This is my first post here, so hi everyone!
I really need some advice considering my job/career.
The thing is - I am just a few weeks apart from graduating linguistics. However, I am already working as a teacher for 3 years, and I presume that I will continue so. The problem is that I don't think I am completely satisfied by this, I actually got quite fed up with the job, but it's a secure one and not too difficult. I was also thinking about going to postgraduate studies, do some translating...whatever, can't realy make up my mind about this :)
Someone already told me that, based on my birth chart, teaching, or linguistics for that matter, weren't exactly the right choices for me, that I should change a career, work at home, or deal with some kind of bureaucracy , become a dentist  ,etc...
I ended up really confused. So, if anyone would be kind enough to take a look, here is my data:

24.12.1982
00:07
Backa Palanka
Yugoslavia (now Serbia)

What would be, in your opinion, my ideal occupation?

Sherry,

You have Jupiter (expansion, also teaching) in a "fate degree" (29 degrees). You also have North node (future goals) focused in the 9th house (expansion, also teaching). This suggests you are a "natural" teacher. If you want to do something else, fine...but your teaching abilities are apparent in your chart.

Teacherly,

Tim

Hi Sherry,

From the natal chart, I don't really see much 'teaching' in the career area.

I have to disagree with that assessment. You do have Jupiter on the 3rd cusp and Gemini on the 9th cusp, yes, but, unless the 3rd, 9th or Mercury has some connection with the 10th, those areas would not be significant in the career.

Incidentally, I also don't think Teaching comes under the 9th house, which has more of a focus on higher knowledge and intellectuality per se, rather than on the delivery or dissemination of knowledge, which seems to me to be more of the 3rd or 6th house areas.

Actually, I'm inclined to think that Virgo or 6th house is more closely linked to teaching, and writing - the attention to detail and exactness with words. In your chart, both 3rd and 6th ruler is Jupiter - it is cadent, and therefore, weak.

Also, none of the 'skills' planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) rule or are in 3rd or 6th houses. So these are not your strong areas or where your talents lie.

There IS a 9th house POF. So your gains has some connection to higher learning, colleges, languages, among other things, but not necessarily in the career, a 10th house matter. Its dispositor is the Moon, but this just gives it its flavour or style. For an Arabic part, the house it is in is more important than any house its dispositor rules.

Linguistics would be a 9th house area. But 9th ruler, Mercury, although angular, is in the 'private' 4th of Home / Family, and makes only a conjunction with Venus, herself receiving no benefic aspects - only a square from 10th ruler, Moon.

You also have Sag on 3rd cusp. You probably like linguistics and find it interesting to study, but it doesn't seem that it will be significant in your career.

Neither do I see 'bureaucracy'. Sun in Capricorn? 3 planets in Capricorn? Saturn in 2nd? Except for Saturn's trine from the Money area, none of them has a positive connection to MC or 10th house.

The Midheaven is Cancer - that's the first big clue. Where the MC ruler is, and its conditions and aspects, will give a large part of the rest of the career picture.

I think your career will be made up of the following factors, in descending order of importance.

You will be drawn to Cancer type, Moon-ruled careers. Your career will involve one or more of the following: Water, the Sea, Large Rivers, Ships, Cruises, Fishing Industry, Seamen, Wineries, Breweries, Spas, the Public, Restaurants, Mothers, Women.

Your MC ruler, the Moon is angular and strong. Your career will generally go well in your life, and you will have success in it. You will receive opportunities beneficial to you throughout your life. However, there will be a changeable or seasonal quality about it - either you will change careers a few times, or the work you do is of a seasonal nature.

The Moon is in Aries. You are active, dynamic and want to lead. There may also be elements of the following in your career: Image, the Body, Public Relations, Advertising, Sales, Agents, Sports, Fitness, Machinery, Surgery, Metal Tools.

Your Moon is on the 7th cusp. It is disposited by Mars, 7th ruler, and sextiled by it. Partnerships, joint ventures and collaborations of all kinds will be productive, and will play a key factor in your career success. You may even be doing work connected to Diplomacy, Negotiating, the Public, Marriages, Partnerships, Go-betweens, Contracts, Disputes.

Just making some wild guesses here! Don't take this too seriously. ;) You can make your own list of suitable careers, by combining the keywords.
Moon (Sea) + Aries (Sports) + 7th (Couples) + 5th (Leisure) = Club Med recreational director?
Moon (Water, Public) + Aries (Image, Body) = Marketing manager of a spa resort?
Moon (Sea, Women) + Aries (Image, Metal Tools) = Salon manager on a cruise ship?

Mars also rules the 2nd house - lucky you! Money will be easy to come by in your career. You may not end up a millionaire (Mars is succedent), but you will be quite comfortable, especially in later years. Moreover, Mars is in mutual reception with Saturn in your 2nd, and both are in fixed signs. - good earning power and ability to save. Though there may be a touch of laziness. And Saturn, one of your Money planets, trines the MC, POF and NNode - a sign of a good relationship between your career and your income.

The POF is in 9th, near the MC and conjunct NNode. Your treasure and gains will be of 9th house nature: Higher Learning, Colleges, Religion, Law, Publishing, Books, Foreign People and Places, Travel.

Lastly, let's look at the other planets aspecting the Moon.

The sextile from Mars, ruler of 7th and 2nd, has been explained. It being on the cusp of the 5th house of Creativity / Pleasures / Children, means that this area may contribute positively to your career in some way.

There are 2 trines from Jupiter (Expansion, Largeness) and Uranus (Technology, Science) on the cusp of the 3rd house. They rule and co-rule the 3rd and 6th, and 5th houses. There IS positive 3rd and 6th house input. However, it's probably in a minor or supporting way. 3rd house areas are Communications, Speaking, Movement, Transportation, Schools, Trading, Retailing, Neighbourhoods, Siblings. 6th house is Health, Healing, Hotels, Hospitality, Housekeeping, Secretarial Work, Accountancy, Servants, Subordinates, Small Animals.

There are 2 squares from cadent Neptune (weak, separating), cadent Sun (weak) in the 3rd house. Neptune co-rules 6th, and Sun rules 11th of Hopes / Friends / Benefits (Job Perks). There will be problems coming from all these 3 houses.

And 1 square comes from angular Venus (medium and applying) in the 4th house - Homes, Family, Parents, Real Estate, Houses, Land, Farms. Your family or a domestic problem may be giving you obstacles. Venus rules the Ascendant and 8th; there will also be stressful factors coming from your Personality, i.e. the way you interface with others, and from Other Money, such as Partner's Finances, Investments, Taxes, Insurance, Inheritances, Large Corporations.

(Your 12th ruler is also in 4th, so your Losses, Sacrifices and Secret Enemies will come from there).

Look at it this way: To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Just be extra careful in the problem areas.

The progressed Moon will return to its original position and square the Sun and Neptune in about 2 1/2 years time. Around April 2009, you may have a career crisis and will go through a difficult period.

Then in about 4 years' time, on your Saturn Return, there will be another bad patch, this time also involving your finances, home and family.

And this is just an observation. Your Asc ruler, Venus (planet of beauty) is conjunct SNode (losses) and Mercury (school), and squares both Asc (personal image) and Moon (career). That kind of sums up your avatar "Beauty School Dropout", which I think is a charming nickname! :p

Best of luck for your future!

Wow, thank you so much. This was very detailed and insightful! It's true that linguistics is more of an area I was interested in learning about, than making a career out of it. There are some ideas I never thought of before - I'll be sure to look into some of these options. Best of luck to you too!
And wilsontc, thank you also for replying!
