View Full Version : Muscial trends and astrology
I am still on my music bent and have been reminiscing about the early 80's a lot. I was a young child then but have a very clear memory of when guys kind of looked like girls, where everyone wore pink and everyone had big boofy hairstyles/mullets etc.
I haven't gone and looked at charts for this era or another but could someone for example be able to pick up what transits etc would have created a musical style/trend for a particular time? We know it can be used for say political/social trends (eg breakdown of relationships - pluto in libra, AIDS - pluto in sco)
For example, what transits can be seen for:
(1) New Romantic movement in the early 80's?
(2) Grunge in the early 90's?
(3) Punk and Disco - late 70's
(4) Glam rock - early 70's
I guess this can be extended to fashion that followed these movements or for fashion in itself, again any trends that you pick up would be great!
Any discussion is very welcome!

I am really curious as to what transits were occurring when rock'n'roll was born in the 50's. It was soooo rejected by the older generation at the time, but has surely developed into something with a life of its own that has influenced the world - for good or bad.
I don't have ready access to tables of transits and when and such... I think I could match some things up if I did.....:(
But I guess the outer planets are responsible, since it is a "big picture", societal thing?
Yes, it would have to be the outer generational planets having some effect here.
Yes and the 50's, was thinking of it but didn't add it in.
In 1956, neptune was teetering between Lib-Sco in retrograde; saturn in scorpio/sag, again anarectic; uranus - can/leo; pluto in leo --> All this must have created the rock n roll phenomenon, esp pluto and uranus - being in their detriment/fall (I have to check this out exactly) + anarectic planets + at some points (esp early in 1956), a conj between ura and pluto. Explains also the very smart and glittery fashions if you know what I mean
Say in 1992, for grunge - sat - aqu, ura - cap, nep - cap, pluto - sco - the very earthy tones to it, plain and no fuss and practical (think of 3 chords, 3 band members etc) but at yet very penetrating to the core. Fashion was the same as well, no fuss, practical.
Say in 1981 for new Romantics - sat - libra, uran - sco, nep -sag, pluto - libra
Focus on "beauty", I have heard that lib rules homosexuality, so this is what the image is kind of created here with new romantics in some way. Also spirituality in new philosophies.

and what about the earthy songs of the hippie era? I'm assuming heavy Aquarius influence? maybe earth signs as well? Think about all the spiritually laced songs of the late 60's.... The Age of Aquarius and Crystal Blue Persuasion come to mind right away, but there were others, and it coincided with the "Earth" movement.
Forgot transits of these times:
1981 - anarectic uranus at times, neptune sextile pluto - mistiness; every planet experiences retro
1992 - conj nep and uran; again a lot of retro
(but every year as a bit of retro always).
Ok, lets just say the hippy era is about 1968:
Sat - aries, ura - again an anarectic at times (part retro at times), vir/lib; nep - sco (part retro) , pluto - virg (part retro); aspects - at times, nep sex pluto; ura conj nep
Also they say thats when the major turning happened, I don't know what you call it but when the age changes. The world was in the age of pisces for the last 2000 years and now in Aqu for the next 2000 years; thats why they sing "its the dawning of the age of Aquarius"
Seems an anarectic uranus and change of uranus' sign more importantly has some impact for the more explosive musical changes (rock n roll, hippy, new romantic)
Likwise, Disco and there was a change in Ura from lib --> sco in 1975

Interesting :)
In that case you could also get an impression of someone's musical tastes and talents when reading a natal chart, isn't it?
