I just finished reading some descriptions about the second house on the DK foundation site that Astro50 linked to in another post. My second house is in Virgo with the sun, venus (conj sun), and mercury. According to the site and other reading, this placement "gives an outlook on life which is almost exclusively materialistic", and "it may well be the case that a person with an emphasised Second House can see nothing beyond or above the material plane." But this doesn't seem true at all...yes of course I worry about money when I have none, but that's far from the top on my list of concerns in life, and I don't consider myself overly materialistic at all. The combination of Virgo/2nd house/Sun conj venus/mercury makes me sound like a real tightwad, doesn't it? Any particular reason this should ring so untrue?

Also, Mars in the first house is supposed to make for a "person [who] projects himself forcefully and usually with little regard for others." (Again from DK foundation.) That's not true!! I'm actually pretty reserved. And very confused...

Hey MagicScottish,

Nice double stellium you have there.

Virgo represents prudence, not stinginess. It's just part of the Earth Sign combination. You're practical, tactical, and sharp.

This could manifest, if left unchecked, as excessive frugalness, yes, but only because other people may find you to be cheap.

The second house represents "values of the self." You value that which Virgo represents, and thus, could be very generous, just under Virgo terms. Sometimes that can be a bit ahem "stingy," but you also have the capacity to rewards others in a specific way, doting in a precise way. You do the same for yourself, as the second house represents the self-values.

With so many squares from Sagittarius, you're probably conflicted between your physical demands and needs (2nd house Virgo) which you would like to carry out in a structured, routine way, and the openness and expansiveness of Sagittarius. All the more confusing because Saturn is in Sag making only squares, so it's almost like this "openness" can limit you. You have to learn to pick and choose. See yourself as a person of specifics and high demands, but approach every situation with an open-mind. (Sagittarius influence)

Mars is in the first house, but barely, more like in the second. It's just personal drive. I have Mars in the first house, close to the ascendant. It makes me a bit inconsiderate yes, but only when I'm tired. ;)

In this case, Mars is in Virgo (mine's in Capricorn) and so the drive is to materialize things.

You just sound smart to me.

Mod.

Like most newcomers you have used the default house system on astro--
You have calculated your chart using the default on astro.com of placidus and I use Equal House system and am a modern astrologer. Lots of people that come into Astrology get their free charts calculated at www.astro.com (http://www.astro.com/) and the default ‘house system’ used is Placidus and think that’s just the norm and all that there is……..BUT that is just the tip of the iceberg. You can change the default on astro.com in Extended Chart selection to Equal house and a few more.

Throughout the forums but mainly in natal astrology there are two main branches Placidus (unequal size houses) v Equal House (whereby each house is same size) but lots more……. For more information on these go here.

It's only with study and research will you be able to assess where your planets are deposited and in which houses... thus see which 'glove fits'

So your second house cusp would be 16' putting your stellium in late first house, BUT venus is conj 2nd house cusp (within 5' going anti clockwise) and is considered more effective in next house along --

Now second house is also about - personal beliefs and values, self esteem issues, how you earn your money and spend it. Venus in Virgo in it's detriment, not well placed by sign but accidentially dignified in Taurus' house.

So Sun your chart ruler placed in late first, I bet you come accross as more of Aries direct and to the point kinda guy, who is extremely analytical, loves paying attention to details and being of service in practical way.

You have a nice kite configuration going on here.

Your pluto is a singleton ie; only planet in water and your chart lacks this element and air to as no planets in air either--- so, you are all earth and fire (just like me ) so anything practical wants doing your the man...

Your saturn is challenging all your personal planets by square aspect.

lastly, pluto conj IC/home roots suggests at least one very domineering controlling parent

"Jupiter in Opposition to Pluto
It may be difficult for you to find a life philosophy that offers you the answers that you seek. You have penetrating insight into such matters and if you came from a traditional orthodox religious background, you will almost certainly go through one or more major overhauls in your belief system.
You may be someone who feels compelled to take the all or nothing approach to life at times."
http://www.skyviewzone.com/astrology/aspectsjupiter.htm#najuasppl
"The opposition of Jupiter and Pluto shows questioning of social ideology. You challenge dogma by asserting your own views, which may often be out of step with those of society. Autocratic attitudes and a lack of humility can cause a loss of popularity. This is a powerful placement for Jupiter, the planet associated with religious and philosophic issues. You may have much to offer in correcting social injustices."
