View Full Version : Intermediate Astrology - Advancing Our Knowledge

Hi everyone,
I've been wondering for a while could/should I do this kind of a thread. I'm
your average intermediate astrologer who'd like to take my knowledge one
step further. I was hoping that for anyone else in the same boat, we could
put down points of interest and either ask for advice or directions for further reading. Since we know that astrology books exist, I was hoping that sources could be generally not much further that the net.
OK well let's give it a go...things I'd like to 'fix' or 'advance';
- Getting further into the mindset/life of a person after assessing planets
in signs, houses and aspects.
- Exploring better the different layers/levels of interpretation
- Simple tips on avoiding clichés or common mistakes in interpretation
- Taking a more advanced approach to understanding dignity (not the point
scoring tables) e.g. a planet in dignity but afflicted by aspect or vice versa.
Where exactly does that planet stand? How do we view the mixed status?
If I think of more, I'll drop them down.

Lol...I've no intention of defining point A and point B...rather, just to make this a place where things which have been bugging you can be resolved! :w00t:
After all, quite a lot of the little things which bug you or confuse you don't often merit a new full thread...so. Searching for the 'cookbooks' is only going
to require FURTHER analysis anyway, so this really is the perfect place I feel. Also, I can imagine that people will be looking for different levels and speeds of learning, and this is a drop in, talk about an issue, learn, and off you go place, I wasn't aiming for a formal classroom
So one of the things I'm hoping someone might be able to clear up for me is my natal Venus. I'll attach my chart below. She has essential dignity in Pisces, but has two difficult aspects;
Virgo Moon opposition Venus (Moon is the ruler of the AC)
Venus square Sagg Saturn (Saturn is the ruler of the 7th...)
I'm not entirely sure how to view this planet. She also has a wide
trine with Pluto, but I'm not sure that's strong enough, certainly
no saving grace. Also, for any Hellenistic followers, she's a nocturnal
planet above the horizon, so she isn't comfortable there. Does this
weaken her power or even make her...unhelpful?
If anyone can point me in the right direction, please do!

Jovey,
I want to respond to this thread, but I want to speak only to the issues regarding the aspects. I have something similar to this going on in my chart, with a Moon in Capricorn (detriment) conjunct a Mars in Capricorn (exalted). Surely this combination changes the energies of the detrimented Moon and puts a lot of reliance onto the Mars to be the "strong one."
This, however, is going off topic and I don't want to do that, since you're approaching this discussion from a lot of different areas, and not just asking about aspects. Let me know what you think.
As an aside, I wouldn't count the trine from Pluto, but she may still be sensitive to some plutonic-venusian stuff.

Hey Mod,
no you're not going off topic, ask away! That's exactly what I'm talking about, those little questions which bug us which we might not want to start a whole new thread about.
I haven't come across that situation before, and it's an excellent example...I exalted Mars conjunct Moon in detriment. The only questions I can think about to try and determine that would be their aspects and the house placement? If the Moon receives some help...or the Mars is seriously afflicted, I'd expect that would turn the tables. And Mars can take quite a hit because he's in essential dignity, can't he?

Hey Jove,
Cool beans!
Ok so, besides this conjunction, Mars receives no other harsh aspects, a trine from Venus and a BQ from MC and Pluto. In the first house with a wide-ish conjunction from the ASC. The only thing is that the dude is in retrograde, but went stationary last year and will go direct soon. :excited:
Moon is opposed Sun, ick, but in a tight sextile to Jupiter. Nice.
So all and all, my Capricorn Moon is being buffered and coddled into making nice-nice. I sometimes imagine this hardworking businesswoman being visited by a wise, kind, sage in her dreams (Jupiter in Pisces) who promises her if she is kinder to herself she will find love, and then, after taking off work early and going shopping, is swept off her feet by the parking ticketer whom she argues over a ticket with (Mars in Capricorn) who loves her powerful ways. (Ok maybe that's just MY fantasy... but these ARE my aspects...teehee).
As for the aspects in your friend's chart:
I would interpret the Sag and Virgo squares as limits to a Venus in Pisces. Perhaps she needs these limits, since Pisces isn't exactly about boundaries, and being a "love 'em all type," isn't always a safe bet. These aspects also point to further refinement of the talents associated with Venus in Pisces, and the pressure to perfect them. Pisces isn't exactly hard-working, so without these aspects she might take her talents for granted. She might never be pleased with her own work, and thus might need a partner (what better to be indicated by Venus), to open her up, or convince her. This partner will in some way embody and cater to the opposition and square from her moon and saturn, ended up as a source she can trust, but also showing her that she can trust herself.
not sure here... just thinking... more later.

I get it now, BJ.....It's a "can anyone point me in the right direction on this?" thread...where we can all seek guidance on whatever is astrologically bugging us, regardless of our "student level"......(and perhaps define the specific point clearly at that time, as with your "venus issue").
[I tried that search, and it produced several links...including the following :-

Whoops, I must have been a bit misty with my original explanation lol. And crucially, I'm hoping anyone else with little bugs in their learning that they want to clear up can drop a line here (post an ad for ex.). Thanks for the link, I'm checking it out now!

Well that's good news regarding your aspects; the Moon isn't afflicted! And Mars is happy! Maybe then it won't be as difficult to decipher...even with the Sun/Moon opp, I think Luna's in a good position...I mean those tricky Sun/Moon placements are everywhere, and we're not confined to misery or horrible circumstances! (I've Sun inconjunct Moon, my sis has the opp). Is it possible then that your assertive or active energies could pose as a source of good for you, that it can help lift you emotionally? Would exercising be a useful outlet for letting the Cappy Moon steam go? I expect other astro people here who might have seen this before will have better words of wisdom!
As for the Sagg/Venus aspects...that's me! And I'm very interested in what you had to say...such clarity and vision you used there!
