Just a convenience, we say "Sun sign" rather than the more precise "sign in which the Sun is posited at this time"; some believe (me included) that we do have an "earth sign", so to speak; this is called the "Earth Point", and those who follow this concept (which was first proposed in the 1920"s by certain European astrologers) say that this "Earth Point" ("sign") is exactly opposite to the position of the Sun at birth.

That is correct: for those of us who use the "Earth Point" concept, this Point (which one could call the "Earth sign") is exactly opposite to the sign the Sun is in:
Example: at birth the Sun is in the sign of Scorpio: therefore the "Earth Point" is in the sign of Taurus
Example: at birth the Sun is @ 22 Gemini: Where is the "Earth Point" located? Answer: 22 Sagittarius

Note: those who use the Earth Point concept believe that this Point (the sign its in) shows a modulation of the way the potentials of the SUN SIGN will actually manifest (come to be realized) in that individual-the Sun sign = the potentials, the Earth Point ("Earth sign") the likely way those potentials will translate into actuality, particularly in the day-to-day character, actions and reactions of that person...
