basically it means that the planet's energies go inward rather than outward. The outer generational planets are often retrograde and not that important, it mercury, venus and mars,jupiter mainly.

Look up your date of birth in the above ephemeris to see when mercury goes direct. I have this and for me it went direct age 19 and I certainly came out of my shell then.
