View Full Version : Water on the Brain

I was told as a child that, when I was born, I had "water on the brain", and the doctor's feared I would be mentally retarded. I assume I had a very mild case, or possibly the doctors mis-diagnosed me at first with it. It's just a faint memory I have of being told that by my mother when I was small. She had a friend with a daughter my age who was mentally retarded. When I was in grade school, she told me that this was why the girl was mentally retarded, and then told me that they thought the same thing was going to happen to me.
I was reading on the net today, and something triggered this memory. The thought came to me that my mother was very fearful of this happening, and somehow that I "absorbed" her fears, and tried to "prove" that I wasn't mentally retarded by overcompensating in the intellectual department. I have realized for a long time that I have a deep fear of people thinking I'm stupid and incompetent. Even though I've worked for years on inner healing in this area, I've never really been able to get to the root of it. Hence this question......
I have uploaded a chart for this question: "Are my mother's fears driving me subconsciously to prove that I'm not mentally retarded?"
Also, if anyone would want to check my natal chart for evidence of this. Could this be part of my Mercury retrograde in Sag in the 12th, I wonder? (Natal chart link is in my signature)

OR Click in the upper left hand corner - look for orange ball with blue arrows in lower right hand corner of chart - click on the orange ball.) _

Bumping it up. It got lost in the shuffle quickly.

I never did get any replies on this, and I still keep wondering about it.
Any takers yet?

It's interesting that Pisces is late on the ASC and right on top of Aries(water on cranium).
I do not think you need to erect an horary for this to validate whether your fears passed from mom is affecting you. The horary chart seems nearing a late degree so you must have your own defined answer to this fear.
Your natal Mercury in 12th house gives imprisonment of the intellect, you've hid this fear from others, but you seem to know much more than other people as well. You've driven yourself to the nth degree to make up for any mental lack, so you've collected other wisdom and knowledge along the way. Do you think you are a mentally retarded person?
I think you have gone through enough in this labyrinth to know you may have trouble in some mental activities (there are stressful aspects in your mercury), but you're not mentally retarded. Moon in Aquarius may even enhance the brilliance, give an erractic inner life. The misconstrued malnourishment we've received from our mothers should not hold us anymore longer.
Also, I would not be surprised if you were a mental psychologist or have an interest in psychology.

SS,
Thanks for taking the time to answer this for me. I sorta kinda know, but was looking for greater understanding. I also like to learn how things work with horary, as I'm not able to actually study it at this point in time. I can kind of get a little familiar with it.
I hadn't really thought about it until this question, but SOMETHING has been driving me all of my life to accumulate knowledge and increase my intellect. I started reading when I was two, and it snowballed from there. I had never thought about it in relation to what my mother told me about water on the brain until here recently. I was wondering if the chart would reveal any information. It is interseting about the Pisces ac on top of Aries. Moon in Aries in my first house, too - stuff coming from my Mom's head, and not mine. Come to think of it my mother always seemed to be touchy about people thinking she was dumb because of her rural country background, so I guess the thought of having a mentally retarded daughter just put her over the top.
No, I don't consciously think I'm mentally retarded, but something seems to have been driving me to prove my intelligence. I guess a lot of my fear is that I tend to think waay outside the box. I'm definitely not a traditionalist. I didn't get any support for that from my family. They were all "in the box" thinkers.
And, yes, I do have a great interest in psychology. I have studied it for years, and the majority of my posts on this forum are from that perspective.
Thanks again for your thoughts.

Water on the brain would involve Neptune and Mars and 1st house probably. You dont have any bad aspects there. I see that your Mercury in Sag in 12th house is badly aspected denoting exaggerated fears of mental incapacity. I imagine you have progressed more with your intellect in compensation for what you feel your mother expected, than if otherwise so. Your Moon is well aspected in Aquarius which means an unconventional perhaps even brilliant mother and she may be involved with humanitarian causes, inventions, science and even astrology or astronomy. This you can pick up from her as the Moon is our hereditary traits as well as domestic conditioning. Does she march to the beat of a different drum? I am sure that you do.

I see there are comments citing just one aspect and defining people as great astrologers etc. Mercury square Pluto for instance will manifest in hundreds of different ways in natal charts and we must be wary of generalisations. SOme for instance with Mercury square Pluto wil have thoughts of death, manipulation, obsession and revenge while others will use the energies to transform and heal themselves as well as others.

Freedom lover, you have really posed an interesting question. since i know nothing about horary.i would just like to point out one thing which does not seem to enter your auto-analysis of natal chart. when looking at your chart, the most striking point for me is the T-square Mercury/Uranus. Saturn with Mecurty at apex in the 12 in Sag/Uranus oppo. Satune. And Mercury retrograde. since i personally have a similar T-square, I finished to be convinced of the "mirror point effect" of the T-square apex. have you ever thought that just because your Mercury retrogrades and in his fall, (knowing there is nothing to do with physical handicap indication of this position), that your Mercury fonctions in a "mirrored way"? the mirror point of your Mercury is at 17 Gemini and in your 6th, both at Mercury's home sign and home house, and if you look more into the fixed stars, you might probably find a serial of fixed stars which indicates great intellectual abilities like Capella around there. For me, when looking at your Mercury, I am rather convinced that you have outstanding intellectual abilities. but the point is, when retrograde, a planet does not seem to be so at ease with itself. Rober Hand has Mercury in Sagitarrius. Bernadette Brandy has her Mercury in Pisces, but you see they are the great astrologers.
:)
Jag,
Thanks for your comments. I'm not really sure I understand what you mean about the "mirror-point effect". I've never heard that term before. The only thing I can tell you is that I feel like something has a hold of my mind is trying to do my thinking for me. It is a never-ending battle to cut through this fog. It feels like mind control or something. I don't have access to any fixed star computer programs, except AstroDienst, and it just uses the usual - Algol, Spica, etc. I would be very interested to know if there are any fixed stars around these points, as it might lend some insight into the problem. Personally, I think I do have good intellectual abilities, but I won't really be able to used them properly until this "clamp" comes off of my mind. I sense that it has something to do with criticism, and thinking that my ideas, thoughts are always wrong. I wonder if the 2nd/8th house oppositions could be playing into this?
Claire19,
Thanks as well for your thoughts. No, I knew I didn't actually have water on the brain. Mom just thought I did for a while until a diagnosis was made. I was wondering if the words she spoke, the fears she projected were absorbed by me, especially since I am an empath. As to my mother, she was very rebellious in a way - very feminist, women's rights type, although she was never an activist. She hated men. Other than that she was very traditional and money/career oriented. She always accused me of "having my head in the clouds".
