Lots say "Hi" so I thought I'd be different. :-) Khaire is ancient Greek for "Joy to you" (e.g., "hello").

I began studying astrology in the early '90s as part of a larger study into ancient astrological techniques (e.g., Greek and Roman). I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I've read several books on it (both familiar and not so, and yes, I've also looked into Hand's project on ancient astrology as well).

In any case, like many academics, I was skeptical, but I have a policy of not dismissing anything just because it "shouldn't" make sense, scientifically. After all, Aristotle was convinced the earth was at the center of the universe and everything revolved around in little spheres. :-) The first tenant of any good historian is LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE, then reach a conclusion.

The evidence, after I studied it, was that astrology actually worked, whatever the astronomers would say. We may not yet understand exactly why, but I couldn't dismiss it as a con or hoax (although like anything, it CAN involve that). I don't practice astrology formally, but I have been looking at charts for between 15-20 years now, and I have a knack for natal astrology, although I have a harder time with horary and other predictive types. I consider it a life-long study. I was involved with a fairly active astrology board 15 years ago, where I learned a lot, but then that died off and I've been dabbling alone for some time since. I've looked now and then online, but many of the boards seemed somewhat sporadic. This one looks more active, so I look forward to learning from the rest of you, and sharing a little of what I've learned although I don't pretend to be any expert!

P.S. For snorts and giggles, I can offer up what I believe to be the chart of Alexander the Great. I'm not entirely certain of rising sign, but I'm pretty sure of the date. One of the advantages of being a professional historian is access to nit-picky information and the birthday popularly given for him is WRONG. It's July 19th, not 20th, 356 BCE because the Greeks used lunar calendars and although the 6th of Loos is *usually* July 20th, in that particular year, it fell a day earlier. *grin*

Hey Kay and welcome to the forum. Great introductory post!

I haven't studied astrology anywhere near to the length of time that you have, instead only reading Linda Goodmans Sun Signs in my teenage years. I had a brief natal reading done during September 2009, and realised soon afterwards that I wanted to learn astrology myself. Interestingly, I had tr Rx Mercury-Sun-Saturn conjunct Ascendant / Pluto the day I joined the Forum.

So dabble alone no more... enjoy your stay :)
