that it follows, I am rough and
lecherous. Tut, I should have been that I am,
had the maidenliest star in the firmament
twinkled on my bastardizing".....

I have always have this idea in my mind. Each and everyone has a Sagiturius, a Pisces, a Jupiter and a Neptune you just have to see how they play out in a chart to see rather religion important to the person or not. And why they represent religion, spiritual life and growth anyway?
Human being is the only organism that does prayer and use language to write books about religions and seek spiritual enlightenments in all forms. Is that what makes us human?

Yes,I am gap-toothed;it suits me well I feel,
It is the print of Venus and her seal.
So help me God I was a lusty one,
Fair,young and well-to do,and full of fun!
And truley,as my husband said to me
I had the finest quoniam that might be.
For Venus sent me feeling from the stars
And my heart's boldness came from Mars.
Venus gave me desire and lecherousness
And Mars my hardihood,or so I guess,
Born under Taurus and with Mars therein.
Alas,alas,that ever love was sin!
I ever followed natural inclination
Under the power of my constellation
And was unable to deny,in truth,
My chamber of Venus to a likely youth.
The mark of Mars is still upon my face
And also in another privy place.

Good Morning PoYi,
The tale continues.
Who called the lion savage?Do you know?
By God,if women had but written stories
Like those the clergy keep in oratories,
More had been written of man's wickedness
Than all the sons of Adam could redress.
Children of Mercury and we of Venus
Keep up the contrariety between us;
Mercury stands for wisdom, thrift and science,
Venus for revel,squandering and defiance
Their several natures govern their direction;
One rises when the other's in dejection.
So Mercury is desolate when halted
In Pisces, just where Venus is exalted,
And Venus falls where Mercury is raised,
And women therefore never can be praised
By learned men,old scribes who cannot do
The works of Venus more than my old shoe.
These in their dotage sit them down to frowse
And say that women break their marriage-vows!

Have been reading my new books till morning again. Won't be able to do this when I go back to work. :(
This Tale is very interesting, teaching about planetary dignity somehow. Is a perfect bedtime story for student of astrology.
By the way, I always wonder when my Venus conjunct to her fall in Virgo, but then Mercury exalted in Virgo and Mars exalted in Capricorn. I still don't know how to make sense of all these connections. Your Tale got me thinking about this again. Venus, Mars, Mercury and Moon....look like I won't be able to sleep for another while :)

First cause of motion,cruel firmament,
Driving the stars with thy diurnal sway
And hurling all from east to occident
That naturally would take another away,
Thy crowding force set in heaven in such array
That this her first, fierce journey must miscarry
Any Mars will slay this marriage,if she marry.
O thou unfortunate oblique degree
Of the Ecliptic, whence the cadent Mars,
Thrust from his proper angle,helplessly
Falls into Scorpio, darkest house of stars!
O lord of war, whose influence debars
All hope!O feeble Luna,vainly knit
To him, thrust forth from where thou shouldest sit!
And O imprudent Emperor of Rome,
Is one time like another in such case?
Haddest thou no astrologer at home

Whose hour of birth was known to thee? But O,

In Canberra we do have some aboringal people. They are deeply traumatised by the white australians during the white government. You may already know about the Stolen Generation...
I have looked after them at work some time. They don't like to come to hospital and generally physical are usually very poor with a very short lifespan comparing to the rest of the population. They are at the lowest of the socioeconomic group. Many of them live in rural area and bushes.
The last time when I was doing my Health Promotion degree, we studied about this ethic group. There was a time I had a lot of negative views about the period of White Australia. It was the darkest time of Australia, to me that was Nazi, IMO. And now, we still have a lot of struggles to provide quality health care to them, however most of the time Aborginal people don't want to accept western health care services and hardly any health care professionals are willing to work in Darwin, Northern Territory, Perth or Canberra. People only like to live in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Health care in Canberra as the capital of Australia is actually not as good as other major cities. In general, people prefer more fun and shopping. I don't go to pub, so living in Canberra doesn't bother me. :)
Aboriginals are very proud and also strubborn people. Their culture and languages are very difficult to be understood...in fact many of them lost their native languages because of being forced by government to study English and go to church during that Stolen Generation time. They were forced to marry white Australians so their skin color got diluted and more clean......there are large numbers of sexual abuses and violences within the family, most of them have alcohol or drug abuse issues. This gap doesn't seem to get any better. We just couldn't gain their trust, mostly because of lack of understand and respect to their cultures.
However Kiwi people in New Zealand are the reverse; they are the top of the socioeconomic class. They own majority of the native lands and kiwi women have the highest respect in their culture. I would love to be born as female kiwi. Lol

About 80-90% of the time you always quoted from some books to express your hidden meanings. I would really appreciate if you would just go straight and direct. Seriously! I am sure somewhere in my chart suggested that I can be quite thick headed at time, so be Kind!! Lol

Your post just made my day. I have a stellium in Scorpio in the 1st house and Moon (along with PoF) in Pisces in the 5th house. Also to anyone who has replied with quotes from long ago (especially from the Bible since I am christain) makes me feel much better! Thanks everyone!

There were the bodies seven and the spirits four
Which my instructor frequently rehearsed;
Among the spirits quicksiver came first
And orpiment came second, then he passed
To sal ammoniac and brimstone last.
As for the seven bodies I should mention,
Here they are,if they are worth attention:
Gold for the sun and silver for the moon,
Iron for Mars and quicksilver in tune
With Mercury,lead which prefigures Saturn
And tin for Jupiter.Copper takes the pattern
Of Venus if you please! this cursed trade
Robs one of money one has made,
And all one spends on it or round about it
Will certainly be lost,I cannot doubt it.

What I would have signed is a statement describing and refuting the principle tenets of astrological belief.Such a statement would have been far more persuasive than what was actually circulated and published. But astrology, which has been with us for four thousand years or more, today seems more popular than ever.

Thank you Poyi, I like the first one since I was born with the so-called Bright Morning Star as well. My Venus is in Libra when she was rising. The second I have read before so that one doesn't surprise me, but it still has the affect of reminding me of many things.

These late eclipses in the sun and moon portend no good to us: though the wisdom of nature can
reason it thus and thus, yet nature finds itself
scourged by the sequent effects: love cools,
friendship falls off, brothers divide: in
cities, mutinies; in countries, discord; in
palaces, treason; and the bond cracked 'twixt son
and father. This villain of mine comes under the
prediction; there's son against father: the king
falls from bias of nature; there's father against
child.

"Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water. The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken. Although its light is wide and great, the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide. "Love comes in many forms. We see it in the opening of a spring flower or in the sparkling eyes of a baby. We can feel it in the glistening warmth of a summer stream. It is snowflake of truth that lifts man above reason. It is the very essence of life's meaning."
"Man can only learn from the Sun and the stars when Love is his teacher. When we realize this, it helps us to understand that love is the light in the eyes of life. It helps the seer to see for it is love that brings man the light.

here's a poem called "The Planets" by Linda Goodman
We've fought a bitter war my Twin-self and I
Lost and lonely, fallen angels exiled
from misty, long forgotton Oober galaxy of stars
Caught in Neptune's tangled web,
Wounded cruelly by the painful thrust of Mars
Tortured by the clever lies of Mercury
Shocked and torn asunder by Vulcan's distant thunder
Shattered by lightening by the sudden, awful violence of Uranus
Crushed beneath the weight of stern, unyielding Saturn....
who lengthened each hour into a day
each day into a year
each year into milleniums of waiting
Scorched by the Sun's exploding bursts of pride
as those wandering angels, stilled and helpless, deep within us cried
Still we fought on in unrelenting fury
striking blow for blow
Driven by the pounding drums of Jupiter's giant, throbbing passions
Stumbling at the precipice of the Moon's enticing madness
to fall at last in trembling fear before the ominous threat
of Pluto's tomb-like silence
Consumed by inconsolable sadness and the bleakness of despair
We bear the wounds and scars of our furious battle,
My twin-self and I
But now we walk in quiet peace
with all our scattered peices whole
together, hand in hand
full serpent-circle back into the pyramid-shaped rainbow of tomorrow's
brighter eden
Crowned by gentle Venus with the Victory of love that did not die but
survived the night of our selfless-seeking
to wait for the mornings soft forgiveness and the dawn of understanding*

OK, not exactly astrology quotes, but embedded in my soul’s path that brought me to an esoteric structure for viewing our world. Both were recorded by Galileo.
Philosophy is written in that great book which ever lies before our eyes — I mean the universe — but we cannot understand it if we do not first learn the language and grasp the symbols in which it is written. This book is written in the mathematical language, and the symbols are triangles, circles, and other geometrical figures, without whose help it is impossible to comprehend a single word of it; without which one wanders in vain through a dark labyrinth.
And another --
What has philosophy got to do with measuring anything? It's the mathematicians you have to trust, and they measure the skies like we measure a field.
My learning from these over the years --
Find your own patterns and learn to ride the waves.

Here's another non-but-yes astro concept I held on to as I grew older:
(natal chart vs outside influence)
To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

“A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with one’s individual karma. The horoscope is a challenging portrait revealing one’s unalterable past, and probable future results. The message boldly blazoned across the heavens at the moment of birth is not meant to emphasize fate – but to arouse our will to action.”

Lord Shiva and Devi Parvathi were telling Lord Murugan about time and it's uncertainty. Lord Murugan told Lord Shiva that he was aware of a way to predict the future. Lord Shiva was pleased and asked Murugan to predict Lord Shiva's future. Lord Murugan told Lord Shiva about Astrology and said that according to it, Lord Shiva would prove his supremacy over Lord Brahma. Lord Shiva was greatly impressed. But, Lord Murugan added, Lord Shiva also had the fate to roam the earth as a beggar. Lord Shiva was greatly angered by this and cursed that Astrology would only be half true from then on. But, Lord Shiva himself was unable to overcome his fate and had to roam the earth as a beggar eventually.

"Seeing our confusion, ancient sages like Parashara, Jaimini and Bhrigu bestowed the great intuitive science of astrology on humankind. In India astrology is called the "eye of the Veda" because with its help we are no longer blind to the forces of karma that drive our lives and determine the circumstances we live in, as well as shaping our attitudes and relationships. The sages themselves don't need astrology because they can see directly into the heart of reality. But astrology is like a prosthetic limb for the rest of us who are confined to far more limited states of awareness. It allows us to foresee the challenges and opportunities ahead as we pass (or fail) the curricula of the Cosmic University."
